Lego ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Short by Brotherhood Workshop

Lego ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Short by Brotherhood Workshop

I loved Guardians of the Galaxy, but if I were nitpicking, I would point out that cassette tapes and cassette players rarely worked in a flawless enough way to keep a tape in good shape for 30 some years. In fact, in the real world, Peter Quill’s cassette tape would have died long ago just from normal magnetic and physical deterioration of the media. Then there’s the fact that after a tape player eats a tape enough times, it either breaks or becomes completely unplayable in some fashion. Then there’s the sound quality. I know we used to listen to those (roughly) 20KHz tapes all the time back…

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Brings in the Big Bucks

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Brings in the Big Bucks
Rodrigo Perez — The Playlist

Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” was number one for the fourth weekend (though not consecutively) and could only take it $10.7 million. That’s a pretty low figure for the #1 slot, but indicative of the slow weekend, not the movie. And besides, everything’s coming up roses for Marvel’s movie. The picture has now made $294.5 million domestically, which means that coveted $300 million mark will be surpassed either next weekend or the one afterwards. The movie has grossed $586 million worldwide in six weeks of release and has hit a lot of milestones this weekend.

There will come a time when…

‘Starring Adam West’ Trailer

‘Starring Adam West’ Trailer

When you think of Adam West, what’s the first thing you think of? That cheesy, cheesy Batman series from the 60s of course. For many, many of the middle aged to older folks in our culture, Adam West is Batman (for better or worse). We can argue about who has played the role best over the years, but there is no doubt that the name of Adam West is recognizable, and in many ways, iconic.

That’s why I’m interested in seeing this film.

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Featurette

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Featurette

I can’t decide whether I’m looking forward to this film or not. But I am keeping an eye on it in any event. It certainly looks grand and epic. Obviously the director of Gladiator directing this picture is interesting in theory. But I also know I will be extremely hard to please with a Biblical film. As with other Biblicaly based films, I will attempt to judge it on two levels, 1). is it a good film — does it tell a good story and is it fun and engaging? and 2). how does it measure up to the Biblical tale?

Here’s a featurette where Mr. Scott talks about the film a little and we get to see…

Trailers For TNG Remastered Season 7, and ‘All Good Things’ Series Finale

Trailers For TNG Remastered Season 7, and ‘All Good Things’ Series Finale

It’s that time again: time for me to write up a post about the latest addition to Star Trek remastered. But this time, it’s the final season of my favorite overall Star Trek series. The remastering of The Next Generation will now be complete. And as usual, there will also be a stand-alone release. It became quite a common thing to have two parters throughout TNG’s run, and often, they make great feature length “films”. I really loved the trend for two parters — it foreshadowed what was to come in DS9, with full season and even show arcs. While we (regrettably) never got season arcs with TNG,…

Trailer for Season 2 of ‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’ — Returns September 23

Trailer for Season 2 of ‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’ — Returns September 23

I know a lot of you didn’t like the show, but I certainly did. And I’m quite looking forward to season 2. And if you didn’t like the show, you may be interested in tuning in to season 2 because it does look like they’re changing the tone a bit. Season 2 looks to me like it will be darker. It makes sense given where The Winter Soldier and the episodes of Agents of SHIELD that were after The Winter Soldier left the universe. Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy is technically in this same universe and it was a lot of goofy fun. But it’s pretty disconnected from what else is going on in the universe…

Meet Baymax From Disney’s Upcoming ‘Big Hero 6’

Meet Baymax From Disney’s Upcoming ‘Big Hero 6’

Let me help you get even more excited for November 7th. That’s the date that Disney will release Big Hero 6 into theaters. I’m quite optimistic about this upcoming film. Marvel is involved as well — I mean, Marvel is owned by Disney, but they have maintained their own identity and operations. And they are working with Disney on this animated comic book film. I believe we are going to see the fingerprints on it. Additionally, remember that Disney has been putting out better animated films than Pixar. I have no proof, but I believe this is directly related to John Lasseter taking over at…

Everything Wrong with ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ in 13 Minutes or Less

Everything Wrong with ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ in 13 Minutes or Less

You know, it’s funny. I saw this come through my RSS feeds and I thought, That’s weird, I didn’t remember that I subscribed to CinemaSins but whatever. And so I clicked on it and watched it. And then I thought, huh, these are better than I remember. And then I thought, wait, did Jon Bailey always do these? I finally figured it out. Screen Junkies switched with Cinema Sins. Screen Junkies did an “Everything Wrong With…” video, and CinemaSins did an Honest Trailer.

I loved the “Everything Wrong With…” from Screen Junkies and didn’t like CinemaSins Honest Trailer proving to me that it’s not…

The Giver — Review

4 of 5 stars
The Giver

Books have a lot going for them when they become so successful that public schools make them required reads. The Giver is the first in four novels by Lois Lowry that have earned a place on such a list in America, Australia, and Canada. And only now, after 21 years of popular bookshelf demand, The Giver makes an appearance in cinemas.

Without a doubt, this social science fiction novel has its detractors. Some critics take it to lack “originality” and “literary merit.” Such concerns matter to the critics, as you well know. For what it’s worth, children and young adults usually enjoy the story,…
