Hold on to your hammers, Scarlett Johansson is about to shatter the comic book movie glass ceiling. After stealing scenes from Tony Stark and the rest of super men in Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson’s popular spy character Black Widow is going to get her own movie. Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige has said that the Marvel movie universe is going to change dramatically going forward.

We wanted to change the dynamic of the cinematic universe with [Captain America: The Winter Soldier]. We wanted Cap and really the entire cinematic universe to be very different [...] [Black]…

Kimberly Roots — TV Line

John Henson, puppeteer and son of Muppets creator Jim Henson, died Friday of a heart attack. He was 48.

The Jim Henson Company announced Henson’s death on its Facebook page Saturday.

In addition to serving as a board member and shareholder in the company behind The Muppets, Henson also performed as Sweetums the ogre in movies like Muppet Treasure Island and The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz and in various specials.

Well that’s just uncool news to start Monday out with.

So Much for ‘RoboCop’ — ‘The LEGO Movie’ and ‘About Last Night’ Take Two Top Spots at Box Office

So Much for ‘RoboCop’ — ‘The LEGO Movie’ and ‘About Last Night’ Take Two Top Spots at Box Office
The Playlist

When your options are a tepidly received “RoboCop” remake and a Valentine’s Day-themed romance movie that only the teenage girl die-hards seemed interested in (“Endless Love”), is it any wonder “The Lego Movie” blocked out the competition this weekend? That said, performing quite well was the “About Last Night” remake. And no, don’t chalk that one up to ’80s nostalgia—instead, see it as one more film connecting with the underserved African-American audience who are happy to come out in droves when a movie is actually geared towards them.

Well what am I supposed to say to that. And what…

Taco Tuesday

Taco Tuesday

This week, Will Smith changed his mind again on whether he’s going to be in ‘Independence Day 2’. TJ has more to say about Philip Seymour Hoffman and his big scene left to shoot on ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’. It seems like a digital recreation of the guy is in order so that the film can be finished. ‘Star Wars VII’ will be starting production in May. ‘The LEGO Movie’ was the big deal this week. It brought in a truckload of money on it’s opening weekend, and it was quite a good film. TJ wrote a review, and talked about it with Joe Darnell and Chad Hopkins on ‘The MovieByte Podcast’. And speaking of ‘The LEGO Movie’, a Fox News anchor has completely lost his mind and says the film is anti-business and anti-capitalist. What is his reasoning? Well the villain is named Lord Business. That’s some deep analysis right there. The director of R.I.P.D. will be directing the ‘Divergent’ sequel, ‘Insurgent’ which isn’t even in theaters yet. And of course, find out what to see this weekend!

AT-AT Walkers Attack at the Olympics

AT-AT Walkers Attack at the Olympics

Sometimes, something incredibly, hilariously geeky comes “across my desk” and I have no choice, I am compelled to post it. This is one such occasion.

As you may or may not know, the winter olympics are going on right now which involves a lot of high speed gliding across snow and snowing terrain. Thus, this is the perfect opportunity to insert some Imperial Walker action from The Empire Strikes Back. You might recall that they were in some snowy conditions there.

This is pretty hillarious.

Blooper Reel for ‘The Lego Movie’

Blooper Reel for ‘The Lego Movie’

Who would have thought that an animated film could have a blooper reel, eh? Well all good films have blooper reels so since this is a good movie, I reckon they thought it needed a good blooper reel.

As far as I understand, the sound bite are actual bloopers and outtakes and mess ups. The decided to get creative and animate the characters around it. Hilarity ensues.

Dead or Alive, You’re Seeing a Movie! — What to See This Weekend

Dead or Alive, You’re Seeing a Movie! — What to See This Weekend

I had hoped to have seen the original RoboCop by the time I wrote this article this weekend so I could have a better idea of what I was in for and a more well informed opinion. Alas, between Netflix playing stupid with the disk, and it not being available for instant watch, that hasn’t happened. It is available for digital rental on Amazon, so I reckon I’ll do that (probably tonight) before I see the remake this weekend at the box office.

RoboCop — PG-13

I can’t say I’m particularly excited about this film. I was not allowed to watch the original given that it came out when I was five…

‘R.I.P.D’ Director to Helm ‘Divergent’ Sequel ‘Insurgent’

‘R.I.P.D’ Director to Helm ‘Divergent’ Sequel ‘Insurgent’
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Summit are really confident that everyone is going to see their big, juicy YA adaptation “Divergent” next month. Or they’re at least hoping that their confidence and premature announcement that a sequel is coming will encourage audiences to a buy a ticket. Either way, they’re making plans so that they’re prepared when “Divergent” becomes an (inevitable?) hit film. And they are pinning their hopes on the guy who directed “R.I.P.D.” to keep the franchise moving.

Yep, Robert Schwentke has bounced back from directing one of 2013’s biggest financial bombs and critical failures to get the gig…

Kevin Feige Talks about Black Widow’s Role in ‘The Avengers 2’

Kevin Feige Talks about Black Widow’s Role in ‘The Avengers 2’
ComicBookMovie.com

“We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March,” said Feige in the latest issue of Total Film mag’. ”[Black] Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”

“We wanted to change the dynamic of the cinematic universe with this film,” said Feige of Captain America: The Winter Soldier“We wanted Cap and really the entire cinematic universe to be very different at the end of…
