In this inaugural episode, TJ reviews Ender’s Game. He found it to be fun and enjoyed it, but also found it lacking. The pacing was off and important things were left out of the film while unimportant things were kept. But it was still a lot of fun and it is recommended. 3.5 of 5 stars.

‘Ender’s Game’ took the top spot at the box office this past week. But whether it can keep up or not in the face of competition from ‘Thor: The Dark World’ remains to be seen. ‘Agents of SHIELD’ is getting a crossover with the upcoming ‘Thor’ film a couple weeks after it comes out, which sounds like a load of fun. Bill Condon has some theories on why his film ‘The Fifth Estate’ didn’t do well. Joe Cornish is rumored to be the next director of the ‘Star Trek’ film franchise. TJ has never heard of him but would be glad of a fresh perspective on the series. ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ is tracking to open to a massive $185 Million. There’s a new 3-minute trailer for ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ that looks to be the best yet. TJ wrote his Ender’s Game review this past week. You should check that out. Jon Favreau is in talks to direct the upcoming film from Disney, ‘The Jungle Book.’ Why this film needed to be made is beyond TJ’s comprehension. Saoirse Ronan did not get the ‘Star Wars’ role she auditioned for, which is too bad, really. Blockbuster is calling it quits with it’s retail locations and plans to become a distributer only of movies. This seemed inevitable. ‘Star Wars VII’ has a release date, even though it has no title. The film is scheduled to open on December 18, 2015. And of course, find out what to see this weekend!

Samuel L. Jackson wants to know what you Americans’ problem is. Apparently sometime in the future here, you all are going to be rejecting robots as law enforcement. This is of course going to lead the creation of an abomination of a hybrid between man and machine (obviously, where else could this go?).

If one were to believe all the negative buzz during production on Thor: The Dark World, you’d assume the film is a disaster. It’s not. In fact, it’s pretty fantastic and a shining example of how things many laymen think of as huge red flags — such as reshoots and rewrites — can actually be used to drastically improve a film.

During an interview with Hypable today, Ender’s Game co-star Aramis Knight revealed a script centered on his character Bean based on the book Ender’s Shadow exists.

Ender’s Shadow by Orson Scott Card is a novel that parallels the story line of Ender’s Game but follows Bean. The character has a supporting role in Game which hit theaters last week.

Woo hoo! This weekend brings us plenty of shiny new things to see. Of course our favorite hammer wielding Norse “God” comes back to the big screen in Thor: The Dark World. About Time goes to wide release and while I think it might be a bit cheesy for me, I do think there’s something there for the right audience. The Book Thief looks really, really good. Blockbuster Video killed the mom and pop video store, and now technology has finally killed Blockbuster Video. After slowly but steadily closing down locations for the better part of a decade, the company announced Wednesday it is finally going to close the final 300 locations by early 2014, and discontinue its rental-by-mail system by the end of 2013. The brand will remain, however, offering movies digitally.

While a few indie stores will always endure, this more or less marks the official end of the video store era.
