Unknown Pixar Sequel in Development

Unknown Pixar Sequel in Development
Germain Lussier - /Film

Last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger did a conference call with shareholders and one small piece of information he mentioned has yet to be discussed. Iger said that, over the next five years, Pixar has “fantastic original stories as well as some great sequels to their previous hits.” That’s “sequels,” plural, meaning there must be at least one more beyond Finding Dory. Read the full quote and speculate below.

I worry about Pixar because they seem to be getting “sequel-itis”, but at the same time, Iger did say they have “fantastic original stories” in development in addition to the sequels so…

‘24’ Gets 12 New Episodes

‘24’ Gets 12 New Episodes
Michael Ausiello - TVLine

Fox has officially restarted the clock on 24.

Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly confirmed Monday during a conference call with reporters that the seminal Kiefer Sutherland thriller will be revived in May 2014 as a limited series event titled 24: Live Another Day.

Speaking of unprecedented (see previous article about Arrested Development).

“[It’s] 24 compressed over 12 weeks,” explained Reilly. “It will go chronologically over the day, but it will skip hours. It will be dictated by the plot.”

I’ve never watched 24, the concept never appealed to me. But I know the show has…

Kathleen Kennedy Says Episode VII Draws on Original

Kathleen Kennedy Says Episode VII Draws on Original
StarWars.com

“We’ve devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I’m thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm. “Speaking from my own longstanding connection to the UK with films like Raiders of the Lost ArkEmpire of the Sun and recently War Horse, it’s very exciting to be heading back.”

If there’s truth to this statement about revisiting the origins of Star Wars as being their inspiration, and it’s…

Joss Whedon Would Like To Clarify

Joss Whedon Would Like To Clarify
Joss Whedon - Whedonesque.com

I was going to let it slide, but I’ve got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I’m not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I’m not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I’m not making Downey money. I’m making A LOT, which is exciting. I’m not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts.

In case anyone was wondering, there you have it — at least according to him, he is not making the same amount of money as Downey. And man, that guy can be…

Robert Redford Spoils ‘Captain America 2’ A Little Bit

Robert Redford Spoils ‘Captain America 2’ A Little Bit
Andrew Dyce - Screenrant

“I think a career requires a certain amount of reinvention. If you get caught in one track I think that can be dangerous. Success has a dark side to it. you want to be careful if you’ve had success at something, that you not try and follow it by just duplicating it. That’s why I’m doing this Captain America thing.”

Knowledge we’d expect coming from such a veteran leading man, and a positive look at the comic book movie craze that would hopefully convince some more established actors to crop up in either DC or Marvel films in the future (Sir Ben Kingsley already has, but…maybe some…

Kevin Feige Is Delusional

Kevin Feige Is Delusional
Edward Davis - The Playlist

The crux of the negotiations argument is that Robert Downey Jr. is their flagship star, and he’s still comparatively under-compensated (though he was paid $50 million for “The Avengers,” the four films he has appeared in for Marvel have grossed $3.4 billion dollars together). This will be a big sticking point for Marvel who clearly thinks they are probably paying him enough. Anyhow, when asked about the future films starring Tony Stark, Kevin Feige says Marvel can live on without Robert Downey Jr.

“I believe there will be a fourth ‘Iron Man’ and a fifth, sixth and a 10th and a 20th,” he…

Stingy Marvel and High Dollar Actors

Stingy Marvel and High Dollar Actors
Nikki Finke - Deadline

I’ve learned he’s already made $35 million from the actioner, which grossed $680 million worldwide in its first 12 days. He should exceed his biggest payday to date — that $50M from The Avengers which I’ve learned was more like $70M-$80M now that the film is all in. But it’s reallyAvengers 2 where he’ll clean up big-time — if he wants to reprise the role. He’s hinting to some media it may be time to retire Tony Stark. And saying to other outlets that Marvel better show him more money for Avengers 2. ”I don’t know,” he said on The Daily Show. ”I had a long contract with them and now we’re…

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Opens One Day Earlier

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Opens One Day Earlier
Germain Lussier - /Film

J.J. Abrams‘ new Star Trek movie is coming sooner than you expected. Paramount has moved the wide opening of Star Trek Into Darkness up a day, from Friday May 17 to Thursday May 16. IMAX theaters will still open the film on May 15, however, and it still opens overseas on May 9. But if you don’t live oversees or don’t have an IMAX theater nearby, you can see the film in 2D or 3D at your multiplex a day earlier.

I’m still seeing it in IMAX on the 15th, because I’m a geek like that!

What is with releases moving up earlier and earlier in the week though? It’s a strange phenomenon. It…

‘Mission Impossible 5’

‘Mission Impossible 5’
Mike Fleming Jr - Deadline

Ethan Hunt has accepted another mission.Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have set Tom Cruise in a deal to star in and produce a fifth installment in theMission: Impossible franchise. Both Paramount and Skydance have confirmed this, but they are not saying who’s writing and directing, or when they are targeting release. I’ve heard all along that the director will be Christopher McQuarrie, Cruise’s frequent collaborator who most recently wrote and directed Jack Reacher, the adaptation of the Lee Child novels that starred Cruise. The writer/director will be finalized shortly, and…

‘Men in Black 4’ In Development

‘Men in Black 4’ In Development
Jeff Sneider - TheWrap.com

Sony Pictures has quietly started development on a new chapter in the “Men in Black” franchise, tapping Oren Uziel (“The Kitchen Sink”) to write “Men in Black 4,” TheWrap has learned.

...

“Men in Black 3,” which found Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson joining original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, grossed $625 million worldwide last summer and was the highest-grossing film in the franchise.

Well, no wonder they’re jumping up and down to make another one. There were a lot of things I liked about the 3rd installment so I hope they can keep up the good work. And really, the Men…
