The Pixar Theory

The Pixar Theory
Jon Negroni

Every Pixar movie is connected. I explain how, and possibly why. Several months ago, I watched a fun-filled video on Cracked.com that introduced the idea (at least to me) that all of the Pixar movies actually exist within the same universe. Since then, I’ve obsessed over this concept, working to complete what I call “The Pixar Theory,” a working narrative that ties all of the Pixar movies into one cohesive timeline with a main theme. This theory covers every Pixar production since Toy Story.

This is absolutely amazing and astounding. Please take the time to read this. I don’t really…

Joseph Kosinski and Tron 3 - Expanding Quora’s Story

Joseph Kosinski and Tron 3 - Expanding Quora’s Story
Sandy Schaefer - ScreenRant.com

Previously, Kosinski expressed his desire for TRON 3 to take the TRON property to the next level of creative expression – when he said that he wants it to be “our ‘Empire Strikes Back’” – and additionally mentioned that the film is going to pick up in real-time after the conclusion to Legacy. That might’ve seemed like a red flag to some people, as having TR3N take place some five to six years after Legacy could allow the film to skimp on addressing the questions and ideas raised by the previous film’s conclusion – and there are definitely some major implications to the ending…

Negotiations for ‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 Underway

Negotiations for ‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 Underway
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

Variety reports that producer Brian Grazer has revealed that negotiations are now underway for a second Netflix season—fifth season overall—for “Arrested Development.” And well, that seems to be all the intel for now, but the news at least indicates that fans probably won’t have to wait another eight years for more wacky antics with the Bluths. There is no doubt that audiences tuned in to watch the latest season in droves, though critical response wasn’t unanimously positive. But there is so much goodwill—and many people really enjoyed season four (though the consensus seems to be that the…

‘Pacific Rim’ Clip: Anchorage 2020

‘Pacific Rim’ Clip: Anchorage 2020

If you want to see one last little bit of the promotionaly campaign before you head off to the theaters tonight, here is a clip from the film and a trailer of sorts tacked on to the end.

You should be warned though that this could be a mild spoiler. You can get a little sense of where the plot is headed from this clip.

You have been warned.

Beyond Star Trek Into Darkness

Beyond Star Trek Into Darkness
Joseph Dickerson - TrekMovie.com

As readers of this site know, Star Trek Into Darkness opened domestically and internationally late Spring and has earned over $443 million dollars. This is a success for Paramount, albeit a modest one. It’s not a flop, by any measure… but it’s not a home run, either. It’s a solid double or triple, but Paramount (like all studios do with summer blockbusters) was swinging for the fences. So, what’s next? Well, to quote Donald Rumsfeld, there are some “known knowns” and “known unknowns.” Let’s cover what we know, and spend some time theorizing what comes next.

Yeah, seeing how this film is…

‘Out of the Furnace’ Trailer - Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana

‘Out of the Furnace’ Trailer - Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana

This film certainly has a few names behind it: Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Willem Dafoe on the acting side, Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio on the producing side. And yet the film’s trailer has a very indy feel to it. I’m not quite sure what to make of it. Additionally, as the action in the trailer ramps up, the music stays sort of light and in a pop-rock happy, easy sort of feel. It’s a little odd, and makes me feel like it may not be the type of film I would like.

When Rodney Baze mysteriously disappears and law enforcement fails to follow through, his older…

Canceling the Apocalypse - What To See This Weekend

Canceling the Apocalypse - What To See This Weekend

To find out whether we survive the monster apocalypse coming sometime in the near future, you’ll need to see Guillermo del Toro’s newest film, Pacific Rim. I’m not going to spoil it too much for you, but let’s just say that there are monsters and robots and lots of big stupid summer action.

New This Weekend

Pacific Rim — PG-13

I was a little worried about this film at first. It looked for all the world during the first phase of the promotional campaign like a big stupid action movie — all fluff and no substance. The tide of the campaign slowly began to turn more toward the human…

‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Trailer - Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson

‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Trailer - Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson

Who doesn’t know that Mary Poppins is a magical singing nanny who uses a bunch of made up words and cheers up children and unites them to their father? Of course we all know because of the beloved 1964 film titled just that, Mary Poppins. I must have watched the film 100 times growing up, though I haven’t seen it in years (and I can still hear Dick Van Dyke singing Chim Chim-in-ey whenever I hear the name Mary Poppins).

Well, apparently there’s a backstory on how this film came to the screen, and if the trailer and story is to be believed, P.L. Travers took some convincing to let Walt…

Warner Bros. and Tolkien Estate Duking It Out In Court

Warner Bros. and Tolkien Estate Duking It Out In Court
Dominic Patten - Deadline

Warner Bros’ claims against the estate of The Lord Of The Rings author J.R.R Tolkien will live to fight another day. A federal judge today rejected the estate trustees and Fourth Age Ltd’s motion to dismiss WB and the Saul Zaentz Company’s counterclaims in the multimillion-dollar court battle. “Fourth Age’s Motions to Dismiss Amended Counterclaims and Special Motions to Strike Amended Counterclaims are DENIED,” wrote U.S. District Court judge Audrey Collins in a dense 6-page order (read it here). In March, WB and Zaentz fired back at the estate’s November 2012 $80 million copyright and…

‘The Wolverine’ New Clip and Short Featurette

‘The Wolverine’ New Clip and Short Featurette

The jury is still on out whether this film will be any good, and we’ll find out on July 26th. But I’m a bit more interested now than the very first clip I posted made me. It’s certainly an interesting bit of development that someone whom Logan saved many years back, and before he lost his memories, is not repaying a favor. And of course, he doesn’t really remember the guy I would guess.

In this first clip, we get to see a lot more of the scene being teased in the trailers of Logan saving a guy from the fiery explosion of an atomic bomb (wouldn’t radiation still be a problem? Wouldn’t the…
