I have quite the bag of mixed feelings when it comes to modern trailers. In same ways I think they tend to be formulaic in our modern time. But in other ways, I watch some of those older trailers and remember how awful they were. It was really quite terrible.

Ridley Scott is one of the most powerful directors working in Hollywood. (If he can get The Counselor made, he can do anything.) Following The Counselor, Scott turned to the story of Exodus, and cast a predominantly white cast for the film Exodus: Gods and Kings. Well, they did it again. No, it’s not their best trailer ever, but as usual it’s a lot of fun and makes a lot of uncomfortably good points. I still love the film a lot, but doggone, it’s easy to make fun of.
