New ‘Terminator” to be Reboot

New ‘Terminator” to be Reboot
Edward Davis - The Playlist

Ahem, your attention please. Another franchise is joining the reboot train:

Once known as “Terminator 5” colloquially, Paramount revealed in a press release that the new “Terminator” film will start over in reboot form and relaunch a new trilogy. Rebooting/remaking a film isn’t hard, it’s been done countless times (see the upcoming “RoboCop” or the rather lackluster “Total Recall” for recent examples), but it is harder to pull off in a satisfying and creatively unique manner when you don’t have as much source material to work with. Then again, there are four “Terminator” films of varying…

Marvel Schedules Untitled Film for 2016

Marvel Schedules Untitled Film for 2016
George Wales - Total Film

Marvel has announced another untitled film to be slotted into its long-term release schedule, the third such project pencilled in for 2016 and 2017.

The announcement confirms the studio’s commitment to a two-films-per-year output, with the film in question slated to arrive in US cinemas on 8 July 2016.

Well, well, what kind of a film could we be looking at?

As for what these unnamed films might turn out to be, there’s plenty of room for speculation. We know that Marvel is keen on a Doctor Strange movie, while there has been plenty of online clamour for a Black Panther…

Goldblum and Pullman in for ‘Independence Day 2’

Goldblum and Pullman in for ‘Independence Day 2’
George Wales - Total Film

Roland Emmerich continues to drip-feed information about the forthcoming Independence Day 2, confirming that Jeff Goldblum will return for the long-awaited sequel.

During a Q&A with Movies.com, the director and screenwriter revealed that Goldblum would be reprising his role as jittery computer hot-shot, David Levinson, alongside fellow returnee Bill Pullman.

Well la de da, I’m dancing for joy. I still say the film will be nothing without Will Smith. Maybe I’ll be surprised, eh?

Legendary May Part with Warner Bros.

Legendary May Part with Warner Bros.

Legendary Pictures and its chief Thomas Tull have a long relationship with Warner Bros. While the production company was founded in 2000, in 2005 Legendary made a deal with WB to produce up to 40 features over seven years. You might have heard of their first collaboration: Batman Begins. In fact, Legendary has had a hand in WB’s biggest superhero films: Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, as well as Superman Returns and Man of Steel,300, and Watchmen. Legandary has also been part of another little WB success story: theHangover films.

Now the deal between Leegendary and Warner Bros. has…

Rick Santorum Named CEO of Movie Studio

Rick Santorum Named CEO of Movie Studio
Angie Han - /Film

Rick Santorum may not be the president of the United States, but he’s about to become the king of Hollywood. Or a Dallas-based, Christian version of it, anyway.

The former Pennsylvania senator has been named CEO of EchoLight Studios, a production company that aims to make “honest, uplifting content” like 2011′s Soul Surfer, only without “water[ing] down the truth.”

Hmm. Okay. I am certainly not Santorum’s biggest fan, but maybe he can do something cool here, who knows.

Specifically, that means movies like EchoLight’s first theatrical release The Redemption of Henry Myers, a Western…

‘World War Z’ Sequel Is a Go.

‘World War Z’ Sequel Is a Go.
Germain Lussier - /Film

Over the past few weeks, Brad Pitt has been cautiously optimistic about a potential sequel to his new zombie film, World War Z. He knows there’s more story to tell and more parts of Max Brooks’ novel to explore, but he was unsure about how the public would embrace the film.

Well, after a $112 million opening weekend ($66 million in the US and $46 million international), which is also the biggest of Pitt’s career, Paramount has decided to move forward on a sequel to World War Z.

Well, you know, I’m hearing good things about this first film and the big opening is surely a huge…

‘Independence Day 2’ Does Not Feature Will Smith

‘Independence Day 2’ Does Not Feature Will Smith
ComingSoon.net

Following word this week of an official July 3, 2015 release date for 20th Century Fox’s Independence Day 2, director Roland Emmerich has dropped a few hints about what to expect from the much-anticipated sequel.

Will Smith cannot come back because he’s too expensive,” Emmerich told NY Daily News while promoting his latest, White House Down“but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much.”

I smell a box office bomb in the making… why do they do this? WHY? If you can’t get the band back together, go make something new! Blurgh.

Well, I suppose there is…

Some Cable Providers Not Allowing HBO Go on Apple TV

Some Cable Providers Not Allowing HBO Go on Apple TV
Appleinsider.com

In response, a few cable and satellite companies that already carry HBO and ESPN are refusing to authenticate mobile or set-top boxes for streaming. According to the publication, Charter Communications doesn’t authenticate HBO Go for Apple TV, while Dish won’t authenticate ESPN. Other providers like Comcast have similar restrictions for Roku.

One person with knowledge of the situation said, “Affiliates are always initially hesitant about things connected to the TV. They were nervous.”

Placing restrictions on your customers, not meeting their needs, making enemies of them always works…

Helena Bonham Carter Will Be Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother

Helena Bonham Carter Will Be Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother
Germain Lussier - /Film

BrieflyKenneth Branagh‘s live-action Disney film, Cinderella, has just found its Fairy Godmother. Helena Bonham Carter will play the iconic role helping the title character (Lily James) fall in love with the prince (Richard Madden) in spite of the Wicked Stepmother (Cate Blanchett).

Oh yeah, I forgot there was an upcoming live action Cinderella. To say I’m thrilled would be a gross over-exaggeration. Let’s just say I am not sure if I care much about this film.

Also, Helena Bonham Carter as the “good guy” and Cate Blanchett as the “bad guy”. What will you tell me next? That there’s a…

Robert Downey Jr. Signs On For Two More ‘Avengers’ Films

Robert Downey Jr. Signs On For Two More ‘Avengers’ Films
Nikki Finke - Deadline

The news was announced a few minutes ago on Marvel.com. Robert Downey Jr reprises his role as Tony Stark in a 2-picture agreement for Marvel’s The Avengers 2 (May 1, 2015) and Marvel’s The Avengers 3 (undated). The sequel will start production on March 2014 led again by writer and directorJoss Whedon. Downey had been involved in tough negotiations with cheapskate Marvel as I’ve previously reported; now the question is which other Avengers 2 actors will solve their contract disputes.

I mean, we knew that Marvel was ultimately going to do whatever it took to get him, right? They would be…
