JJ Doesn’t Say Rupert Wyatt Won’t Direct Next ‘Star Trek’

JJ Doesn’t Say Rupert Wyatt Won’t Direct Next ‘Star Trek’

Officially, there’s no director yet, but in this video interview, JJ does not say Rupert won’t direct the next Star Trek film, and the rumor that he will is going around. In fact, JJ does say he’s a talented filmmaker and they’d be lucky to have him.

JJ, for his part, will not be stepping away from Star Trek completely. He will simply be too busy with Star Wars to direct it himself. But he will be involved with and producing the film. As much as I liked Star Trek Into Darkness, I think it would be good to get some fresh blood in the directors chair for the next installment.

Possible Plot Lines for the Delayed ‘Pirates 5’

Possible Plot Lines for the Delayed ‘Pirates 5’
Germain Lussier - /Film

There’s no mention of how, or what version of the script this is referring to, so don’t expect everything to be 100% on the mark once the film is released.

Here are the major bullet points revealed:

  • There’s a new female lead and foil for Jack Sparrow. She’s suspected of witchcraft, but is actually a scientist.
  • Witches are a big part of the movie.
  • One of the film’s leads is a ghost, hence the title. He’s a “former member of the British military now sided with Barbossa on a revenge mission.”
  • Two new, young, romantic leads – a boy and girl – both from farming families get caught up in…

‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ Delayed

‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ Delayed
Sophie Schillaci - The Hollywood Reporter

Constantin Film announced on Tuesday that principal photography on the sequel, which was already in production with Sigourney Weaver attached to join the cast, has been delayed. A statement from the production company states that it will use the time to “analyze the results to date and reposition the franchise in order to maximize results for future installments.”

Translation: we have no idea what went wrong, but it was costly and we can’t afford another mistake like that.

As of this moment, the worldwide total is $37.3 Million. The production budget was $60 Million. So they’re bleeding…

‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Writer to Pen ‘G.I. Joe 3’

‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Writer to Pen ‘G.I. Joe 3’
Drew Taylor - The Playlist

Apparently the admirably goofy “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” made enough money that Paramount and Hasbro are going back to the based-on-a-line-of-popular-action-figures well one more time; they’ve just hired Evan Daugherty, the screenwriter behind last summer’s “Snow White and the Huntsman,” to pen “G.I. Joe 3.” Paramount was impressed with the work Daugherty did getting their “Ninja Turtles” screenplay into fighting shape (sorry, couldn’t resist). ‘Retaliation’ director Jon M. Chu returns as director. As of now, a silly subtitle has yet to be decided on.

Snow White and the Huntsman was a pretty…

Andrew Sims - Hypable

Warner Bros. has announced a new Harry Potter-related film series based in the world of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie will be an “original story and will mark Rowling’s screenwriting debut. It is planned as the first picture in a new film series.”

What’s more, the series will focus on the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt Scamander. According to Rowling, the first film will be set 70 years before the first Harry Potter book in New York.

Wow. So um, hmm. Okay.

I don’t know whether to be excited about this…

‘The Railway Man’ Trailer

‘The Railway Man’ Trailer

This one actually looks pretty good. It hasn’t been garnering much buzz around these parts, and I’ve only just now heard of it, but I can assure you that I hope to see this when it comes to general audiences in the U.S.

The film stars Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, and Stellan Skarsgard. Firth plays Lomax, a man who was captured in Signapore and forced into a Japanese POW camp, where he was made to work on the Thai-Burma Railway. Kidman plays his wife, who wants to get to the bottom of her husband’s suffering and Skarsgard is a fellow survivor of the ordeal.

Watch the trailer and see if it…

‘Pirates 5’ Delayed (Because of ‘The Lone Ranger’ Flop?)

‘Pirates 5’ Delayed (Because of ‘The Lone Ranger’ Flop?)
Drew Taylor - The Playlist

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that the film will be delayed well beyond its planned summer 2015 release date, which means it isn’t likely to open until the following summer (the ‘Pirates’ movies aren’t really winter fare). Production on the sequel, supposedly titled “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” will still start this fall, except later than expected.

It’s unclear how much the failure of this summer’s “The Lone Ranger” had to do with the delay of ‘Pirates 5.’ That film featured many of the same creative principles that fuel the ‘Pirates’ franchise, most notably…

Hugh Jackman Speaks About ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past (Video)

Hugh Jackman Speaks About ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past (Video)

“I know, having sat at Comic-Con on that panel with that extraordinary cast, I keep saying it’s like two movies in one, but with the size of it it’s really three in one. It really is going to blow people away because of the story. Bryan Singer, I think, is going to become the first director to make increasingly better movies in a franchise, I’m not sure if there’s anyone else that’s done it.”

There’s no doubt that this upcoming X-Men film is going to be one of the most ambitious. Not only does Bryan Singer have to pull together the two casts that comprise both the younger and older…
