‘Lincoln’ by Spielberg Releases an Official Trailer

‘Lincoln’ by Spielberg Releases an Official Trailer

I’m thinking the movie is going to be the sort of movie I have been anticipating. It will tell a story of Lincoln the way we want to be told he was — not necessarily how he actually was.

It’s very difficult to address historical figures. Someone like Lincoln is still relatable to Americans today. We see his image on our currency, and we hear stories of his kindness, honesty, and sincerity. We are glad to quickly overlook that this president made the country go to war with itself. Obviously it could not have been an easy choice (or his first choice), but it still gives me pause enough to…

‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ - Face Melting Fun — Review

3.5 of 5 stars
‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ - Face Melting Fun

I had the opportunity to see Raiders of the Lost Ark this past weekend in its remastered IMAX glory. I have to say I was duly impressed. The film held up quite well for the most part. And seeing Indy “stick it to the Nazis” is always fun.

I must confess that I have not traditionally thought very highly of the Indiana Jones franchise. And I’m even talking pre-Crystal Skull. Until this past weekend it had been a couple years since I had seen the original trilogy, and I distinctly remember that they weren’t very good films. I have to say that Raiders of the Lost Ark is actually a far better…

Joss Whedon Shepherding the Marvel Movie Universe

Joss Whedon Shepherding the Marvel Movie Universe
Slash Film

Whedon explained that his Marvel deal allows him to make other films like Much Ado About Nothing as he preps the next big stage of Marvel’s cinema. Part of Whedon’s job with the next stage of the MCU is acting as a sort of godfather, making sure that all the stories work together.

...

And he explains that The Avengers — specifically the team-building part of that story — is just the beginning of what he wants to accomplish with the world’s biggest hero team.

The creation of the team is not the happy ending. It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I…

Hangout with Steven Spielberg Announced for ‘Lincoln’

Hangout with Steven Spielberg Announced for ‘Lincoln’

Steven Speilberg’s been hard at work to bring to us another award-winning biopic. This time, what with Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, he is bound to create quite a buzz with the film and stir up age-old controversy and worship for the 16th president of these United States of America.

It’s practically impossible to imagine that Lincoln will not reflect a highly subjective viewpoint of Abe. Some will be very happy with the American spirit and glorification of their “patron saint of freedom.” While one would expect history buffs to be the target audience of Spielberg’s film, it’s…

Whedon’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

Whedon’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’
Slash Film

Shot in just 12 days while Whedon was finishing up The Avengers, this version retains the Bard’s dialogue but moves the action to contemporary LA. (Specifically, Whedon’s own house.) Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof star as Beatrice and Benedick, acquaintances whose prickly banter signals an obvious compatibility. Other Whedon favorites fill out the rest of the cast: Fran KranzNathan FillionSean Maher, and Clark Gregg. Read more of the early buzz after the jump.

I love how Whedon has a sort of casting pool he draws from. Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker played Wesley Wyndam-Pryce…

New HBO Film Reveals Hitchcock’s Dark Side

New HBO Film Reveals Hitchcock’s Dark Side
Movieline

Many movie enthusiasts grew up on reruns of Alfred’s Alfred Hitchcock Presents television show. Call it ‘a twisted treat’ of mine that whenever I have need to take a few sick days off work I have a self-enforced Alfred Hitchcock Presents watching marathon. It’s one of the few programs that’s guaranteed to keep my mind off my dismal condition, and it helps that characters in his stories are going through worse problems.

Alfred Hitchcock was a remarkable filmmaker in his day, and for his craft he is one of my all-time favorite directors. Suspense is a tricky genre, and Alfred hit the mark…

Why Would You Mess With Liam Neeson Twice?

Why Would You Mess With Liam Neeson Twice?

The original film Taken is the story of a retired CIA agent traveling across Europe. He relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who was kidnapped on a trip to Paris to be sold into prostitution.

Human trafficking is a real concern that many people have yet to come to grips with. I know when I saw the original Taken film it was an eye-opener for me and many of my friends. We are far removed from the grim realities. Taken is the first film that made a big hit with general audiences that includes the subject.

It’s always gratifying to see a man’s man in action. Bryan…

The Hunger Games — Review

The Hunger Games

Released to theaters back in March, The Hunger Games has recently been released to home video, which afforded me another chance to watch the film this past weekend.

I first became familiar with The Hunger Games through the recommendation of a good friend of mine that I should read the books. I used to be a ravenous reader. I mean an actual reader, like books with actual paper, laying on my bed reading books. Those days are long gone now that I’m a married man with work to do all day, every day. There are videos to edit, websites to design, movie websites to curate…

The way I consume…

Brave New Hair

Brave New Hair
fxguide

For Brave, the team at Pixar had to deal with a hero or rather heroine, who is on screen for almost every shot, but who needed wild, yet beautiful hair. The simulation department needed to develop a technique and approach not only viable on a hand crafted trailer shot, but something that could be used almost ‘out of box’ on most shots, or the film was simply never going to make its deadline.

Warning: this article contains plot spoilers.

The Princess Merida’s hair was almost a three year process to get correct. Earlier hair such as for the characters in The Incredibles had much more…

‘The Impossible’ Staring Ewan McGregor

‘The Impossible’ Staring Ewan McGregor
Entertainment Weekly

The new trailer for Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor’s upcoming tsunami drama The Impossible shows literally the calm before the storm, and then the horrific storm itself.

Classical music plays over flashes of serene waves, scuba diving, kids frolicking on a perfect, bright beach in Thailand and pensive, loving looks between Watts as Maria and her husband Henry, played by McGregor, at dinner.

Then all hell breaks loose.

Check out the trailer from Summit Entertainment below.

This could be interesting. Ewan McGregor is always great, even in less than stellar films (*cough* Star Wars…
