Keith Richards Return to ‘Pirates 5’?

Keith Richards Return to ‘Pirates 5’?
Movie Line

The $3.5 billion Pirates of the Caribbean franchise may see another mega-star reprise in its fifth installment, and it may not just be Johnny Depp. Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards may return to the franchise after an invitation from Depp.

Richards has bombarded the franchise in all four installments with his persona alone. Depp made no secret that the superstar musician inspired his flamboyant portrayal of Jack Sparrow since its launch back in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

With two great, one decent, and one terrible Pirates film out in…

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ First 9 Minutes Debut
Entertainment Weekly

Boldly going where only Christopher Nolan has gone before, the first nine minutes of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness will debut on roughly 500 IMAX screens starting Dec. 14, Paramount Pictures announced Wednesday. The 3-D footage will play in front of IMAX exhibitions of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Well what do you know about that…

For those of you not planning to see The Hobbit in IMAX, never fear, Trek Movie later reported that there would be a theatrical trailer attached to non-IMAX versions of The Hobbit.

McQuarrie to Possibly Helm Next Mission Impossible

McQuarrie to Possibly Helm Next Mission Impossible
Deadline

After directing Tom Cruise in Jack ReacherChristopher McQuarrie is poised to take on the next installment of Cruise’s signature tentpole. I’m told that McQuarrie is the choice to helm the fifth Mission: Impossible film that is in the early stages of being put together by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. They will hire writers before making it official, but he’s the guy that Cruise and JJ Abrams want.

M:I-5 is a big priority for the studio after the Brad Bird-directed Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol grossed just under $700 million worldwide. McQuarrie, who won the Oscar…

Boxee CEO Doesn’t think People Want ‘On Demand’

Boxee CEO Doesn’t think People Want ‘On Demand’
The Verge

The majority of homes are still on traditional set top boxes — their experience has not changed much over the past couple decades. The biggest change has been DVR and video on demand. Even in homes that have a connected TV or a connected Blu-ray player or there’s Netflix on Xbox — if you look at the amount of time spent actually consuming entertainment, the majority of the time is spent with the traditional box and the old UI. That’s the reality right now.

...

I’m not sure people want everything on demand. They still want some things live, like sports or reality TV. And there’s the…

‘Fringe’ Five-Twenty-Ten Promo

‘Fringe’ Five-Twenty-Ten Promo

We’re sneaking up on the final episode now. The landing gear has been extended, but air speed does not seem to be reduced.

In the last two episodes, it looks like Peter is running full tilt into very bad territory. I really have no idea where they are going with this.

Serious Adaptation of ‘Superman’

Serious Adaptation of ‘Superman’
LA Times - Zack Snyder Interview

It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What…

‘The Hobbit’ Streaming Soundtrack

‘The Hobbit’ Streaming Soundtrack

The Hobbit may not be coming out for another month, but we’ve got the full soundtrack by Howard Shore right here. As far as I can tell, Empire Online first posted this player widget.

Due to copyright concerns you can’t skip around to different portions or tracks in the music, but it’s still a fun listen.

Beginning December 10th, the Soundtrack will be available for purchase in both a standard edition and a deluxe edition. I’d wager it will be worth owning regardless of how the film turns out. I’ve only listened to the first few minutes and I already love it. Howard Shore has returned…

‘Skyfall’ Opening Title Sequence

‘Skyfall’ Opening Title Sequence

I’m not exactly jumping up and down with excitement about the newest Bond film the way the rest of the world seems to be. Still, it was a decent film, and had some truly great scenes and moments in it.

One of the great things about this film is its opening title sequence. I was not a big fan of the opening title sequences of the previous two Daniel Craig Bond films, but this third film had a pretty awesome one. And for your viewing pleasure, it is embedded below.

Call me a geek, or a nut, or whatever, but details like this really set the tone for a film. A well done opening title…

‘The Host’ Trades Vampires for Aliens

‘The Host’ Trades Vampires for Aliens

It looks like Stephanie Meyer’s new book, The Host, is getting a feature film. Not surprising given the success of the film adaptations of her Twilight series.

I do have to say, I have some interest in this film, though it also looks like it may have a cheesy love story it in as well (understand I’m coming from a perspective of not having read the books and knowing nothing about the plot except what I see in the trailer here).

Also, aliens taking over a human body reminds me a bit of the Goa’uld from Stargate SG1, right down to the glowing eyes. Maybe Meyer is a fan?

Anyway, time will…
