‘Arrested Development’ Green Screened Together

‘Arrested Development’ Green Screened Together
Angie Han - /Film

So far we’ve had plenty of reasons to look forward to seeing the Bluths get back together for Season 4 of Arrested Development. But now it turns out that the long-awaited reunion wasn’t actually much of a reunion at all.

Due to scheduling issues, Mitch Hurwitz admits, some scenes featuring multiple characters were actually shot at totally different times, with the actors’ performances edited together in post-production. The entire cast was only on set together for a total of two days. We won’t know until the new episodes hit this weekend how that method actually worked out for them, but…

‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ Put On Hold

‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ Put On Hold
Ben Child - The Guardian

A high-profile remake of the classic Jules Verne adaptation 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has reportedly been shelved by studio Disney after Brad Pitt quit the lead role.

David Fincher‘s movie was due to begin shooting in Sydney next month, with the support of a £15m grant from the Australian government. Pitt had been earmarked for the role of cocky master harpooner Ned Land, made famous by Kirk Douglasbut there were reports in February that he had left the project.

So, like, I didn’t even know this was a thing. But apparently it was. I have loved the book for many years and I have…

Whedon Will Not Make Things Easy for The Avengers

Whedon Will Not Make Things Easy for The Avengers
Eric Goldman - IGN

When I brought up Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch to Whedon, he confirmed they were the characters in question, explaining, “You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”

Not being a comic book nerd, I really don’t know who these characters are, but I’ll take his word for it and let you comic booky types get all excited about this. I have my nerdy…

‘Star Trek’ Rights Make for Complicated Relationships

‘Star Trek’ Rights Make for Complicated Relationships
Germain Lussier - /Film

The core idea is that CBS’ and Paramount’s differing viewpoints on the franchise might have frustrated Abrams to a point where, when Star Wars became available, he decided to shift his allegiance and master plan over to the dark side at Disney.

Basically it comes down to this: since CBS owns the rights to the all the Star Trek TV shows, it owns the rights to the characters. In order to make a Star Trek movie, Paramount must license the characters from CBS. (CBS and Paramount were once both owned by Viacom, but CBS broke off in 2006.) At the same time, CBS can do whatever it wants with…

Brad Bird Talks ‘Incredibles’ Sequel, Asked to Direct ‘Star Wars VII’

Brad Bird Talks ‘Incredibles’ Sequel, Asked to Direct ‘Star Wars VII’
/Film - Germain Lussier

Two projects Bird has discussed as follow-ups are a sequel to The Incredibles, something fans have been begging for since 2004, and a new Star Wars movie. The director talked about both in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, confirming he’s constantly thinking about The Incredibles 2, would like to do that, and that Kathleen Kennedy ask him if he wanted to direct Star Wars Episode VII.

So yeah, there was something to those rumors we talked about back before J.J. got the job that Brad Bird might be taking on the job.

Also, broken record alert, sign me up for an Incredibles

SyFy Renews (and Cancels) ‘Warehouse 13’

SyFy Renews (and Cancels) ‘Warehouse 13’
Nellie Andreeva - Deadline

Syfy has renewed flagship drama Warehouse 13 for a fifth season, which will be its last. Production on the final six-episode installment of the series, on which Jack Kenny serves as executive producer/showrunner, will begin in Toronto this summer for a 2014 run.

A six episode — that means they don’t want to completely tick off fans by not allowing the show to have a well wrapped ending to the series, but they really want it off the air.

SyFy needs a new motto. Something like, “SyFy, where we cancel every single good show and continue to renew trash.” The fact that this show is getting…

Jimmy Olsen?

Jimmy Olsen?
Hugh Armitage - Digital Spy

Warner Bros has been rumored to be reimagining Superman’s best friend Jimmy Olsen as a woman for its reboot.

A source previously told Comic Book Movie that the character will actually be Jimmy Olsen’s sister and not a gender-swapped version of the classic character.

Warner Bros is yet to comment on which rumor about the character is true.

I’ve previously mentioned the possibility/likelihood of this back in January. I don’t have a lot of opinion to add except that I’m more or less ambivalent about it. As long as it’s a good character, well written, well acted, and well integrated, I…

Germain Lussier - /Film

Is Pixar making Toy Story 4It’s possible. But we now know they’re at least making a fourth Toy Story Toon, following in the steps of Hawaiian Vacation, Small Fry and Partysaurus Rex. The short is called Toy Story of Terror and will premiere on ABC this Halloween, making it Pixar’s first TV special.

For what it’s worth. The Toy Story shorts are usually pretty fun, and this will make the first time one of their shorts has been a TV special so that’s pretty fun too.

Here’s the short synopsis:

Bonnie is on a road trip to go see grandma with her mom and the toys are in the trunk. Mom…

‘Into Darkness’ Performing Well Overseas

‘Into Darkness’ Performing Well Overseas
Amy Kaufman - Los Angeles Times

While the USS Enterprise has yet to conquer foreign galaxies, it is starting to pick up speed overseas.

Playing in seven foreign markets this weekend, J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness” collected $31.7 million, according to an estimate from distributor Paramount Pictures. The studio said the sequel performed about 70% better than the original did when it debuted in those same countries four years ago. The movie did well in locations like Germany and Australia but fared best in the United Kingdom, where it grossed $13.3 million.

The movie needs to fare well abroad if it is to…
