Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’ Trailer

Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’ Trailer

I’ve said in the past that I am just not the target demographic for this film, and that remains true. I’m not sure why we need this film or what it offers to compel me to go to the theaters to see it. In fact, this trailer makes the film look like an almost completely straight up retelling of the animated classic, without quite so much of the outlandishness — well, in some ways. The whole fairy godmother/glass slipper routine looks just as outlandish as the cartoon.

To me, it looks like this film is trying to dazzle and charm, but it’s lacking what the original cartoon had in those areas.…

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Trailer 3

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Trailer 3

I continue to hold out very little hope that in terms of the Biblical narrative this will actually be a good film. I expect it to be unfaithful to the text. But at the same time, I doubt it will be as bad as Noah was.

There’s also the fact that I really love the tone of this trailer. I love the look, I love the feel of it, I actually really love what little we see in this trailer of Bale’s performance, and Joel Edgerton looks like he’s going to knock it out of the park! There are two levels on which a film derived from a Biblical text can be judged. The first is obviously its faithfulness to…

New ‘Mortdecai’ Trailer Featuring Johnny Depp

New ‘Mortdecai’ Trailer Featuring Johnny Depp

This film looks extremely stupid, so it’s probably perfect for Johnny Depp. He certainly seems very much at home in this film. It’s slightly reminiscent of the Pink Panther franchise if you ask me.

I’m sure the film will get a few laughs, but I don’t know if it will be worth my time to go see. But, you never know, sometimes you just get in the mood for a few laughs at the movies, you know?

‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’ Trailer

‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’ Trailer

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about a third installment in this franchise. I was quite pleasantly surprised by both of the previous films, so maybe I should have had a little faith. And at the end of the day, these films are comedy gold. Throw in a bit of story and it’s all good, right?

Also there’s the fact that this will be one of Robin Williams last films.

I don’t know if this one will be as good as the previous films, but it looks like it actually has potential. Still, it does feel like their dipping back into the well one too many times. We’ll see on December 19 when it hits…

‘Tell’ Trailer

‘Tell’ Trailer

I stumbled across this little thing, and it looks at least mildly entertaining, or maybe a little more.

Here’s the synopsis:

Small-time crook Ethan Tell makes a big-time score when he and his wife succeed in pulling off a million dollar heist, while also leaving their co-conspirators with nothing. But Ethan’s luck changes when he’s caught by police, and after serving time Ethan’s determined to go straight and make an honest living. However, that plan goes awry quickly when he’s violently pursued by two corrupt detectives, his parole officer, the co-conspirators, and even his wife, who are…

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Extended Teaser Trailer

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Extended Teaser Trailer

This whole “waiting almost six months for Age of Ultron to come out” thing may get a little tedious if Marvel keeps teasing us like this. They have released an extended teaser trailer for Age of Ultron. The tone of it is the same as the first, and indeed, much of the footage, the clips, even the Ultron voice over is the same. The music is the same. But there are subtle differences throughout — new clips and footage we haven’t seen yet, and most importantly, more extended dialog from Ultron at the beginning of the trailer.

I don’t know how I’m going to survive the wait. Check it out…

First Teaser Trailer For ‘Insurgent’ — Next Installment in the ‘Divergent’ Series

First Teaser Trailer For ‘Insurgent’ — Next Installment in the ‘Divergent’ Series

Insurgent is on its way to us. The critics were fairly hard on Divergent, but I didn’t think it was so bad. It was slightly formulaic at times, but it was a solid film, quite entertaining, and despite some YA formula adherence, it had a couple of surprises up its sleeve. Ultimately I gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The film also made a fair amount of cash. Nothing crazy, but it did well on a budget to gross ratio. Ultimately it brought in $288.7 Million on a budget of $85 Million. That’s not terrible, although I’m sure the producers are hoping they can up their game on that a little with…

Final Trailer for ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies’

Final Trailer for ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies’

Peter Jackson is a great example of a talented filmmaker given to much excess who needs to be reigned in. But right now, he’s king of the hill and he can do whatever the heck he wants. And so he is. One book has become three films — and who knows where on earth this final film is going. Strange places, that’s for sure.

The first two installments of this trilogy have had wildly inconsistent visual styling and CGI work, and if this trailer is any indication, the trend of shoddy CGI, overly clean and high flash value but little substance visuals will continue. It’s quite disappointing, really.…

‘Into the Woods’ Trailer

‘Into the Woods’ Trailer

I haven’t paid too much attention to this yet, but it’s going to be coming out in less than two months so I suppose I should start. To be honest, it looks maybe a tad boring? I don’t know. You know how sometimes something catches your interest, and other times… well, not. This is more in the not category for me.

Still, I want to see the film for the cast alone. I mean, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, and Chris Pine? Sign me up, even if I have not yet been captured by any of the marketing.

There is the other thing though, it’s a musical, and I have little patience for most musicals…
