The Helicarrier is going down in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Trailer 2

The Helicarrier is going down in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Trailer 2

And now for something much less heavy.

Marvel has released trailer 2 for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and it’s looking mighty good. This is one of the films I’m looking forward to most this year. And man, what a tease on that flash of scene where we see someone apparently dead under a sheet. Who will it be, Director Fury? Who knows, your guess is as good as mine at this point.

But I can tell you that on April 4th, I’ll be seated in the theater watching me some Captain America. His first movie was my favorite before The Avengers in Phase 1, I’m hoping not to be disappointed this time…

Nintendo Will Not Bring Games to Mobile Phones

Nintendo Will Not Bring Games to Mobile Phones
Sophie Knight and Reiji Murai — Reuters

Reuters headline is a bit link-baity (which is why I wrote my own headline), but there’s information here I want to talk about.

Nintendo Co Ltd dug in its heels on a game console strategy that has dragged it into operating losses for three years in a row, ignoring calls to go mobile and promising instead to wow customers with health-related innovations.

Investors were unimpressed, wiping $1.2 billion from the value of Nintendo’s Tokyo-traded shares in little more than 30 minutes on Thursday, as CEO Satoru Iwata made his pitch for a “non-wearable” project in 2015 to help users stay… Read The Rest

‘Taken 3’ Is In the Works

‘Taken 3’ Is In the Works
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Deadline reports that the awesomely named “Taken 2” helmer Olivier Megaton will be back to direct “Taken 3,” with Liam Neeson set to reprise his role as the man with special skills. Even more, Forest Whitaker is in talks to join the cast — which will also include Maggie Grace — though there’s no word yet on his role. Villain? Ally? Guess we’ll see, but hopefully Bryan Mills has learned that he probably shouldn’t travel in Europe for a while. In case you were wondering, Luc Besson and Kamen both wrote the script this time out too.

This is not going to end well. See also: Taken 2: Please…

Vin Diesel Says Next ‘Riddick’ Film is In Development

Vin Diesel Says Next ‘Riddick’ Film is In Development
ComingSoon.net

“I’m just excited, and happy, and I’m shouting out to you guys to say thank you. Universal just called me and told me Riddick is number one on the DVD charts. There’s no way Riddick would have been made without you guys. You know that. and you guys have been a part of our page since 2012 and remember how arduous a road it was to get the movie made, and to make it rated ‘R,’ and to do it with such a low budget. It’s a win for all of us and I really, really thank you so much. Yeah, I’m excited, and of course, Universal also says they want to develop the next one.”

Okay, I suppose that’s…

Nintendo to Use Smart Devices for Marketing (not full games)?

Nintendo to Use Smart Devices for Marketing (not full games)?
Juli Clover – MacRumors

Following up on my peice yesterday of non-movie related news:

Earlier this month, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata indicated Nintendo was looking into a new business structure involving “smart devices” after the company experienced its third consecutive annual loss in light of increasing competition from mobile platforms.

While that statement was interpreted by some as an indication of Nintendo’s plan to develop game titles for iOS and Android, it appears that the company instead intends to use smartphones to market its existing handheld and console hardware and game lineup.

JJ Abrams on ‘Star Wars’ Secrecy

JJ Abrams on ‘Star Wars’ Secrecy
Alex Maidy —  JoBlo

After the bungled “is he/isn’t he” reveal surrounding Benedict Cumberbatch‘s John Harrison/Khan character in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS put a hole in J.J. Abrams trademark secrecy surrounding projects he has directed or produced, many have been left wondering whether or not he would employ the same with STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. With Disney and Marvel very open and timely with their news surrounding superhero movie news, can Abrams do the same with Lucasfilm’s pride and joy?

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Abrams was asked about how his history of playing things close to the vest will…

Mark Ruffalo Says ‘Avengers 2’ is “More Awesomer”

Mark Ruffalo Says ‘Avengers 2’ is “More Awesomer”

This is from a week ago, but as I’ve already metioned, there wasn’t a lot going on over the weekend that was of interest to me. And this is one I had saved to talk about but never got around to.

Recently in an interview with MTV, Ruffalo say that Avengers 2 is “better, it’s cooler, it’s more awesomer,” It’s a little bit darker, but also really has Joss Whedon’s incredibly, witty and sly sense of humor.” There’s also apparently more for Bruce Banner to do.

Obviously I would expect Joss Whedon’s next Avengers film to be better, but I’m glad to hear that Bruce Banner may be made better use of.…

Nintendo Considering Smart Phones

Nintendo Considering Smart Phones
Richard Padilla — MacRumors

I’ve gone through all the movie news over the weekend and there’s not a lot going on I care to talk about. And I am singularly uninterested in anything that happened at the GRAMMYs so, though it’s a stretch for me to figure out exactly how this is related to movies, I thought I would mention this thing that I’ve had in my saved items for a few days:

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated in a press conference that the company is now considering a “new business structure” that involves smart devices, reports Bloomberg.

The news comes as Nintendo reported a third consecutive annual loss,…

‘Atlas Shrugged 3’ Is An Actual Thing That Is Happening

‘Atlas Shrugged 3’ Is An Actual Thing That Is Happening
Ken Guidry — The Playlist

Well, “Atlas Shrugged: Who Is John Galt?” is still an actual thing that is happening and the producers are continuing a trend that they started with the second film: bringing in an entirely new cast. For the final installment of the trilogy, John Galt will be played by Kristoffer Polaha (“Devil’s Knot”), Laura Regan (“Unbreakable,” “Mad Men”) will play Dagny Taggart, and the rest of the main cast includes Rob Morrow, Eric Allan Kramer, and Joaquim de Almeida. Production on the film has just begun and producers are hoping to release the film this upcoming September, right in time for the…

Paramount is Ending Film Print Distribution

Paramount is Ending Film Print Distribution
Ben Brock — The Playlist

Over the weekend, the LA Times reported something that many had expected, but hoped not to hear: that the first major studio — in this case, Paramount — was going all-digital and ending distribution of actual, physical film prints. Though they didn’t announce it at the time, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” was the last Paramount film for which 35mm prints were shipped (way to go out on a high?), while “The Wolf of Wall Street” became their first all-digital affair (an irony, given that Martin Scorsese is a passionate defender of old formats and old filmstock). It also feels significant…
