The first teaser trailers hit back in the summer, and were nothing short of immense. And with the full-length trailer expected to be attached to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, we’ve now got a brilliant new poster for the epic blockbuster.

With two trailers that I’m really looking forward to — this being one of them — debuting in front of The Hobbit, and of course the attraction of The Hobbit itself, I’m sorely tempted to do the midnight premier thing (won’t that be a zoo?).

It’s because the art world has flat-lined and become an echo chamber of received opinion and toxic over-praise. It’s like the emperor’s new clothes—people are too intimidated to admit what they secretly think or what they might think with their blinders off.

Remember the name Colin Trevorrow? We reported a while ago about him being the possible Star Wars: Episode VII helmer and now, after weeks and weeks of rumors, news is now out that he is not taking on Star Wars, but is instead taking on another beloved-nostalgic cinema classic – Flight of the Navigator.

According to Variety, director Colin Trevorrow and screenwriter Derek Connolly, who worked together on this year’s indie Safety Not Guaranteed, have been hired by Disney to (at least) co-rewrite the script for one of my personal childhood favorites.

We won’t actually see the Michael Bay-produced Ninja Turtles until 2014 or so, but in the meantime Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman is keeping the hype machine rolling by naming all sorts of other movies that Ninja Turtles will be like. Among the titles he’s previously name-checked are The Raid: Redemption, Fist of Legend, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Now he’s also likening Ninja Turtles to The Avengers, in terms of “scope and roots origin.” Lord knows there’s a world of difference between emulating The Avengers and actually being as good as The Avengers, but…

Before you scoff, I have a confession to make: this is a surprisingly enjoyable film. Not great, or even very good, but lots of fun all the same. Walker does an excellent job as the axe-weilding Abe, and director Bekmambetov knows how to stage crazy, visually-arresting freeform action sequences like nobody’s business.

I think it probable that Corey has lost his mind. But, I suppose I’ll have to give this film a viewing sooner or later. Bleh.

Just found this. It’s been on YouTube for over a month but it’s comical how bad it looks. I mean, let’s see, bad plot? Check. Bad actress? Check. Lots of cheese? CHECK!

Does this look like a Miss Congeniality rip-off to anyone else? Well it does to me, and it looks like bad one to top it off.

But I suppose this will appeal to the teenage girl demographic — there’s certainly no lack for comments from what appears to be teenage girls on this trailer’s YouTube page. Such as:

Following news that Disney has bought the rights to the lucrative sci-fi franchise and plans to make at least three more movies, industry insiders say the evil Vader will grace the big screen again.

“He’s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible,” explains a film mole. 

“The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films.”
