“Prenatal Robin” Coming to ‘Gotham’

“Prenatal Robin” Coming to ‘Gotham’
Angie Han — /Film

Showrunner Bruce Heller revealed that a “prenatal Robin” storyline is in the works for Gotham. Also coming in a future episode is the return of the pint-sized Poison Ivy — though her BFF Harley Quinn will be sitting this season out.

Speaking to EW, Heller revealed his approach to Robin. “We’re going to do a prenatal origin story for Robin down the line,” Heller said. “There are no MRIs involved. There’s an episode coming up where we learn how Robin’s parents got together.”

I checked into this show because, you know, why not. I didn’t expect it to like it much or for it to be particularly…

Thai Cinema Chain Pulls ‘Mockingjay’ On Account of the 3-Finger Salute

Thai Cinema Chain Pulls ‘Mockingjay’ On Account of the 3-Finger Salute
Ariana Bacle — Entertainment Weekly

Had tickets to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 in Thailand? You might be seeing a Woody Allen film instead.

Apex, a Thai cinema chain, was scheduled to begin showing the Hunger Games movie Thursday, but decided to pull the film from two of its theaters and replace it with Allen’s Magic in the Moonlight.
The decision comes on the heels of a government event where five students were detained after flashing T-shirts with protest messages and giving the three finger salute—the same salute Katniss gives in The Hunger Games to represent her district, and the salute Thai protesters took…

Sonny Pictures Drops Steve Jobs Biopic

Sonny Pictures Drops Steve Jobs Biopic
Dave McNary — Variety

Sony Pictures has surprisingly ditched its Steve Jobs project, putting the high-profile feature into turnaround.

The studio had no comment on the story.

An informed source said that Universal was likely to make a deal for the biopic.

In recent weeks, producers had set Michael Fassbender to star as the late Apple mogul after Christian Bale dropped out. Seth Rogen is also in talks to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Sure, another studio could pick it up, but this sounds like a death knell for the film. It has certainly been a bumpy ride, starts and stops, troulbed production, high…

Russo Brothers May Direct ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Russo Brothers May Direct ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
Nathan Rabin — The Dissolve

Downey isn’t the only familiar face who will help make Captain America: Civil War happen. He’ll also be joined by Cap himself (Chris Evans) and directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Russo brothers, whose roots go back to television favorites like Arrested Development and Community, did a bang up job on Winter Soldier, so they’re now apparently being eyed to direct the next monoliths in The Avengers series (that would be Avengers 3 and Avengers 4, for those who are counting, though Marvel has already announced that the two films will…

Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’ Trailer

Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’ Trailer

I’ve said in the past that I am just not the target demographic for this film, and that remains true. I’m not sure why we need this film or what it offers to compel me to go to the theaters to see it. In fact, this trailer makes the film look like an almost completely straight up retelling of the animated classic, without quite so much of the outlandishness — well, in some ways. The whole fairy godmother/glass slipper routine looks just as outlandish as the cartoon.

To me, it looks like this film is trying to dazzle and charm, but it’s lacking what the original cartoon had in those areas.…

Diagnosis, Puberty

Find out about TJ and Joe’s differing view on ‘Big Hero 6’ — even if they both liked it. TJ liked it a lot more than Joe did it seems. But they can both agree it’s a great film and representative of the good influence John Lasseter is having over at Disney Animation Studio. Also find out about some follow up from last week having to do with Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ sound issues. Other items on the docket include Playmobil coming out with their own toy movie (because they want a piece of that pie too!), James Gunn talking about a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy, the ‘Peanuts’ official trailer, ‘Night at the Museum 3’ trailer, and ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ trailer.

Big Hero 6 — Review

4.5 of 5 stars
Big Hero 6

You guys remember Wreck-it Ralph? It was a film by Disney Animation Studios in 2012, and in many ways very much in the same line of work as the latest offering from Disney, Big Hero 6. I don’t mean that in terms of plot it is similar — indeed, it is very dissimilar in that way. What I do mean is that this is the new Walt Disney Animation Studios. I think we got a little hint of this with Bolt (2008), which was a surprisingly good film for what it was. Not on the same level as the latest three offerings from Disney by any stretch of the imagination, but quite good, in my estimation.

‘Dumb & Dumber To’ Taken No. 1 Domestic Box Office Spot

‘Dumb & Dumber To’ Taken No. 1 Domestic Box Office Spot
Rodrigo Perez — The Playlist

Despite reuniting Jim CarreyJeff Daniels and directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly twenty years after the fact, Universal’s “Dumb & Dumber To” took the weekend slot with an impressive $38 million; much higher than most original estimates that pegged the film for around a $25 million opening. And the number is a huge increase from the $16.3 million “Dumber & Dumber” grossed its opening weekend in 1994 (adjusted for inflation that’s about $31 million). Impressively, 47% of the audience was under the age of 25, which was a surprise since many thought this was a comedy that skewed much older to…

Daniel Bruhl Joins ‘Captain America 3’

Daniel Bruhl Joins ‘Captain America 3’
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

The studio announced today that Daniel Bruhl has joined the cast of “Captain America: Civil War.” The actor is likely best known for his turns in “Good Bye Lenin!,” “The Bourne Ultimatum,” Quentin Tarantino‘s “Inglourious Basterds,” and Ron Howard‘s “Rush.” In both foreign and Hollywood films he’s always a welcome presence, but who will he play here?

Well, Marvel isn’t saying (though Deadline reports Bruhl will take a villain role), so we’re going to leave it you to guess below. But remember, this third installment of the ‘Captain America’ franchise will likely see Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers…
