‘Divergent’ Theatrical Trailer

‘Divergent’ Theatrical Trailer

We’ve already talked about how you should probably run for your lives and not watch this because it’s a Young Adult film adaptation and I like it. My track record isn’t spotless here (*cough*CityofBones*cought*). That said, I do think this has some potential to be interesting.

This film is based on the book by Veronica Roth and I admitedly know nothing about it. It has a long list of semi-known and unknown stars such as Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ray Stevenson, and Ashley Judd.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Divergent” is…

Thor Credits Tease Sets up Guardians of the Galaxy Stuff

Thor Credits Tease Sets up Guardians of the Galaxy Stuff
Germain Lussier interview with Kevin Feige

And there’s the first tease at the end of the movie is obviously Guardians, but it also, with the infinity stone, seems to set up some Phase 3 stuff. Is that safe to say?

Yeah. I mean we have… We are always sort of building towards additional things and what’s fun about that reveal for fans and for fans of comics and fans of movies is I think that’s the first time that we reveal that The Tesarac is an infinity stone, that the aether is an infinity stone. You may see another infinity stone in Guardians and certainly fans of the comics know what one can do with all of those stones if, god…

‘Out of the Furnace’ Extended TV Spot

‘Out of the Furnace’ Extended TV Spot

The first trailer I saw for this film had a particularly sort of almost indy quality about it. I’m not sensing that in this trailer.

I’m still undecided about whether I think this film will be any good or whether it’s just going to have a lot of blood guts and gore and not a really good story behind it. They certainly want us to think they’ve got a good story, and maybe there’s one there. But it’s definitely going to be violent. It does have quite the cast: Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, and Willem Dafoe. Ridley Scott is also producing (though he just turned out a stinker with…

‘Maleficent’ Trailer Starring Angelina Jolie

‘Maleficent’ Trailer Starring Angelina Jolie

Who is Disney’s most evil villain? I’m sure I don’t know (Ursala comes to mind though), but Maleficent is probably way up there. And certainly, even just looking at her silhouette brings a chill to one’s spine.

That being said, I’m not sure if I needed a live action version of Maleficent on the big screen. But we’re going to get one anyway. And it looks like Angelina Jolie is up to the task. Granted we didn’t get much of a look at her, but she certainly seems to fit the role.

Here’s the synopsis and trailer:

“Maleficent,” the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959…

Budget Reduction for Star Trek 13?

Budget Reduction for Star Trek 13?
Matt Wright - TrekMovie

In an article released by The Hollywood Reporter earlier this fall titled “Summer Box Office Fallout: Studios’ New Fear of the $200 Million Tentpole” there was a little bit about Trek 3′s (and the previous Trek movie’s) production costs.

...

Paramount also will look to save money on another Star Trek — a franchise, but not quite in the top tier. This summer’s $190 million production Star Trek Into Darkness has earned over $462 million worldwide; its international haul has exceeded expectations at $234 million, but domestically, its $228.5 million hasn’t matched the first film. Whereas…

Thor: The Dark World — Review

4 of 5 stars
Thor: The Dark World

Am I truly desperate? Not really. Am I mad? Possbily. But I liked Thor: The Dark World quite a lot. The film is not without its share of flaws which I shall address, but this film certainly manages to strike a much better note than did it’s predecessor, simply titled Thor. However few critics seem to keep my company on this opinion — well, at least few share my opinion that Thor was not a great film. Indeed, the Tomatometer for Thor sits at 77% while the Tomatometer for Thor: The Dark World sits at only 65% as of this writing.

In short, Thor has been busy restoring order to the nine…

Disney to Ruin — Excuse me “Readapt” ‘The Princess Bride’

Disney to Ruin — Excuse me “Readapt” ‘The Princess Bride’
Joanna Robinson - Pajiba

There’s a shortage of perfect films in this world. It would be a pity to damage this one. If you ask anyone with a beating heart, they’ll tell you that Rob Reiner’s 1987 confection, The Princess Bride, is without blemish. (Well, except for that Knopfler song.) The film, of course, is based on William Goldman’s outstanding novel of the same name but I think this is a rare instance where the movie surpasses book. The film strikes the perfect balance of silly, snarky, sappy and utterly charming. It achieves such a rare harmony and though many subsequent films have tried to recapture it, all…

Lex Luthor Confirmed for ‘Batman Vs. Superman’?

Lex Luthor Confirmed for ‘Batman Vs. Superman’?
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Firstly, Lex Luthor was basically confirmed as the villain for the “Man Of Steel” followup, which everyone sorta figured anyway. Of course, the character had been rumored to make a brief appearance in “Man Of Steel” (which obviously didn’t happen) while the trailer and movie had a few nods to LexCorp if you kept your eyes open and on the look for them. “At its core, Superman is an alien. He comes from an alien world … Lex loves to call him an alien,” Zack Snyder said, to which host Smith countered, “That’s a spoiler, folks.”

Not that I care too much, but I figured you guys might. I’m not…

Missing the Point Entirely - A ‘Hunger Games’ Theme Park

Missing the Point Entirely - A ‘Hunger Games’ Theme Park
Devin Faraci - Baddass Digest

What if The Hunger Games: Catching Fire turned out to be a really great movie that was very smartly about subversion, and what if the people releasing the movie - Lionsgate - sort of never got it and didn’t understand the concept of bread & circuses distracting the masses from the harsh realities of a system they could - and should - overthrow. Well, they might open a theme park based on the kids-killing-kids fun of The Hunger Games

Actually, they are.

Wow. They’ve got to be joking. This is a joke, right? Right???

Talk about missing the point indeed. This is truly the definition of…

‘Ender’s Shadow’ Script Exists

‘Ender’s Shadow’ Script Exists
Andrew Sims - Hypable

During an interview with Hypable today, Ender’s Game co-star Aramis Knight revealed a script centered on his character Bean based on the book Ender’s Shadow exists.

Ender’s Shadow by Orson Scott Card is a novel that parallels the story line of Ender’s Game but follows Bean. The character has a supporting role in Game which hit theaters last week.

“There’s actually a script already written for [Shadow] which I got to read a few pages of,” Knight told Hypable. “[Director Gavin Hood] wanted to film right beside Ender’s Game,” he added, but the script needed to be revised and the budget…
