Hitchcock — Review

3 of 5 stars
Hitchcock

Though it suffers from tonal inconsistency and a lack of insightful retrospection, Hitchcock is elevated by nigh-to-inspired performances from its distinguished cast.

Hitchcock is unique to me because it was the first film in theaters that TJ and I saw together. 1 Hardly what we would’ve picked for the occasion, it surprised us both to be more-or-less an entertaining portrayal of Hitchcock’s life and times during the production of the classic horror film Psycho. Since I know a lot of Hitchcock films by heart, and TJ hadn’t taken the time to watch any besides the original Psycho, this…

HAL 9000 Life-Size Replica

HAL 9000 Life-Size Replica
ThinkGeek

This is it. No silly stories, no funny antidotes (to infectious anecdotes). HAL 9000 captivated us when we first read about him and saw him on the screen. And now, we can have the most movie-accurate HAL 9000 replica ever made. We gave it the boring name of HAL 9000 Life-Size Replica, but we can’t waste time with that. Let’s get to the features!

“Captivated” is not the word I would have chosen for any part of that extremely boring and super self-important film, but I have to admit the replica looks pretty cool.

Guillermo Del Toro Turned Down ‘Star Wars VII’

Guillermo Del Toro Turned Down ‘Star Wars VII’
The Playlist - Indiewire.com

Back in November the director said “they haven’t formally approached me,” but when The Playlist sat down with Del Toro recently, he revealed that he did get a call about the job. “We got one phone call to my agent saying, ‘Is Guillermo interested?’ And basically I have so much stuff already of my own, and I’m pursuing stuff that I’m generating already…” he said, explaining that he ultimately turned it down.

For whatever it’s worth. I’m not personally all the familar with Del Torro’s work so this doens’t mean a lot to me one way or the other. Also, while I’m a bit hopeful, I don’t have…

Soap Operas Relaunch With Online Network

Soap Operas Relaunch With Online Network
TV Line

You’re not dreaming, brainwashed by Mitch Lawrence or doped up on Libidozone: All My Children and One Life to Live shall return.

Breaking its silence after weeks of rumors and leaks, Prospect Park on Monday formally announced their latest — and firmed-up — plan to relaunch the defunct ABC sudsers, which will both base production out of New York City-adjacent-ish studios in Stamford, Conn.

Oh. My. Word. Please tell me this is some nightmare where Soap Operas survive in the transition to on-demand and online media distribution. This is right up there with the idea of hell-fire torment.…

The Blue Umbrella

The Blue Umbrella

As always, coming up with the release of Monsters University, Pixar will have a new short film to show us before the main feature. This one will be called The Blue Umbrella, and features a very photorealistic look that we’ve never seen from Pixar before. And The Wall Street Journal has a short clip from the upcoming short film.

Pixar’s shorts are always amazing and I’m sure no matter what look they go for, cartoon or photorealistic, it will be really good.

I also love this first comment I saw on the YouTube posting of this video:

34 seconds and still a better love story than…

‘Buffy’ Connection Link Bait

‘Buffy’ Connection Link Bait
TV Line

The headline reads:

Exclusive: Sarah Michelle Gellar Plotting TV Return – and There’s a Buffy Connection!

And an excerpt:

Sarah Michelle Gellar may be back on the small screen next fall as the star of a new half-hour comedy, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The potential (and currently untitled) series, which is being developed at 20th Century Fox TV (home of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), chronicles the hijinks parents get into while their kids are not at home.

So the Buffy connection is that it’s on the same network. No, read that again. The connection is not that the TV show is…

Chad’s Top Ten of 2012

Chad’s Top Ten of 2012
Chad Likes Movies

2012 was a good year for movies. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see everything – films like Moonrise KingdomThe MasterArgoLes MisérablesDjango Unchained, etc. are all films released in 2012 that I haven’t seen yet – but I DID manage to see quite a few. Here is my personal list of the best films of 2012 (click on the titles to view my full review).

Friend of the site, Chad, runs down his top ten. His top pick of Looper reminds me that I’m sad I didn’t put it somewhere on my list. But that was a difficult list to compile, there were too many good film last year.

I also don’t…
