Captain America: The Winter Soldier — Review

4.5 of 5 stars
Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Hey look, it’s another Marvel film that’s really, really good. Can I get a nickel for every time I say that? Because if I can, I’ll be a rich man. Someday, Marvel will have some sort of downfall that will be a sight to behold indeed, but that day is not here — nor, I suspect, will it be for a while to come. One of the things Captain America: The Winter Soldier shows us is that Marvel has some very savvy filmmakers in their camp. And I mean savvy on many levels. For starters, this film knows what it is, it knows its place, it knows how to inject humor at just the right spots, and what needs to…

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Final Trailer

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Final Trailer

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still greatly looking forward to this film. Like, a lot! But this trailer did not really do it for me. Something about the tone felt off before. Several of the previous trailers did a much better job of getting me excited for this film, and that excitement has stuck, but this just didn’t help. The music, the tone, everything just feels off. Just me?

In any event, the film comes to theaters on May 23rd, and it’s going to be epic and I’m very excited for it.

Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’: Coming to ABC?

Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’: Coming to ABC?
Angie Han — /Film

Although Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has not officially been renewed, Deadline‘s spies indicate that a Season 2 pickup may come along with a series order for Agent Carter. The two shows could air simultaneously next year, with Agent Carter taking over the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.timeslot when the latter goes on its winter hiatus.

Agent Carter originated as a Marvel One-Shot released as a special feature on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray.

I really liked Peggy Carter as a character and I’m a little put out with myself that I still haven’t seen the One-Shot to feature her. I need to make that a top…

Will Audiences Go See ‘Heaven Is For Real’?

Will Audiences Go See ‘Heaven Is For Real’?
Lindsey Bahr — Entertainment Weekly

It’s no secret that Christian-themed films have the potential to be box office gold, but even though faith-based audiences are starved for more material, it doesn’t always pan out the way studios might hope.

While Paramount’s expensive and provocative Darren Aronofsky-directed Noah continues to climb the steep slope toward domestic profitability and Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s Son of God failed to reach Passion of the Christ heights (after seven weeks in theaters it still hasn’t even made Passion‘s opening weekend numbers), the independently released God’s Not Dead came out of nowhere…

How Frozen Should Have Ended

How Frozen Should Have Ended

Yes! So much yes! I loved the film a lot but my wife and I both looked at each other and said pretty much the same thing. Isn’t bottling all that up a really bad idea?

Well the HISHE guys were thinking the same thing. They have pretty much encapsulated the issue. But don’t worry, I haven’t spoiled it, it’s much better than just that. It’s perfect in fact. Have a look:

Cobie Smulders Returning to ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Cobie Smulders Returning to ‘Agents of SHIELD’
Marvel.com

Fresh from her appearance in Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Cobie Smulders is bringing now former-Agent Maria Hill back to “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” in an all-new episode premiering April 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC!

Smulders, who previously appeared in the pilot episode of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” first brought Hill to life in “Marvel’s The Avengers.” Now, with S.H.I.E.L.D. gone Maria Hill has found herself working for Tony Stark…but she’ll soon have an encounter with her former colleague, Phil Coulson.

Good. I liked Agent Hill in The Avengers and her…

‘Allegiant’ (The Final Book/Film in the ‘Divergent’ Trilogy) Will Be Split Into Two Films

‘Allegiant’ (The Final Book/Film in the ‘Divergent’ Trilogy) Will Be Split Into Two Films
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

If there’s one thing Lionsgate/Summit have figured out, it’s how to milk YA franchises for all they’re worth. When it came time to say goodbye to “Twilight,” the studio decided to grab money from the fans twice, by extending “Twilight: Breaking Dawn” into two films.

That is a really unfair assessment. I know I’ve talked about this before, but the Twilight books actually have a decent plot mixed in with all the googly eyes lovey dovey gaggy romance. I have said before that the first three books could be condensed into two, maybe one by cutting out all the awful romancy description of…

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ 1 Minute Clip

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ 1 Minute Clip

To fuel your excitement (and mind), a new 1 minute clip from the upcoming Days of Future Past has been released and it’s full of mutants working together to fight Sentinels.

There’s obviously a lack of context for what’s going on in this clip — it is an out of context clip after all that’s just meant to be a teaser — but it looks solid to me.

‘Captain America 2’ Flies Right Over ‘Rio 2’

‘Captain America 2’ Flies Right Over ‘Rio 2’
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Is was the battle of the sequels this weekend. With “Rio 2” arriving as the toughest competition to the behemoth that is “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” the question was whether or not the Marvel hero could off the family friendly newcomer. And it was a close battle, but Steve Rogers emerged victorious.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” landed in number one for the second weekend in a row despite falling 56% from the previous weekend, adding $41 million to its bank account, for an impressive $159 million so far at home that, when added to the bountiful overseas haul, gives the…
