Chris McKay to Direct ‘The LEGO Movie’ Sequel

Chris McKay to Direct ‘The LEGO Movie’ Sequel
Mike Fleming Jr — Deadline

Warner Bros has set Chris McKay to direct its sequel to The Lego Movie, the film that opened last month and has so far turned in a worldwide gross of $361 million. McKay was animation co-director on the first film that was made under the direction of Phil Lord & Chris Miller. That duo is producing, and Michelle Morgan & Jared Stern are writing a treatment for the next installment. They are still working all this out, but this will be straight sequel, even though the studio is contemplating a spinoff film that broadens the Lego empire by focusing on the character Ninjago.

I’m sure he’ll do…

Rooney Mara to Play Tiger Lily in ‘Pan’

Rooney Mara to Play Tiger Lily in ‘Pan’
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Well, let’s cue up the controversy machine. Tiger Lily, the Native American princess of Neverland, is going to be played by someone not of Native American descent (nor from Neverland). We’re being a bit cheeky, but we’re sure this news is going to raise a few culturally-concerned eyebrows.

Rooney Mara has nabbed the part of Tiger Lily in Joe Wright’s forthcoming “Pan.”

Yeah, that’s some real controversy right there.

Nontroversy.

‘Captain America 2’ Clip — ‘Here to Ask a Favor’

‘Captain America 2’ Clip — ‘Here to Ask a Favor’

Apparently it takes a hijacking or possibly nuclear war to get Nick Fury to visit the big boss upstairs (at least I assume he’s the big boss or something). But whatever. This clip isn’t all that juicy, but… Nick Fury! Who doesn’t love Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury?

Captain America is Busting Through Walls, Doors, and Windows In This Clip

Captain America is Busting Through Walls, Doors, and Windows In This Clip

While the first Captain America film was fantastic, I think this film will be so in an entirely different way if the tone set by this clip is any indication. Much has been made about the high speed hand held format for the shooting, but I found this clip at least to be acceptable. The film is certainly going to be more gritty and modern, obviously being set in modern time this time. It looks like the Captain is learning how to put his skills to more and better uses than before for sure.

Chad’s ‘Divergent’ Trilogy Book Review

Chad’s ‘Divergent’ Trilogy Book Review
Chad Hopkins - ChadLikesMovies

Hey guys. As you should know, the film adaptation of the first book in Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy, titled Divergent (duh), is set to be released next week. The trailer alone didn’t get me interested at all even though I felt like I should be excited for what looked to be “the next Hunger Games.” In an attempt to remedy that, I read the whole trilogy this past week and loved it! For some non-spoilery thoughts on the trilogy as a whole, head on over to my site to read the full review. Here’s the general gist of it:

Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy continues to prove that the world of…

Marc Webb Didn’t Want to Reboot ‘Spider-Man’

Marc Webb Didn’t Want to Reboot ‘Spider-Man’
Jesse Giroux — JoBlo

It was the stupidest idea I had ever heard. [Sony chief] Amy Pascal brought it up to me and I thought it was crazy! But of course I was a Spider-Man fan, but more of Peter Parker. It was a tricky time. I had just finished ‘500 Days of Summer.’ I didn’t know what to do next. And those movies, which are really sacred to people, weren’t that old. They gave me a script I didn’t like. And Amy said, “You can’t turn down Spider-Man.” And she was right. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Should have went with your first instinct bud.

In the first movie I was a little too reserved with…

New ‘Devil’s Knot’ Trailer Staring Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth

New ‘Devil’s Knot’ Trailer Staring Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth

I posted the first trailer for this film in November then promptly forgot about it. But it’s back on my radar with the new trailer and I’m still interested. I admit to my shame of having no knowlege of the events that the film is based on. There seems to be an expectation that everyone in the world knows about the “well known West Memphis murder trial” where three teens were wrongly accused and imprisoned for the murder of three children. At the time it was believed to be a part of some sort of satanic ritual.

The film looks to me like it has the potential to be pretty good. We’ll find out…

‘Captain America 2’ Black Widow Featurette

‘Captain America 2’ Black Widow Featurette

It’s not much, but if you’re like me, you lap up most anything Marvel throws at you. In’s just a couple short weeks until Marvel kicks off their cinematic year and I can’t wait. At the risk of repeating myself, Captain America: The First Avenger was easily my favorite pre-Avengers Marvel film and I’m hoping that despite all the tonal and directorial differences we’ve been hearing about, Captain America can stay high on my list.

I like Steve Rogers as a character and I like Natasha Romanoff as a character. And the idea of putting the two opposites together in one film as co-stars should make…

‘Captain America 2’ Has Big Ramifications For Entire Marvel Universe

‘Captain America 2’ Has Big Ramifications For Entire Marvel Universe
Peter Sciretta — /Film

One of the biggest secrets we learned while on the set of Captain America: The Winter Soldier: is that the Captain America sequel ending will have big ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will lead directly into Avengers: Age of Ultron.

...

Later in the afternoon, Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige let the following slip:

It is smack dab between Avengers and Avengers 2. It takes place after both Thor and Iron Man. So it’s sort of the continuity of the release of the film is the continuity of the film as well. Which was sort of the case with the first…

Idris Elba Cast in Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’

Idris Elba Cast in Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’
Russ Fischer — /Film

Disney has picked up momentum in developing its version of The Jungle Book, which is set to be a live-action film with extensive CG embellishment. The project has just cast Idris Elba as Shere Khan, the tiger whose name literally means “king.” Elba has a regal bearing no matter what he’s doing, and even his voice alone should be able to command respect, and instill fear.

Now that’s some awesome casting right there.

This, by the way, is the Jon Favreau directed installment. You might recall there are two Jungle Books upcoming and this is Disney’s version.
