‘The Nut Job’ Trailer - An Over the Hedge Wannabe

‘The Nut Job’ Trailer - An Over the Hedge Wannabe

Hey look! It’s kind of like Over the Hedge, but without all the good acting talent or good story behind it. And seriously, what’s with showing the same shot of the squirrel planning the heist like five times? Is this a major selling point of the film? Is there just nothing else to show? Couple a very mediocre trailer with the fact that this film comes out on January 17th of the upcoming new year and I think we can fairly safely assume that this is going to be a fail.

The film boasts voice talent from Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl, and Maya Rudolph. But I don’t…

Responsive Redesign

Responsive Redesign

Here it is guys. This is the responsive redesign I’ve been talking about for a couple months. There is very little code reuse from the previous design. I’ve re-factored or re-wrote pretty much every line of code.

There were two primary focuses with this redesign:

  1. Fully responsive, mobile first design
  2. More modern, less heavy design

At the time when Joe and I designed the first iteration of MovieByte, we both really liked it. Event since that short amount of time has gone by the web has changed drastically, design sense has changed a lot, the winds of what looks good has shifted, and…

A Cold Box Office

A Cold Box Office

Though only just returned from the edge of the death, TJ does not fail to bring you this week’s fun movie goodness! For starters, the upcoming ‘Star Trek’ film has 2 new writers. The more the merrier! TJ made a mistake with his box office analysis earlier in the week in regards to ‘Frozen’ for which he apologizes. AFI has announced their top 10 movies and TV shows. Joe Cornish is not directing the next ‘Star Trek’ film. Paramount is working on ‘Jack Reacher 2’. ‘World War Z’ Sequel has an announced director. Joe stepped in on ‘The MovieByte Podcast’ this week for TJ to talk with Chad about ‘Frozen’ and you probably won’t want to miss that episode. ‘Agents of SHIELD’s’ ratings fell again this week, which is quite the bummer! And of course, find out what to see this weekend.

‘Rio 2’ Trailer

‘Rio 2’ Trailer

This looks mildly entertaining. I have not seen Rio, so I suppose I should probably rectify that. Rio was apparently based on the idea that Blu and Jewel were the only two blue macaws left in the world — or so they thought. So they must meet and mate or their species would die.

As it turns out, they weren’t the only ones left. There’s a whole flock of blue macaws out there, including Jewel’s data Eduardo. Hilarity, apparently, ensues.

‘Pan’ - Peter Pan Origin Story Gets a Release Date

‘Pan’ - Peter Pan Origin Story Gets a Release Date
Dave McNary - Variety

Warner Bros. has dated “Pan,” its Peter Pan origin tale, for June 26, 2015.

Joe Wright is attached to direct from the Jason Fuchs script but the 3D film has not yet been cast with shooting planned for April. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the pic is certain to bring back the characters created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie about a boy who can fly and never ages.

Wright adapted “Pride and Prejudice” and “Anna Karenina.”

Hmm. Okay. I know I tend to say this about new films sometimes but, did we really need this? I don’t think I need it.

There’s a Dragon in the Theater! - What to See This Weekend

There’s a Dragon in the Theater! - What to See This Weekend

You know, regardless of your feelings about the first installment in this trilogy, you’re probably going to see it at some point. Good or bad, for better or worse, The Hobbit films are/will be a cultural phenomenon. And there’s certainly far worse things in the world.

But a Tolkien adaptation is not your only new option this week… well actually that depends. Saving Mr. Banks is in limited release this weekend. I can’t actually figure out where it’s playing but who knows, maybe it’s somewhere near you.

‘Agents of SHIELD’ Episode 11 Trailer (Airs January 7)

‘Agents of SHIELD’ Episode 11 Trailer (Airs January 7)

This week we got our mid-season cliff-hanger for Agents of SHIELD, and it looks like when the show returns, we are finally going to get some answers on what happened to Coulson between his “death” in The Avengers, and his weekly appearance in Agents of SHIELD. But don’t take my phrasing for complaining, I’m actually happy with the suspense and the hints that have continually been dropped about what’s been going on with Coulson. I still have my suspicions as to what it might be, and whether I’m right or wrong, I should be happy. And of course there’s the possibility that we still won’t get the…

A.V. Club’s 15 Worst Films of 2013

A.V. Club’s 15 Worst Films of 2013
A.V. Club

Bad movies are like bullies: You know in your heart you should just forget them, turning the other cheek rather than holding a grudge, but the thirst for retribution can be consuming. At The A.V. Club, we prefer to get mad and even, blowing (golden) raspberries at cinema’s annual lowlights. Here, ranked by rankness, are the year’s worst movies—a hall of shame that includes blockbusters, sequels, spinoffs, franchise hopefuls, laughless comedies, and a couple micro-indie stinkers. (Bad movies, after all, come in all shapes, sizes, and budgets.) Don’t have the stomach for such petty score…

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Staring Tom Cruise - First Trailer

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Staring Tom Cruise - First Trailer

Hey look, it’s another Tom Cruise actiony, sci-fi-ish film. I kid, but in all seriousness, it looks like my kind of film. And let’s do the math here. Jack Reacher: decent. Oblivion: great! Mission Impossible series: All varying degrees of good. Minority Report: Aweome! So, with that kind of math, I’m on board with this film.

It’s not like this premise hasn’t been done before, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done again, and hopefully done well. The idea here is that Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is trapped in a time loop so that he keeps reliving a single day over and over again. Each time it…

‘Fast & Furious 7’ Being Reworked for Paul Walker Send-off

‘Fast & Furious 7’ Being Reworked for Paul Walker Send-off
Kim Masters - The Hollywood Reporter

The fiery crash that took Paul Walker’s life has plunged Universal Pictures into an unprecedented crisis. Executives are trying to find a way to salvage footage already shot for Fast & Furious 7 instead of starting fresh. But experts say that either way, this tragic twist could lead to the largest insurance claim in Hollywood history.

Sources say writer Chris Morgan now is at work crafting revisions to the script that Universal execs hope can retire Walker’s character from the series using scenes already shot. If he succeeds, cast and crew could be called back to work by late January—but…
