Did Renner Lose his Hawkeye Gig?

Did Renner Lose his Hawkeye Gig?
Jesse Giroux - JoBlo

For 90% of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play,” he said, adding that he would have preferred for Hawkeye not to have been brainwashed. “It’s kind of a vacancy. [He’s] not even a bad guy, because there’s not really a consciousness to him. To take away who that character is and just have him be this robot, essentially, and have him be this minion for evil that Loki uses… I was limited, you know what I mean? I was a terminator in a way. Fun stunts. But is there any sort of emotional content or thought process? No.

Allegedly Marvel isn’t happy with Renner’s remarks and…

Brad Bird Talks ‘Incredibles’ Sequel, Asked to Direct ‘Star Wars VII’

Brad Bird Talks ‘Incredibles’ Sequel, Asked to Direct ‘Star Wars VII’
/Film - Germain Lussier

Two projects Bird has discussed as follow-ups are a sequel to The Incredibles, something fans have been begging for since 2004, and a new Star Wars movie. The director talked about both in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, confirming he’s constantly thinking about The Incredibles 2, would like to do that, and that Kathleen Kennedy ask him if he wanted to direct Star Wars Episode VII.

So yeah, there was something to those rumors we talked about back before J.J. got the job that Brad Bird might be taking on the job.

Also, broken record alert, sign me up for an Incredibles

‘The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

‘The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

Last weekend, ‘Iron Man 3’ dominated the box office over the freshmen installment, ‘The Great Gatsby’, but ‘Gatsby’ didn’t do terribly. ABC picks up the shoo-in TV show ‘Marvel’s agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, and released a short promo as well as a full length trailer. Tom Hanks will be starring in an upcoming drama based on a true story called Captain Phillips. ‘Arrested Development’ season 4 is coming exclusively to Netflix, and we’ve got a trailer here for you. ‘24’ gets a 12 episode season, which seems odd, but may be fun. TJ reviewed ‘The Great Gatsby last week, as well as talked about it with Alex Arena on ‘The MovieByte Podcast’. There is an unknown Pixar sequel in development, TJ is rooting for a ‘Incredibles’ sequel. TJ also saw ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Wednesday night and gave a preliminary report that you’ll want to check out. SyFy renews/cancels ‘Warehouse 13’ which makes everyone sad. And of course, there are some films out this weekend that you might want to see.

What to see: Weekend of May 17, 2013

Oh, let’s see, I don’t know but maybe YOU SHOULD SEE STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS THIS WEEKEND! But it’s not big deal if you don’t…

Oh who am I kidding, I will never speak to you again if you do not!

New This Weekend

Star Trek Into Darkness - PG-13
I greatly enjoyed this film and liked it a lot better than J.J.‘s first installment in the reboot of this franchise. I gave my preliminary report of the film over here, and we’ll be talking about it on The MovieByte Podcast this coming Wednesday at 6:30 PM Central Time, so you’ll want to see it this weekend to get up to date for that…

‘Star Trek’ Brain Dump

‘Star Trek’ Brain Dump

Alright, fasten your seat belts, I need to do a brain dump of all the Star Trek stuff I’ve accumulated. I’m thinking I might need to change the name of this site to TrekByte as much Star Trek stuff I’ve been talking about posting about lately. But hey, it’s the big film right now, and indications are it’s going to tear up the box office this weekend here in the U.S.

First up, Anthony Pascale of TrekMovie.com, friend of the site, interviews Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine in the following video.

And then he also interviewed Alice Eve who plays Carol Marcus in the new Star Trek film…

SyFy Renews (and Cancels) ‘Warehouse 13’

SyFy Renews (and Cancels) ‘Warehouse 13’
Nellie Andreeva - Deadline

Syfy has renewed flagship drama Warehouse 13 for a fifth season, which will be its last. Production on the final six-episode installment of the series, on which Jack Kenny serves as executive producer/showrunner, will begin in Toronto this summer for a 2014 run.

A six episode — that means they don’t want to completely tick off fans by not allowing the show to have a well wrapped ending to the series, but they really want it off the air.

SyFy needs a new motto. Something like, “SyFy, where we cancel every single good show and continue to renew trash.” The fact that this show is getting…

A New ‘Man of Steel’ TV Spot

A New ‘Man of Steel’ TV Spot

Man of Steel flies onto our screens soon, and while you are eagerly anticipating, you can watch yet another TV spot. And again, this one has glimpses of things and film footage we have not yet seen.

Superman is a hard super hero to get right. He’s hard for us to connect with and empathize with because traditionally, he is practically invincible and has no character flaws. We flawed humans just don’t understand that. But from some glimpses of some things we’ve seen, perhaps this version of Superman is not so perfect and not so invincible? We’ll find out soon.

Let’s Rob a Bank In a Clip from ‘Now You See Me’

Let’s Rob a Bank In a Clip from ‘Now You See Me’

I’m really interested to see where this film is going, and even what genre it is. Is it fantasy? sci-fi? drama? it’s a little strange. All these clips and trailers are making it look like there’s truly something supernatural going on and not just illusion, placing it squarely in the fantasy and/or sci-fi genre.

In any event, it has certainly captured my interest. And the film has quite the cast with Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and more. I mean that’s quite a bit of star power, right? So that certainly says to me the…

‘After Earth’ Clip - ‘Beacon’ with Will Smith and Jaden Smith

‘After Earth’ Clip - ‘Beacon’ with Will Smith and Jaden Smith

Sci-fi films shall abound this summer, apparently. First we had Oblivion, now Star Trek Into Darkness, then there’s the upcoming Pacific Rim, and Elysium. But that’s okay with me because I usually like a good sci-fi flick. And that’s what After Earth looks like it’s going to be — a good sci-fi flick.

But, it is a Shyamalan film, and while he’s made some good films, he’s also made some bad ones. And in general, his films tend to take themselves way too seriously so who knows whether we’ll like this film or not. At the same time, Will Smith has proved himself when it comes to sci-fi, first…

Clip from “Arrested Development”

Clip from “Arrested Development”

So by now those of you who are big Arrested Development fans are drooling at the possibilities with the 4th season now coming to Netflix on May 26th after the show’s long hiatus. I’m still excited by this new developing model of content distribution, and a world where this on demand content distributor is funding and making shows. It’s really exciting.

So here’s a clip that aired on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Again, I know nothing about the series, so I have to ask the question, is the bald guy Newton from Men in Black II?
