While Star Wars continues to dominate much of the conversation about big-ticket sci-fi film, the outcome of the DICE keynote talk between filmmaker J.J. Yesterday, The Walt Disney Co. unveiled plans to make a number of spin-off movies set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — in addition to the post-Return of the Jedi trilogy that had already been announced.

Earlier today, we reported that Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 began production in New York.  Now, we have the full press release that reveals the first official synopsis and the principal cast.

Then Jack Reacher came out and while the film did pretty well critically, it underperformedfinancially. Whether that was because it was released days after the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut and the film begins with a savage sniper attack, because people are just over Tom Cruise, or if people just didn’t respond to the marketing and/or film is to be determined.

Played by Bruce Boxleitner in 1982’s TRON, the character was actually intended to have a cameo in the first Wreck-It Ralph.

April is going to be a big month for Star Trek on Blu-ray. First up is season three of Star Trek: The Next Generation coming on April 30th, along with a special stand-alone release of the two-part episode “Best of Both Worlds” on the same day. In addition on the same day Paramount is releasing a number of Star Trek feature films that were previously only available in box sets. And finally “Best of Both Worlds” is also getting a theatrical release.

Actually, as funny as this is, there is some good stuff here to see. I’m excited for this film, I think it will be better than the shambles that was Iron Man 2. I’m thinking there’s actually a good story to tell here with Tony Stark and the emotional aftermath of the events from The Avengers. The thing about Iron Man is that he started off as not so great of a guy, and that gives him a lot of places to go, to grow. It makes for great story.

The Super Bowl Commercial for Star Trek Into Darkness is just half a minute but mixed in with stuff we saw in the previous two trailers is some new (and very interesting) stuff, along with some new (and very intriguing) dialogue. You can be one of the first to see Star Trek Into Darkness by attending a “Fan Sneak” showing on the evening of Wednesday May 15th. You can buy tickets now exclusively via Fandango. The early screenings were announced by Paramount via the new mobile app which added a new Fandango button. If you click that button you are lead to a list of local screenings.

I could not get it to work through Fandango’s website, but going through the Star Trek Into Darkness app worked for me. So I’m in, and I even have a fairly decent seat (IMAX being reserved seating and all). Awesome!
