‘Man of Steel’ First TV Spot

‘Man of Steel’ First TV Spot

This trailer may be made of of footage we’ve largely already seen, but who of us doesn’t love a good trailer? And who’s not dying to know what Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan have in store for us with a Superman reboot?

The whole thing with the music is still bugging me. I don’t think we’ve yet heard what it’s going to sound like. And for those who don’t know, those opening notes with the voicing are a direct lift from Hans Zimmer’s Gladiator score. I hope it doesn’t sound anything like that because it would be completely wrong.

Straight from Krypton, Man of Steel flies into theaters…

Two ‘Oblivion’ Featurettes

Two ‘Oblivion’ Featurettes

Man, Universal is releasing a steady stream of these featurettes for Oblivion. They’ve been focusing on Tom Cruise, using practical effects of CG when possible, the beauty of the film and the scenery, the director Joseph Kosinski and more.

The two I have here today focus on filming on the mountain peak, Earl’s Peak, and filming on set at the New York Public Library with Tom Cruise doing most of his own stunts.

I really love the look of the work they’re doing here and I’m looking forward more and more to this film. I know I’m setting myself up for disappointment, but maybe it will live…

What If ‘Stargate Atlantis’ Had a Sixth Season?

What If ‘Stargate Atlantis’ Had a Sixth Season?
David Wharton - Giant Freakin Robot

Atlantis writer Joseph Mallozi recently took to his blog and revealed some details about where the show would have gone in a hypothetical sixth season. He explains that, as the fifth season was wrapping up, the writers were unsure whether the show would continue with another season, or perhaps a standalone movie, or (as the case proved to be) not at all. To hedge their bets, they decided to pen a two-part season opener that could also be repurposed as a direct-to-DVD movie (to be titled Stargate: Extinction). Sadly, neither saw the light of day.

Mallozi reveals that the movie/premiere…

Westboro To Picket Ebert’s Funeral

Westboro To Picket Ebert’s Funeral
Kimberly Nordyke - The Hollywood Reporter

Leaders of Kansas’ Westboro Baptist Church, notorious for picketing at the funerals of soldiers and gay teenagers, have revealed that they plan to picket the funeral of late movie critic Roger Ebert on Monday.

In its news release, the group calls Ebert a “f-g enabler” and complains that he used his Twitter “to mock the faithful servants of God at Westboro Baptist Church.”

I’ve just about had enough of these Westboro guys. If I may speak as a Christian for a moment, they bring shame on the name of Christ and make our job that much harder. Yes Ebert was an atheist and it’s sad. And yes,…

‘Iron Man 3’ Clip - Tony Is Not Afraid

‘Iron Man 3’ Clip - Tony Is Not Afraid

“You just died, pal. I’m gonna come get the body.”

You know, it could be that Stark is such a well known public figure that his address(es) are public knowlege and stuff anyway, but it doesn’t seem like a really good idea to give The Manderin his home address, But whatever.

This clip shows that Tony Stark is pretty ticked at The Manderin about something or other, who knows what. But this seems to be like the prelude to the scene in the trailers where Tony’s home in Malibu is getting blown up so I’m guessing it wasn’t the greatest idea in the world.

I’m looking forward to May 3. Should…

‘The Great Gatsby’ UK Trailer

‘The Great Gatsby’ UK Trailer

Some more on The Great Gatsby. This in the form of a 90 second UK trailer. This is one of those deals that I wonder if I would be far more interested if I had read the source materiel. As it is I’m having a hard time finding the draw and determining what the basic plot is or why I would be interested. Even the synopsis seems unhelpful, which makes me think the filmmakers don’t really know why they are making it either. I’ve been told to give it a chance. Okay, I will.

Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across…

‘Captain America 2’ Begins Production - First Image
Germain Lussier - /Film

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for release one year from now, on April 4, 2014. So that’s exactly how long directors Anthony and Joe Russo will have to complete the film. Principal photography began Monday, and Disney released the first image along with a full press release. The release confirms the returns of Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, and the presence of new additions Robert Redford, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Georges St. Pierre and others.

Check out the photo, they use regular old flags and C-Stands just like we do on the low budget indie productions I…

Watch Full ‘Hannibal’ Pilot on Hulu

Jack Crawford, head of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, enlists profiler Will Graham to find a serial killer who’s preying on young girls.

I have not had a chance to watch this, I’m still getting caught up on some shows from last week that I was not able to watch with everything I had going on in my personal life. But I have added it to my queue and will hopefully be watching it tonight.

The critics seem to be raving about Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy‘s performances as Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham, plus lots of other praise for the show such as the production design and…

“Pixar Will Be Fine”

“Pixar Will Be Fine”
Sandie Angulo Chen - Film.com

I have three children, ages 11, 8 and 5, so I’m entitled to use my sternest sounding mother voice to say this to all of the concerned folks who think Pixar is ruining its legacy: “Calm down.” Seriously, give it a break. The world isn’t ending, Pixar isn’t selling its soul, and there’s no reason to fear the coming of “Finding Dory.”

And although I don’t know anyone who has seen the upcoming “Monsters Inc.” prequel “Monsters University” yet, the trailers and clips make it look as charming as the original. I can tell you without a doubt that I’d rather see “Monsters University” than…

Box Office Report: April 8, 2013

Box Office Report: April 8, 2013

The box office has thus far had a bit of a lack-luster run. I don’t think this weekend changes that for any individual film, but the overall total seems to be a bit more positive. Folks came out to the theaters this weekend.

#1 Evil Dead

Not a film I am in the least interested in, it did come in on top this weekend at $26 million in 3,025 theaters. With a foreign total of $4.5 million, the worldwide total is $30.5 million. And on a budget of $17 million I suppose the studios and producers will call it a win. l call it a massive loss for the human race that such a wretched looking film…
