This is just… wrong. The countryish, Americana Firefly them just doesn’t really work as a backdrop for these Avengers. And yet somehow, I want this show so much! Joss, can we go ahead and just order up this show? It’d be lots of fun. What studio executives do I need to call to make this happen? Just say the word. Thanks, we’ll be looking forward to it.

The biggest title of note in today’s batch of MPAA ratings is Zack Snyder‘s Superman film, Man of Steel, which like producer Christopher Nolan‘s Batman franchise is rated PG-13. No surprise there, but I’m sure some will be interested in the reason for the rating, which is “for intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language.” Whatever that could mean, I’m not too sure, but there you have it.

May brought us Marvel’s The Avengers, in all its hilarious, exciting, Hulk-smashing glory. July gave us The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in Chris Nolan’s epic trilogy, and the biggest, boldest Batman film of them all. When reached by EW, The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon responded: “I’m sorry to hear it, I’m a fan.”

Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, who shot The Avengers, shouldn’t be too put out, though. After all, he’s an Oscar-nominated director of photography who’s worked on films such as Atonement, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and the upcoming Kiera Knightley-starrer Anna Karenina. He’s currently slated to shoot 2014′s Godzilla remake.
