Hugh Jackman Really Wants in on ‘The Avengers’

Hugh Jackman Really Wants in on ‘The Avengers’
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

“I literally asked the same question the other day to Tom from Marvel who works with all the other studios, he works with Sony and Fox, that’s his job to liaise. I said, ‘Man, can this happen?’ and he goes ‘Look, it’s not gonna be easy because you’re working with different studios and they’re their properties,’ ” he explained. ” But I believe—maybe I’m optimistic, I understand at Marvel they’ve got ‘The Avengers,’ they’ve got a lot of big things going on, but at some point I just find it almost impossible that there’s not a way to bring Iron Man, all the Avengers characters, Wolverine,…

Joseph Kosinski and Tron 3 - Expanding Quora’s Story

Joseph Kosinski and Tron 3 - Expanding Quora’s Story
Sandy Schaefer - ScreenRant.com

Previously, Kosinski expressed his desire for TRON 3 to take the TRON property to the next level of creative expression – when he said that he wants it to be “our ‘Empire Strikes Back’” – and additionally mentioned that the film is going to pick up in real-time after the conclusion to Legacy. That might’ve seemed like a red flag to some people, as having TR3N take place some five to six years after Legacy could allow the film to skimp on addressing the questions and ideas raised by the previous film’s conclusion – and there are definitely some major implications to the ending…

Negotiations for ‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 Underway

Negotiations for ‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 Underway
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

Variety reports that producer Brian Grazer has revealed that negotiations are now underway for a second Netflix season—fifth season overall—for “Arrested Development.” And well, that seems to be all the intel for now, but the news at least indicates that fans probably won’t have to wait another eight years for more wacky antics with the Bluths. There is no doubt that audiences tuned in to watch the latest season in droves, though critical response wasn’t unanimously positive. But there is so much goodwill—and many people really enjoyed season four (though the consensus seems to be that the…

Warner Bros. and Tolkien Estate Duking It Out In Court
Dominic Patten - Deadline

Warner Bros’ claims against the estate of The Lord Of The Rings author J.R.R Tolkien will live to fight another day. A federal judge today rejected the estate trustees and Fourth Age Ltd’s motion to dismiss WB and the Saul Zaentz Company’s counterclaims in the multimillion-dollar court battle. “Fourth Age’s Motions to Dismiss Amended Counterclaims and Special Motions to Strike Amended Counterclaims are DENIED,” wrote U.S. District Court judge Audrey Collins in a dense 6-page order (read it here). In March, WB and Zaentz fired back at the estate’s November 2012 $80 million copyright and…

Confirmed: Sam Mendes Returns for ‘Bond’ 24
Andrew Sims - Hypable

“I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honor all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct ‘Bond 24,’” said Mendes in a statement today. “I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time.”

With today’s announcement we learned that Bond 24 will be released October 23, 2015 in the United Kingdom and November 6th, 2015 in the United States.

This is good news as far as I’m concerned. Of the three Daniel Craig Bond films, Skyfall was certainly…

TIME Magazine has unveiled the first look at Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in the upcoming movie Saving Mr. Banks.

3D Hits All Time Low with ‘Despicable Me 2’

3D Hits All Time Low with ‘Despicable Me 2’
Grady Smith - Entertainment Weekly

Blockbuster sequel Despicable Me 2 earned $143 million over the extended Fourth of July weekend — and although its debut marked a high point at the summer box office, it also marked a low point for 3-D ticket sales.

According to Universal, only 27 percent of Despicable Me 2‘s opening-weekend gross came from 3-D tickets, the lowest 3-D share in modern box office history. Notably, the record low comes just two weeks after Monsters University notched a 31 percent 3-D share on its opening weekend, which at the time was the worst 3-D performance ever. Poor 3-D ticket sales aren’t just plaguing…

Bruckheimer’s Future at Disney

Bruckheimer’s Future at Disney
Kim Masters - The Hollywood Reporter

Amid continuing reverberations from the mega-failure of The Lone Ranger, it appears clear that the movie has damaged producer Jerry Bruckheimer‘s long and often highly successful relationship with Disney and will lead at minimum to a renegotiation of his rich deal for a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean, if not his eventual exit from the studio.

Oh, come on guys! All filmmakers and producers make bad films once in a while (which I don’t even think The Lone Ranger is).

Yet, at the same time I’m kind of torn, because we don’t need a Pirates 5 anyway. Disney should just cancel that project.…

Will Vin Diesel Be In ‘Avengers 2’?
Chris Eggertsen - HitFix

The “Riddick” star took to his official fan page this evening to offer a brief update on that Marvel meeting he revealed late last month, stating:

Marvel meeting today…

Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed…

P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen… you know I get tunnel vision with my work… and after that meeting today… wow!

While the above statement contains nary a hint of what the project in question might be, the real story lies in the photo Diesel posted along with the update: a Photoshop-y image (embedded below) that shows him standing in…

The dates for the U.S. home video release of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness have been announcedIt comes earlier than expected.
