‘Looper’ Soundtrack

Innovative. That’s the first word that springs to mind as I listen to the score for Looper. Composer Nathan Johnson didn’t exactly go for the traditional approach – and I, for one, am delighted that he didn’t. According to one interview, his stated goal was to write music evocative of Looper’s futuristic, wormhole-riddled world; a world which is, quite literally, falling apart. In pursuit of that goal, Johnson and his team got creative with their instrumentation… like, really creative. They scavenged hardware stores for plastic tubing and sheets of metal. They captured the audio of…

Wants for ‘Pirates 5’

Wants for ‘Pirates 5’
IGN Entertainment

The big question is when Pirates 5 will get underway. Last week, the website /Film reported that filming is scheduled to begin in Puerto Rico this November, with both Johnny Depp and On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall back in action. However, Moviehole soon rebutted the rumor, with their source saying a script hasn’t even been written. At the same time, that source teased the return of a major character for part 5.

Regardless of whether either of these rumors are true, we expect it’s only a matter of time before Disney officially confirms the next sequel. But what can they do to…

‘Les Misérables’ Trailer in Review

‘Les Misérables’ Trailer in Review

This upcoming tear-jerking musical adaptation of the classic is directed by Oscar winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) and scheduled for theatrical release on December 14th, 2012.

This story deserves to be revisited again and again, and this could be the right version to see again and again. With Les Misérables near release, I’m what you could call loosing my mind in anticipation. After the rapturous film that was The King’s Speech by Tom Hooper, no trailer needs to convince me to buy a ticket for opening night of Les Misérables. I’ll be there even if it kills me.

Besides…

‘Manimal’ To Get a Movie. Wait, What?!?

‘Manimal’ To Get a Movie. Wait, What?!?
IGN Entertainment

Sony Pictures Animation has just landed the movie rights to Manimal, based on the 1980s television series about a wealthy doctor with the power to transform into animals in order to fight crime.

Do studios really need to be told this is a bad idea? Seriously? I don’t know how anyone might possibly think this is a good idea.

Here’s the show opener from the 1983 show.

‘LUV’ Trailer

‘LUV’ Trailer

Well it seems today is a day for me to post about independent films.

Here’s one I came across that looks pretty interesting. Here’s the synopsis from the Apple Trailers page:

An 11-year-old boy gets a crash course in what it means to be a man when he spends a day with the uncle he idolizes in LUV, a poignant and gritty coming-of-age story featuring standout performances by Common, Danny Glover, Dennis Haysbert, Charles S. Dutton and newcomer Michael Rainey Jr. With his mother in rehab and his father out of the picture, young Woody Watson (Michael Rainey Jr.) lives with his grandmother…

‘Looper’ Behind the Scenes Featurette (with video)

‘Looper’ Behind the Scenes Featurette (with video)

If you weren’t looking forward to Looper, perhaps I can help with that. I mean, you would be crazy because who doesn’t want to see a film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis?

But just in case you weren’t looking forward to it, here’s a behind the scenes featurette. My favorite part is Joseph Gordon-Levitt saying, “Of course he gets the better of me, he’s Bruce Willis.”

It’s hard not to get my expectations up, though I typically like a film better when I don’t. But I am greatly looking forward to this one.

RoboCop Set Pictures

I’m reluctant to say that this is absolutely 100% the design for the new RoboCop, despite the fact that these pictures were snapped on the Toronto set of Jose Padilha‘s new version of the story. I say that because I’m not certain that we’re seeing Joel Kinnamanin the suit there, though it could be a stuntman in a version of the suit that Kinnaman wears.

Still, these are pics of a suit from the set of the new RoboCop, and so, combined with what we’ve seen of the new ED209, they give us some idea of what this movie is going to look like. Check out full-size shots below.

Avenger’s Tower

Avenger’s Tower
Slash Film

Is it possible that even though millions upon millions of eyeballs watched Joss Whedon‘s massive superhero blockbuster, The Avengers, every one of them missed a clue to its sequels? Spoilers follow for The Avengers but, at the end of the film, with Manhattan completely destroyed, we see Tony Stark and Pepper Potts jokingly working on a building. Then, the final shot of the movie reveals that all the letters of “STARK” fell off Stark Tower save for one: the A. A for Avengers.

If you look at a screen grab from the film, it seems like that’s exactly what Tony Stark is building at the end…

‘Transformers 4’ To Include More Robots For Toy Sales

‘Transformers 4’ To Include More Robots For Toy Sales
Slash Film

Hasbro’s reasoning is that Transformers: Dark of the Moon action figures didn’t sell well because the two previous films had also featured the same characters. That is, a kid who picked up Optimus Prime from Toys ‘R’ Us in 2007 after seeing the first Transformers movie probably wouldn’t be inspired to purchase another Optimus Prime in 2011 after seeing the third one. Therefore, Hasbro believes, introducing fresh characters to the lineup should boost toy sales.

Okay, first, TRANSFORMERS 4?!? What is wrong with the world??? I don’t want to live on this planet anymore!

But more to the…
