Man, I have to tell you I only got 50% on this, and I’m in the business. It’s getting really hard to tell. A friend of mine that does 3D for a living only scored 75%. It’s a crazy world we’re living in. Some of those CGs look so real.

BE WARNED OF SPOILERS. There are SPOILERS for the Man of Steel below.

No Really! You’ve been warned.

This week’s cover story reveals how the new film (out June 14) attempts to humanize the superhuman by finding new flaws and vulnerabilities. The most common one, however, was off the table: “I’ll be honest with you, there’s no Kryptonite in the movie,” says director Zack Snyder (300Watchmen) Those glowing green space rocks – Superman’s only crippling weakness – have turned up so often as a plot point in movies, the only fresh option was not to use it. Anyway, if you want to make an…

The Political Situation In the Mario Universe

The Political Situation In the Mario Universe
Domhnall O’Huigin - Slate.com

In the context of this fractured and chaotic world, we must now consider the oligarch known as Mario, and to an extent his brother, Luigi. Both are Italian-Americans of Earth origins and as such themselves represent a foreign influence on Mushroom World. Mario, in particular has been an iconic figure in all events of political significance in Mushroom World and the Grand Finale Galaxy as a whole. Opinions differ greatly as to whether his influence has been a benign one. While he indeed saved Princess Peach, Toad, and other notable leaders from the various threats described above, it is…

‘The Host’ and ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ on Live Broadcast Tonight

‘The Host’ and ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ on Live Broadcast Tonight

This evening, I will rejoin Joe on the podcast after my absence last week. Clark and Joe did a great job of taking up the slack for me but I will be glad to dive back in and talk movies and stuff with Joe.

The subjects today will be The Host and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. I’m planning on giving Joe a good skewering, but we should have plenty of good stuff to talk about for Host believe it or not. I think the film is being unfairly panned because of Stephanie Meyer and the connection to the Twilight saga, which in turn is thought more poorly of than perhaps is necessary.

But in any event…

‘Captain America 2’ Begins Production - First Image

‘Captain America 2’ Begins Production - First Image
Germain Lussier - /Film

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for release one year from now, on April 4, 2014. So that’s exactly how long directors Anthony and Joe Russo will have to complete the film. Principal photography began Monday, and Disney released the first image along with a full press release. The release confirms the returns of Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, and the presence of new additions Robert Redford, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Georges St. Pierre and others.

Check out the photo, they use regular old flags and C-Stands just like we do on the low budget indie productions I…

Stream Entire ‘Oblivion’ Score Right Here

Stream Entire ‘Oblivion’ Score Right Here

We’ve got the entire score for Oblivion streaming here via Soundcloud. As was the case with director Joseph Kosinski’s TRON: Legacy, I expect the score to be a very strong favorable element of the film. And again similar to what he did with Legacy in getting band Daft Punk to work on the score with Hans Zimmer, Kosinski is pulling together Anthony Gonzalez of M83, and Joseph Trapanese to come up with a very unique sound for this score. Obviously scores always need to be evaluated and work well within the context of the film, but just by itself it’s sounding really good!

Give it a…

Restoring the Enterprise D Bridge Set

Restoring the Enterprise D Bridge Set

I like to get all geeky about Star Trek, but I don’t know if I would be geeky enough to do something like this. Still, I’m glad someone is doing it. And via Kickstarter no less. Amazing what you can do with the power of crowdsourcing.

From the video description on YouTube:

We meet the organizers of the Enterprise-D restoration project and learn about their plans to reconstruct a complete starship bridge set from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Turns out, the pieces of this bridge were just left out to waste away in the Paramount Studio lot for years before being discovered and…

‘Oblivion’ - New Clips and IMAX Featurette

‘Oblivion’ - New Clips and IMAX Featurette

I don’t think I need to remind you that I am greatly looking forward to this film. And apparently the studio is making a big deal out of this film as well because, wow, I can’t remember the last time I have seen so much promotional material coming out for a film. That can either man this film is really good or really bad and the studio is trying to compensate for it. I choose to believe the former.

The director also directed TRON: Legacy so that gives me great hope for the film because I really liked Legacy.

I’m not going to spoil it for you, but I think I have a good portion of the…

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ ‘Walking Dead’ Commercial

Sorry I have been absent for the last couple of days. Joe has been able to post a few things for me, but I miss digging up cool stuff and sharing it with you. I’ll be in and out with family stuff going on, but wanted to start jumping back in the saddle a little bit as I have a moment here and there.

This is something cool I found this past weekend and would have shared it with you at the beginning of the week.

Damon Lindelof tweeted this on the 31st of March:
