The Last Stand — Review

The Last Stand

There’s nothing especially awesome here to scream about, but for what it’s worth, The Last Stand carries on a mild amount of amusement for undemanding Schwarzenegger fans.

People that watch Arnold Schwarzenegger movies probably don’t bother to read movie reviews. That said, I’ve watched several films of Arnold’s, and here I am reading and writing reviews all the time. With that in mind, I’ll imagine that Arnold’s fans are the good folks reading this review, and I’ll let them know how this film compares to his others.

First, note that Arnold is getting up in years, and The Last Stand

Die Hard Marathon Trailer

Die Hard Marathon Trailer

Want to see all the Die Hard films in theater? You are so in luck. For one day only, they’re coming. And we’ve got a trailer here to let you know about it too.

Seriously, I’m tempted to see at least the first one. I was like six years old when it came out. Consequently I did not see it in theater.

Is Cumberbatch Playing Robert April?

Is Cumberbatch Playing Robert April?
MovieLine

The release of the first issue of a three-part prequel comic to Star Trek Into Darkness has lent some credence to the theory that the true villain of JJ Abram’s upcoming movie is not Khan or Gary Mitchell, but rather Robert April, the very first captain of the Starship Enterprise.

HitFix’s Drew McWeeny first raised the idea late last year after Abrams’ Bad Robot held a press day for the feature, which hits theaters in May, and now Brandon Connelly at Bleeding Cool has posted panels from the prequel comic which feature April.

‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ has Ninjas!

‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ has Ninjas!

I hope you like ninjas, because G.I. Joe: Retaliation is going to have lots of them if this spot is to be any indication.

The spot finally gets around to showing us some other action from Dwayne Johnson, and yes, Bruce Willis. Also apparently, we’ll be getting a four minute preview of the film in front of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. A reason to go see Hansel & Gretel for the skeptical perhaps (such as Joe).

This film drops on March 29th.

‘Man of Steel’ Gets PG-13 Rating

‘Man of Steel’ Gets PG-13 Rating
Rope of Silicon

The biggest title of note in today’s batch of MPAA ratings is Zack Snyder‘s Superman film, Man of Steel, which like producer Christopher Nolan‘s Batman franchise is rated PG-13. No surprise there, but I’m sure some will be interested in the reason for the rating, which is “for intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language.” Whatever that could mean, I’m not too sure, but there you have it.

Obviously it means the film has a darker and more intense side than the trailers have so far led us to believe. The man is invincible 1 after all, that means that…

Halle Berry in ‘The Call’ - Trailer

Halle Berry in ‘The Call’ - Trailer

When veteran 911 operator, Jordan (Halle Berry), takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl (Abigail Breslin) who has just been abducted, she realizes that she must confront a killer from her past in order to save the girl’s life.

It’s funny that despite my watching the film universe like a hawk I can still miss stuff like this. It’s an indication of bad marketing, frankly. Still, this film has a couple more months so maybe they can get it some publicity. The original trailer has been out for a bit, the trailer I found today is a TV spot. They are both below. It looks like an…

Broken City — Review

Broken City

Broken City’s thinly sketched, formulaic script offers meager rewards for all but the least demanding noir aficionados.—RT

Have you ever wanted to watch a modern detective story set in New York starring some great actors? So have I, but Broken City isn’t that film we dream of. I went into the movie theater hopeful, and came away yawning, and asking myself, “Why? What were they thinking?”

Broken City is based on a spec script and is the directorial debut for Allen Hughes by an untested production company.1 With that in mind, it’s no wonder that Broken City doesn’t meet the mark.

Why…

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ - Be Prepared to Cry

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ - Be Prepared to Cry

J.J. Abrams, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Benedict Cumberbatch are talking up Star Trek Into Darkness in this video from MTV. One tidbit:

The goal of this movie is to make you cry. If the movie does its job, then by the end of the movie, you will have had a reaction involving the eyes. If the movie works, then there’s definitely an emotional component.

And Zachary Quinto thinks some fans might have reason to worry about their favorite characters:

There’s reason to worry, let’s say that much. The enemy that we face in this movie played by Benedict Cumberbatch is entirely…
