I have a confession to make. I have avoided 3D movies pretty much all of my life, believing them to be gimmicky and stupid. As such, I had never seen a film in 3D before this past weekend. Harrison Ford is open to the idea of bringing Han Solo back to life on the silver screen in 2015, according to sources close to the just-announced Star Wars sequel, but don’t be surprised if his contract includes a mandatory death scene for the sly old space smuggler.

This is pure speculation on my part, but after seeing Wreck-It Ralph this past weekend, I am officially convinced that Disney/Pixar swapped studio names between this film andBrave, which was released earlier this summer. I’m hearing that Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-Ass, Stardust, Layer Cake, and X-Men: First Class, is in talks with Lucasfilm to helm Star Wars: Episode VII.  My sources tell me this is the main reason he dropped out of the X-Men sequel (which Bryan Singer is now directing).

Interesting. It would seem to explain why he suddenly dropped out of the upcoming X-Men film. I liked Stardust a lot, X-men: First Class less, but it was okay. So this could definitely be interesting.

Doom may have flopped, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World may have been all buzz and no buck, but Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph proved that there is a place for videogame-themed movies at the box office this weekend.

The $165 million animated film topped the chart with $49.1 million out of 3,752 theaters — the strongest debut ever for a Walt Disney Animation production (i.e. not including Pixar titles). Disney’s Tangled opened with a whopping $48.8 million over the more lucrative Thanksgiving weekend in 2010, so Wreck-It Ralph‘s slightly larger bow (and its hefty $13,086 per theater average)…
