Possible X-Men Character Spinnoffs Including One for Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique

Possible X-Men Character Spinnoffs Including One for Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Such is the time we live in when franchises are no longer just about sequels or prequels. Spinoffs are the newest goldmine that studios are looking at, hoping to extend branding outward in a never-ending reach of blockbuster moviemaking. “Cars” has begotten “Planes,” Disney is already planning “Star Wars” standalone movies between the saga sequels, Sony is developing movies around the Spider-Man villains and now Fox are toying with the idea of individual X-Men movies. Because of course they are. But they’ve been here before.

In the lead up to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Fox was also working…

‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’ Trailer 2

‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’ Trailer 2

I litterally just got my How To Train Your Dragon Blu-ray from Netflix in the mail (yeah, yeah, I know, old school), so I’m about to get caught up in time to see this. I should have a little bit better opinion on this franchse after I see the first film.

But in the mean time, catch the second trailer for How To Train Your Dragon 2. I found the tone of the trailer to be just slightly off-putting. The bright and happy music all throughout, even when the evil wicked guy was doing evil wicked things was a little strange.

We’ll see if it’s any good on June 13.

Fly to The Theater — What to See This Weekend

Fly to The Theater — What to See This Weekend

Not actually a lot of new stuff in the theater this weekend, but there’s one possible new film you might want to check out, and one I’m certainly not interested in. You may or may not be.

New This Weekend

Rio 2 — G

I couldn’t imagine why anyone was interested in this film or why it was even being made. And then I actually took the time to watch the first one and now I get it. I liked Rio quite a lot. It was fun, funny, heartfelt, catchy, and generally just a lot of fun. Eisenberg and Hathaway nailed the vocal performances as well. I was duly impressed.

So I’m quite looking forward to…

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Featurette

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Featurette

Alright, so this film is not part of Marvel’s cinematic universe, but I’m looking forward to this next X-Men installment quite as much as I’ve been looking forward to any of Marvel’s films. Primarily because it will be good to have Bryan Singer back at the helm — he made the two best films in the franchise thus far. But also because everything I’ve seen up to this point indicates to me that it’s going to be a great film.

This featurette is short but focuses a bit on Bryan Singer and what’s been the best part of returning to the franchise.

‘Captain America 3’ Writers Hard At Work

‘Captain America 3’ Writers Hard At Work
Max Nicholson — IGN

While speaking with Collider, Markus and McFeely revealed that they were invited to work on Cap 3 late last year. Obviously, the project is still in “early days,” but the writers said they’re now in the process of outlining the story.

...

McFeely also noted that they’ve read Joss Whedon’s script for Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will mark Cap’s next appearance on the big screen. “I’m very pleased with the way Joss handled Cap in [Avengers] 2.”

Lucky dogs.

As for the future of Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, the writers said they’re still figuring out how big of a…

Warner Bros. Determined to Commit Suicide, Doubles Down on ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Release Date

Warner Bros. Determined to Commit Suicide, Doubles Down on ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Release Date
ComingSoon.net

Yesterday came the official confirmation from Marvel Studios that they will open Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016, where it will face off against Warner Bros.‘Man of Steel follow-up, Batman vs. Superman. This sort of blockbuster clash of superheroes hasn’t been seen before, and has ultimately divided many portions of the community in support of one side. Many remain skeptical that Batman vs. Superman will actually arrive on that date, as the film was originally scheduled to debut on July 17, 2015, but Warner Bros., much like Marvel, says they’re not backing down.

“It doesn’t make a lot of…

‘Wreck-it Ralph’ Sequel Is On the Way

‘Wreck-it Ralph’ Sequel Is On the Way
Angie Han — /Film

Wreck-It Ralph may not have been a box office juggernaut on the order of Frozen, but it was still a pretty big hit when it landed in 2012. Talk of a potential Wreck-It Ralph sequel began swirling not long afterward, but there’s been no official confirmation that any such movie would actually happen — until now.

Composer Henry Jackman has revealed that a Wreck-It Ralph 2 is being written as we speak, although it remains a mystery when we’ll actually get to see the movie.

Yay! I loved Wreck-it Ralph so much and can’t wait for this!

‘Captain America’ Succeeds Where ‘Man of Steel’ Failed

‘Captain America’ Succeeds Where ‘Man of Steel’ Failed
Mike Ryan — Screen Crush

Admittedly, I never felt too outraged over the ending of last summer’s ‘Man of Steel.’ (Yes, there will be major spoilers ahead.) The complaints over Superman breaking the neck of his foe were certainly valid – therefore changing the very definition of the character – but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the film. That changed after seeing ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’

There’s no way this happened except by total coincidence – the script for ‘The Winter Soldier’ was started two years before ‘Man of Steel’ hit theaters – but the endings of both films offer a striking parallel to…

A ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Movie Reboot

A ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Movie Reboot
Andrew Sims — Hypable

The Battlestar Galactica movie has been rumored for some time, but today it’s taken a big step forward.

Universal has signed Transcendence (starring Johnny Depp) screenwriter Jack Paglen to pen the project, according to Variety. The report says that the film is a “complete reimagining” of the story. Series creator Glen Larson will produce the film.

Oh man, here’s the thing: the Battlestar Galactica reboot in 2003 was really good. At times it was even great. At no time was I bored or disappointed while watching (save for once). My only wish is that we could strike the last episode from…

Chad and TJ are joined by Fizz to ostensibly talk about ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ — and they certainly do, but that of course means that they have to discuss the larger Marvel Universe as well. This is, of course, a lot of fun, and a conversation you won’t want to miss!
