‘Monster Trucks’ Begins Casting, ‘Ninjago’ Could Happen Before ‘Lego Movie 2’
Angie Han — /Film

Then The Lego Movie hit theaters, dominating the box office and earning stellar reviews besides. Suddenly, a Monster Trucks movie looks like a good idea. Such a good idea, in fact, that it’s begun casting, with Suburgatory‘s Jane Levy and X-Men: First Class‘s Lucas Till eyed for the leads.

No. Just no.

Meanwhile, with $197 million in the bank and counting, The Lego Movie is sure to get a follow-up. But the question Warner Bros. is pondering right now is whether to move ahead with both The Lego Movie 2 and the planned Ninjago spinoff, and if so, which one it wants to make first.

Spike Jonze ‘Her’ Interview Gets Prickly on BBC Newsnight

Spike Jonze ‘Her’ Interview Gets Prickly on BBC Newsnight

Rule number one, always be kind, polite, and courteous in interviews about a film you would like to promote if you don’t want to be considered a moron like Quentin Tarantino.

Okay, so he may not have come off that bad, but this interview does not make him look very good, and certainly not gracious. You’ve got to know that anchors like Emily Maitlis have a lot of stuff to go through. She may have been given talking points about the film, she may or may not have seen the film, Jonze has no way of knowing. So getting prickly because she’s asking the wrong, or to him slightly misleading…

‘Gravity’ Honest Trailer

‘Gravity’ Honest Trailer

Screen Junkies does it again, as usual. So try to hold in the barf as you watch!

Oh, and the part about watching it on your phone or iPad… yeah, don’t do that. I’m not even sure I’ll ever watch it again if I can’t watch it in theater.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Trailer

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Trailer

Watching this trailer was… interesting. I don’t know what I was expecting from Guardians of the Galaxy, I don’t really have any preconceived notions of what it is since I am totally unfamiliar with it. But somehow I wasn’t really expecting this. It kind of appears to be straight up sci-fi, which strikes me as a little odd from what I was expecting.

Here’s the official synopsis:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure,…

Police State Warning: Woman Jailed for Failing To Return Movie Rental From 2005

Police State Warning: Woman Jailed for Failing To Return Movie Rental From 2005
Angie Han — /Film

South Carolina woman Kayla Michelle Finley was sent to jail last week for failing to return a copy of the Jennifer Lopez comedy Monster-in-Law that she’d rented nine years ago. Although the store where she originally picked up the tape, Dalton’s Video, has since shut down, the warrant for her arrest never expired.

According to Fox Carolina, Finley, 27, had gone to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office to report an unrelated crime, only to be “shocked and disgusted” when she was arrested for not returning Monster-in-Law in 2005. She was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and spent…

‘Back to the Future’ Power Laces Coming Right On Time

‘Back to the Future’ Power Laces Coming Right On Time
Angie Han — /Film

Technically, we’ve still got one year to go before Marty McFly is due to fly in from 1985 in his DeLorean. But so far, it’s not looking all that likely that next year will deliver on the oddly ’80s-ish future promised in Back to the Future Part II. There are no hoverboards in the streets, the Jaws frachise stalled after four installments, and fax machines are growing more obsolete by the day.

Still, there’s at least one detail that’s sure to come true if Tinker Hatfield has anything to do with it. The Nike designer has revealed that power laces are indeed coming in 2015, just as Back to the…

RoboCop (2014) — Review

4 of 5 stars
RoboCop (2014)

And here is where I’m going to get into unforgivable trouble I’m afraid — at least according to some people. Unlike the original RoboCop, I really enjoyed this film.

I believe that, when you look across the films of history that stand the test of time, the focus is almost always on the story and the characters. My issue with the original film is that they didn’t focus too much on the story and characters. In fact, as I argued, they never really figured out what to focus on.

This modern remake is actually quite refreshing in that regard. The story has been almost entirely re-imagined from…

RoboCop (1987) — Review

1.5 of 5 stars
RoboCop (1987)

There is a part of me that does not want to write this. For whatever reason, RoboCop seems to be a beloved classic. I really don’t fully comprehend why. Admittedly, near future is one of the hardest types of sci-fi to do. In some ways, far future sci-fi is much easier to write because you can kind of let your imagination go wild, and if you write about a period of time that is well beyond your lifetime, it will be a long time before your stuff doesn’t really work. But the sci-fi is only one of the problems with RoboCop.

So obviously I didn’t like this film all that much, and this sort of…
