Anthony Daniels as C-3PO to be in ‘Star Wars VII’?

Anthony Daniels as C-3PO to be in ‘Star Wars VII’?
Sean O’Connell - Cinema Blend

Did Anthony Daniels just open up J.J. Abrams’ infamous Mystery Box?

The original C-3PO appeared at the New York Comic Con recently to host a spotlight panel that he promised would NOT divulge any new Star Wars: Episode VII secrets. And he almost made it through the entire session without revealing what might be a spoiler. Or might not be. You have to be the judge.

“Walls have ears. And we know what they look like. They’re very big ears,” Daniels joked to the gathered crowd, referring to Mickey Mouse’s signature ears.

Still, after being baited by an audience member about how important…

Paul Greengrass responds to Claims of ‘Captain Phillips’ Inaccuracies

Paul Greengrass responds to Claims of ‘Captain Phillips’ Inaccuracies
Peter Sciretta - /Film

Captain Phillips tells the true story of the hijacking of the ship Maersk Alabama, and how Captain Phillips heroically sacrificed himself to save his crew.

Of course like any Hollywood movie, the events are dramatized to make them more cinematic, but most of the facts in the film stay true to Phillips’ account of the story. The only problem is, Phillips wasn’t the only one there, and now his ship’s crew has come out publicly to dispute the events and even blame Phillips for the whole mess. Of course, the crew is currently in a lawsuit with  Maersk Line and the Waterman Steamship Corp. for…

Darth Vader TV Special?

Darth Vader TV Special?
Russ Fischer - /Film

Among the plans are things that we know, such as the launch of Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD, and the new Episode VII feature film to hit in 2015. (This pamphlet, by the way, would seem to squash any rumor that Episode VII will be pushed out of Summer 2015 and into December of that year.)

But one line is very curious. In the Spring/Summer 2014 column is this line: “Darth Vader Themed TV Specials.” Check out an unverified image of the brochure below.

I think I just died a little… do. not. want.

Robin Williams in Talks for ‘Night at the Museum 3’

Robin Williams in Talks for ‘Night at the Museum 3’
Russ Fischer - /Film

Night at the Museum 3 will put Ben Stiller back in the lead role as security guard Larry Daley, under the direction of Shawn Levy.

Now Robin Williams is in talks to reprise his role, too, as the wax dummy of President Teddy Roosevelt that is among the objects that come to life in the museum at night.

The bigger news to me here is that Night at the Museum 3 is happening. The two preceding films in this franchise have been surprisingly good. The question now is whether they can recapture the magic of the first two.

Michael Bay Assaulted On ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ Set

Michael Bay Assaulted On ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ Set
Matt Goldberg - Collider.com

Here’s something Michael Bay can get asked endlessly about when he does press for Transformers: Age of Extinction.  According to THR, the director was attacked on the Hong Kong set by two local men, reportedly brothers, when he refused to pay them $13,000 (U.S.).  Bay don’t play that way, and an argument ensued in which the director got punched in the face.  One of the men then tried to fight off three police officers who intervened.  The brothers were then arrested on suspicion of blackmail and assault (I’m pretty sure we can at least confirm the suspicion of assault).  Bay then resumed…

‘Cars 3’ Is In the Works

‘Cars 3’ Is In the Works
Angie Han - /Film

Michael Wallis, a historical consultant and voice actor who’s worked on the two previous Cars films, has revealed that a third Cars is in the works. It’s unclear just how far along the project is at this point, but it’s far enough that he already has some plot details. Hit the jump to see what Wallis had to say.

Wallis let the details slip during a radio interview with WGBZ in Alton, IL. “Cars 3 we’re coming back to the road. And we’re coming back to 66 into 99,” he said. “That’s the road that runs right through Central California.” (He also admitted that he “didn’t particularly care for”…

Guillermo del Torro say ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Is Being Written Right Now

Guillermo del Torro say ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Is Being Written Right Now
Germain Lussier - /Film

Pacific Rim 2 exists on a hard drive in Hollywood. For some time now, screenwriter Travis Beacham has been writing a sequel to this summer’s Pacific Rim with the knowledge it might never get made. Guillermo del Toro’s film recently squeaked by to $100 million in the United States, but grossed three times that internationally, earning record numbers in China. Those numbers made the sequel a bit more likely but there has yet to be any official movement on it.

In a new interview, del Toro confirms he and Beacham are continuing to write the film with the hope Legendary will give them a green…

Joseph Kosinski Has A New Film in the Works

Joseph Kosinski Has A New Film in the Works
Russ Fischer - /Film

Briefly: Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rodgers, writers of the upcoming AMC series Halt & Catch Fire, have written a new action-thriller script that now has Oblivionand Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski set to direct. In fact, Kosinski came up with the story, and then had the screenwriting pair flesh out the script. (Similar to the manner in which Oblivion was developed.)

Providing the money will be Media Rights Capital, the same outfit that financed Elysium and that has been backing some of David Fincher’s recent work, among many other projects.

I’m keeping my eyes open for…

Marvel Developing More TV Series

Marvel Developing More TV Series
Russ Fischer - /Film

Now the cat is partially out of the bag about Marvel’s next plan for television. (Is this phase two, or the second half of phase one?) The company has several new shows in development, and while we don’t know much about any one of them, we’ll pass along the first info below. Hint: these probably won’t be on ABC.

There’s so little info on the new projects that we’ll just quote straight from Deadline: “Marvel is quietly putting together a package of four drama series and a miniseries — a total of some 60 episodes — that would be taken out to the VOD and cable space, with Netflix, Amazon and…

Crew Members Say ‘Captain Phillips’ Is A Big Lie

Crew Members Say ‘Captain Phillips’ Is A Big Lie
Maureen Callahan - New York Post

Capt. Richard Phillips, they say, is no hero, and the film is one big lie.

“Phillips wasn’t the big leader like he is in the movie,” says one crew member, who, for legal reasons, spoke with The Post anonymously. He worked very closely with Phillips on the Maersk Alabama and was alarmed by his behavior from the beginning. Phillips, he says, had a bad reputation for at least 12 years prior, known as a sullen and self-righteous captain.

“No one wants to sail with him,” he says.

That’s a bummer if true, but it sure wouldn’t make a very good film.

Also, who knows how what happened affected…
