Agents of SHIELD

Agents of SHIELD

I love the stories Joss Whedon tells. The man walks on water… he’s perfect, he can do no wrong. Okay, maybe that’s taking it too far, but the fact is he is among the best show runners, filmmakers, and story tellers of our day as far as I’m concerned. That’s why I have been looking forward to his upcoming show Agents of SHIELD since I first heard about it. And having now had the privilege of watching it, I wasn’t disappointed. Of course the hype machine has been in full production mode so it’s hard for a show to live up to that much promotion. But it did.

The pilot episode was, first and…

‘Ender’s Game’ TV Spot — Glimpse More of Formic Invasion

‘Ender’s Game’ TV Spot — Glimpse More of Formic Invasion

This TV spot gives us a bit more look at the Formic invasion as well as glimpses at several other scenes we have not yet seen. And this music for this trailer definitely has a bit of dystopian sci-fi feel to it.

This is looking pretty good and I’m really looking forward to seeing it. It comes out in theaters on November 1st.

Note on ‘The MoveByte Podcast’ - Rescheduled for Thursday

Note on ‘The MoveByte Podcast’ - Rescheduled for Thursday

This is just a quick note to let you know that there will not be a show tonight. Some unexpected things came up. But, we will be doing a show this week. Tomorrow in fact. Joe Darnell will join me once again to talk about Prisoners. As always it should be lots of fun! So make plans to join us for the live broadcast Thursday evening at 7:00 PM Central. I thought Prisoners was a good film, but as Joe hasn’t seen it yet, I don’t know what his opinion will be. You never know, he might hate it… either way, it will make for some great conversation.

Abrams Does Not Deny Cumberbatch Rumors

Abrams Does Not Deny Cumberbatch Rumors
Robert T. Trate — Mania.com

Recently, Yvonne Villarreal of the LA Times caught up with JJ Abrams and asked him about Benedict Cumberbatch being cast in Episode VII. She got the following quote:

“We’re working our asses off trying to get things in place w/ casting.” Benedict Cumberbatch? “I love that guy.”

Again, not a confirmation or a denial. We should know something official, for casting, by the end of the year. Production of Episode VII begins this January.

Such a tease, that JJ Abrams is. My guess, since he didn’t flat out deny it, is that Cumberbatch does have something to do with this upcoming film from a…

‘Big A** Spider!’ Trailer

‘Big A** Spider!’ Trailer

Fizz has been on my case lately for offering my opinion and being hyperbolic about it (I can’t see why anyone would see this, it’s garbage, it’s trash etc.). Well, sorry, right now I’m the only writer here and MovieByte, and I have opinions. And not only that, but I like to be hyperbolic. It’s just my style. And I have a bit of hyperbole coming regarding this film. Ready? Here it is.

This film looks like it will be perhaps the worst film of all time. See? Hyperbolic, because it most certainly will not be the worst film of all time. But it does look bad. Seriously I’m just shaking my head.…

‘Pacific Rim’ Highest Grossing Original Film This Year

‘Pacific Rim’ Highest Grossing Original Film This Year
Angie Han - /Film

Much as we like to bemoan the dearth of original ideas in Hollywood, it’s clear why the studios prefer to bet big on existing properties. The 2013 box office has been dominated so far by sequels, prequels, remakes, reboots, and adaptations — as was the 2012 box office, the 2011 box office, and so on.

Still, a handful of truly new films manage to break through each year, and this year none has broken through harder than Pacific Rim. While the Guillermo del Toro-directed sci-fi failed to make much of an impression domestically, its worldwide tally is the highest of any live-action movie…

Entertainment Geekly on ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

Entertainment Geekly on ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’
Darren Franich - Entertainment Weekly

Four months ago, Star Trek Into Darkness hit theaters. By any objective concrete metric, it was a perfectly respectable Hollywood product. The critics generally liked it. It cost around $200 million and made $465 million worldwide, a financial showing that is neither impressive nor unimpressive. (It wasn’t Man of Steel, but it also wasn’t The Lone Ranger.) It had some funny jokes and it had things exploding in interesting ways. The title was dumb and it had third-act problems and nobody can really explain why they kept the Khan reveal a secret, but if you asked the average person in mid-June…

‘Superman’ Kills

‘Superman’ Kills
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

One of the most controversial points of the already uneven “Man Of Steel” this past summer, was the decision (spoiler alert) to have Superman kill General Zod. Christopher Nolan wasn’t initially a fan of taking it in that direction (early drafts had Zod sent to the Phantom Zone instead), while comics writer Mark Waid (of “Superman: Birthright” fame) was nothing short of enraged by what he saw in theaters. But speaking at the BATFA and BFI Screenwriters’ Lecture last night, writer David S. Goyer defended his choice to put blood on the hands of Clark Kent.

“This is one area, and I’ve written…

‘Agents of SHIELD’ TONIGHT! Here’s the Final Trailer!

‘Agents of SHIELD’ TONIGHT! Here’s the Final Trailer!

Are you guys excited? I am! I’ll be anxiously waiting to not see this tonight because I don’t have cable. Maybe I’ll go hang out with someone who does…

Well whatever, it’s just a TV show… ARGH, who am I kidding? I’m going to die until it comes to Hulu. And as always, this trailer looks great. Yeah, I know at this point the show is pretty much over-hyped, but I’m still expecting it to be great because, duh! Joss Whedon!

Joss Whedon Talks ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Joss Whedon Talks ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Clark did not have a great time in The Avengers, I don’t know if you noticed but things went kind of south for him.

Good to hear that Colson really was dead though. A lot of fans and people who think they know have told me that they thought the intension was always to bring him back and they new he wasn’t really dead and blah, blah blah. Well Joss himseslf says that was not the intention until they started talking about the Agents of SHIELD TV show.

Anyway, this if fun. Enjoy.
