Film Music Reporter

Brian Tyler has officially signed on to score Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron.

...

Alan Silvestri scored the first installment in the series. Tyler had been rumored to score the sequel for several months after he was hired for both Marvel features in 2013, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. The composer also composed the music for the TV special Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe, which premiered on ABC last night. Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently in production and will be released on May 1, 2015 by Walt Disney Pictures.

Brian Tyler is a fine composer, but it makes me…

‘Noah’ Featurette

‘Noah’ Featurette

I’m still concerned about this film from a Biblical perspective as a Christian, but I really like what I’m seeing in this featurette. Sure they’re going to be inserting drama and reading things into the story that may or may not have happened, but what can you expect. And to a certain extent, some of that is fine.

However, I am concerned also on the level that the makers of this film are pretty much all atheists as far as I know. Why should I trust atheists to make a film about a Biblical story? But time will tell. In the meantime, check out this cool featurette about the ark itself.

Two roads diverged in the forest, but Animal ate one — What To see This Weekend

Two roads diverged in the forest, but Animal ate one — What To see This Weekend

It’s that time of the week again. It’s time to decide what you want to see in the theaters this weekend. I shall talk about two new films, one of which I am quite certain will be good. The other one, well, we’ll have to see. I kind of want it to be good, but I kind of don’t think it will be any good.

New This Weekend

Muppets Most Wanted — PG

I’ve been spending some time getting caught up in Muppet world. I know I’ve seen various Muppet shows and movies throughout my life, but I really only remember The Muppet Babies on Saturday mornings. So I’ve gone back and watched several movies, and…

‘Pirates 5’ Has Not Been Given a Green Light

‘Pirates 5’ Has Not Been Given a Green Light
Germain Lussier – /Film

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is currently in limbo, thanks to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Iger did a conference call on Tuesday and made it rain with news. He mentioned The Incredibles 2Star Wars Episode VII, and also mentioned that, despite directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg  being attached, the studio has yet to green light the long-in-development fifth film in the mega-blockbuster franchise starring Johnny Depp.

And some people say there is no God.

The Muppets Sorted Into Hogwarts Houses

The Muppets Sorted Into Hogwarts Houses
Tor.com

As we might have mentioned before, our favorite office game is to sort characters into Hogwarts Houses. We are not unique in this of course—a good portion of fandom has Sorting Disease—but we like bringing the party to you, as it were.

And with Muppets Most Wanted coming out, it seemed only natural to get the crew sorted! Join us while we play the music and light the lights!

This is a lot of fun!

The Muppets Audition For the Part of Yoda

The Muppets Audition For the Part of Yoda

This is so great. This appears to be from 1999 when a series of interstitials were run on the Odessy Channel and this would be one of those. With the new Muppet film coming out this weekend, it seemed appropriate to post today.

Make sure to catch all the in jokes about voice and appearance and whatnot. Have fun!

Peter Parker Does Webdesign in The Final ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer

Peter Parker Does Webdesign in The Final ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer

As I have discussed before at length, I am simply the wrong audience for this film. And this trailer did not help me get excited about it. But if the last film was your thing, and you’ve been enjoying the trailers up until this point, you’re surely going to love this. For my part, it just feels like they put all the Spider-Man elements from the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films into a bag, shook it up, and pulled a few out for this film.

Eh, whatever. It’s a trailer, and you might want to watch it.

You’ll be able to see the film in theaters on May 2nd.

New ‘Godzilla’ Trailer

New ‘Godzilla’ Trailer

I’ve never seen any incarnation of Godzilla, but from what I can tell, they have previously all been cheesy, at the very least in the looks and visual effects department. If this trailer is to be believed that is about to change. I think the technology has advanced sufficiently to let us make a good Godzilla film.

Look forward to this film on May 16.

A Bit of ‘Star Wars VII’ News

A Bit of ‘Star Wars VII’ News
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

The biggest longterm investment by the Mouse House is in Lucasfilm and the “Star Wars” franchise, and Iger provided an update on what’s coming in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII,” and it’s a bit of old and new mixed together. Most notably, Iger revealed that the sequel will be set 30 years after “Star Wars: Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi” and that cast wise, it will feature “very familiar faces returning” who will join a “trio of new leads.”

See, I said “a bit” in the headline. Right now, looking for Star Wars VII news that’s new can feel a bit like trying to find water in a desert…
