The Psychology of Your Cinema Seat

The Psychology of Your Cinema Seat

WHEN you pick a seat at the movies, you’re broadcasting your personality type to the world.

That’s the conclusion of Japanese psychologist Hiromi Mizuki, who has broken down the average cinema into six seating sections and outlined a personality type for each, The Daily Mail reports.

Her thoughts are below, along with a few of our own cutting, less scientific insights. What does your cinema seat say about you?

1. Well-centred

Ms Mizuki: If you sit in the middle of the theatre, directly in front of the screen, it means you’re confident and decisive.

Bay Don’t Play That Way

Bay Don’t Play That Way

This week, ‘Gravity’ continues it’s high earth orbit in its second week while ‘Captain Phillips’ in its first week takes the number 2 spot. Both really good films, but ‘Gravity’ is, in TJ’s opinion, the somewhat better film. ‘House of Cards’ will probably not go past season 2. This is both good news and bad news. Good, because many shows overstay their welcome. Bad because it feels like the show could do much more than 2 seasons. ‘Hans Zimmer’ is hesitating on scorning ‘Man of Steel 2’ because of the Batman element. Probably not surprising. Two working titles have been revealed for ‘Star Wars VII’! And there was exceeding much joy amongst the nerds! Alamo Drafthouse has banned Madonna from watching any more movies at any Drafthouse establishments until she appologizes for texting during a film and causing a scene when asked to stop. TJ approves. Crew members say ‘Captain Phillips’ is a big lie. Seems like kind of a bummer if true. Marvel is developing more TV Series. The interesting thing here is that they’re looking at a VOD strategy involving Netflix and and other On Demand distributors. Of this TJ also approves most highly. It may not be the original films you wanted, but Pixar is developing another film, and it’s ‘Cars 3’. As long as it’s a good film, it will be fine. But another ‘Cars 2’ and TJ won’t be too happy. Michael Bay was assaulted on the set of ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’. Of course TJ would like to punch Bay too for making such wretched films but he has yet to act on that impulse… And don’t forget to check out what to see this weekend!

‘Thor: The Dark World’ Clips Featuring Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth

‘Thor: The Dark World’ Clips Featuring Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth

It’s almost here you guys and I cannot wait! This film comes straight from Asguard and lands in our theaters on November 8th. First up, Jane is pretty ticked that Thor didn’t even come see her when he was here on earth just hanging out in New York. But it seems his excuse “isn’t bad”. You think she would cut him a little slack since he helped to save our fair world.

In the second clip, Sif thinks she has things under control when Thor steps in to save the day anyway. She doesn’t seem to happy about it.

I expect this film to be quite a bit better than the first Thor film which, in my opinion…

Michael Bay Assaulted On ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ Set

Michael Bay Assaulted On ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ Set
Matt Goldberg - Collider.com

Here’s something Michael Bay can get asked endlessly about when he does press for Transformers: Age of Extinction.  According to THR, the director was attacked on the Hong Kong set by two local men, reportedly brothers, when he refused to pay them $13,000 (U.S.).  Bay don’t play that way, and an argument ensued in which the director got punched in the face.  One of the men then tried to fight off three police officers who intervened.  The brothers were then arrested on suspicion of blackmail and assault (I’m pretty sure we can at least confirm the suspicion of assault).  Bay then resumed…

‘Cars 3’ Is In the Works

‘Cars 3’ Is In the Works
Angie Han - /Film

Michael Wallis, a historical consultant and voice actor who’s worked on the two previous Cars films, has revealed that a third Cars is in the works. It’s unclear just how far along the project is at this point, but it’s far enough that he already has some plot details. Hit the jump to see what Wallis had to say.

Wallis let the details slip during a radio interview with WGBZ in Alton, IL. “Cars 3 we’re coming back to the road. And we’re coming back to 66 into 99,” he said. “That’s the road that runs right through Central California.” (He also admitted that he “didn’t particularly care for”…

Stan Lee’s Rant on 3D Movies

Stan Lee’s Rant on 3D Movies

If you don’t like 3D movies (oh hi), then you are, apparently in good company — that is, if this rant of his is to be believed. Stan would like for 3D movies to go away, and get off his lawn!!!

This seems a bit tongue in cheek but I enjoyed it.

A Carried Away Escape Plan - What To See

A Carried Away Escape Plan - What To See

We’ve got a couple of new films here to choose from, one possible good option, one that doesn’t look great to me but I really just don’t care for the genre, and one that is in limited release.

New This Week

Carrie — R

This is apparently a remake of an older film of the same name from 1976. In any event the film holds no interest for me. But apparently Chad is going to see it (actually I think he saw it last night) and will be able to give a report to us on next week’s episode of The MovieByte Podcast.

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a…

Real Life Plot Holes

Real Life Plot Holes

A little bit of follow up on ‘Gravity’: a reporter asked Alfonso Cuaron if filming in space was difficult… yeah, really. Turns out it was something of a joke for the comedic news outlet. Still, pretty funny because apparently Cuaron answered as if it were a real question. In other news, Hans Zimmer is talking about *not* scoring ‘Man of Steel 2’ (or Superman Vs. Batman if you prefer). TJ and Chad have differing opinions on the merits of the first ‘Man of Steel’ film’s score so that leads to some interesting conversation. Madonna was banned from the Alamo Drafthouse for texting during a film and then screamed at the other patrons when asked to stop. Bravo, Drafthouse! TJ is thinking he needs one of those in Nashville! This week’s main topic and big review focus is ‘Captain Phillips’ — another outsanding entry into this year’s cinematic run down and TJ and Chad sure think it ought to be an Oscar contender, even with the news that it may not be as entirely accurate to the real life story as we might have hoped.

Guillermo del Torro say ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Is Being Written Right Now

Guillermo del Torro say ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Is Being Written Right Now
Germain Lussier - /Film

Pacific Rim 2 exists on a hard drive in Hollywood. For some time now, screenwriter Travis Beacham has been writing a sequel to this summer’s Pacific Rim with the knowledge it might never get made. Guillermo del Toro’s film recently squeaked by to $100 million in the United States, but grossed three times that internationally, earning record numbers in China. Those numbers made the sequel a bit more likely but there has yet to be any official movement on it.

In a new interview, del Toro confirms he and Beacham are continuing to write the film with the hope Legendary will give them a green…

‘Non-Stop’ Trailer: Someone Dumb Enough to Hijack Liam Neeson’s Plane

‘Non-Stop’ Trailer: Someone Dumb Enough to Hijack Liam Neeson’s Plane

Alright, let’s go over this score, shall we? Liam Neeson trained Obi-Wan, he was Ra’s al Ghul who nearly defeated Batman (!!!), he’s Aslan, Zeus, and Bryan Mills from Taken where he did a lot of killing and getting back at people. Who’s stupid enough to hijack this guy’s plane?

Joking aside though, I’m a sucker for this sort of thing and I think it’s just the sort of film I’ll like prett well. I don’t expect to be anything fancy or “best film of all time” or anything like that. But I’ll bet it will be decent, and to some extent, that’s all I’m looking for.

Aside from Liam Neeson, the film…
