Get Your Guns Ready - What to see This Weekend!

Get Your Guns Ready - What to see This Weekend!

Well, you can either get your guns (2 of them to be exact) or you can turn blue this weekend. I know which one I would rather do…

New This Weekend

2 Guns — R

This film looks infinitely better than other new option(s) this weekend, and in fact doesn’t look like all that bad of a film to me. But we’ll see. It is rated R (what would you expect, it’s Denzel Washington!), but I don’t generally let that bother me too much depending on why it’s rated R.

For the past year, DEA agent Bobby Trench (Denzel Washington) and U.S. Navy intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Mark Wahlberg) have been…

‘Pacific Rim’ Does Well in China, Sequel Now Likely

‘Pacific Rim’ Does Well in China, Sequel Now Likely
Nikki Finke - Deadline

I’ve just learned that momentum is building for a Pacific Rim sequel based on the international box office for the Legendary Pictures/Warner Bros summer tentpole. The latest development is the 3D sci-fi actioner’s Wednesday opening in China to a record-breaking $9M from an estimated 5,700 digital 3D screens, 117 digital 3D IMAX screens, and 22 China Giant Screen sites. That’s a new high for any Warner Bros release and 23% bigger than for any Harry Potter film including 3D Harry Potter 7BPacific Rim grossed a huge 70% of the Top Five market share there. This is after the pic broke through…

‘The Wolverine’ Digs His Claws In — Box Office Report, July 29, 2013

‘The Wolverine’ Digs His Claws In — Box Office Report, July 29, 2013

The Wolverine sharpened his claws and dug right in this past weekend, and clawed his way right to the top. But not far behind him is the world’s greatest super-villain turned nice guy, Gru. Sandwiched in there is one I just don’t get, but I’m not a fan of horror so maybe I’m the wrong person to ask about The Conjuring.

#1 — The Wolverine

Budget: $120 Million
Totals: $55 Million Weekend Gross / $86 Million Foreign / $141.1 Million Worldwide
Week Number: 1

Perhaps a slightly week domestic opening compared to the budget, and compared to the first Wolverine film. But with the foreign total,…

Sharpen your Claws! - What to see This Weekend!

Sharpen your Claws! - What to see This Weekend!

Sharpen up your claws and prepare to be saved by mutants and stuff, because The Wolverine is coming to the big screen this weekend, and as usual, he’s probalby angry, or depressed and the like.

New This Weekend

The Wolverine — PG-13

The first Wolverine film was slightly lackluster, although I enjoyed it more than most. But I’m hoping for much greater things from this film. And it’s getting some pretty good reviews. I’ll be seeing this film this weekend and I’m looking forward to it!

Lured to a Japan he hasn’t seen since World War II, century-old mutant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) finds…

Box Office Report for July 22, 2013

Box Office Report for July 22, 2013

Well, well, I was hoping to avoid writing about The Conjuring because I simply have no interest in this film whatsoever. But it’s my duty now to at least let you know that it has topped the box office charts over the weekend. I don’t know, it just doesn’t look at all good to me. But the people have spoken, and apparently they were willing to throw their money behind it this weekend.

#1 — The Conjuring

Budget: $20 Million (Can’t fault them for overspending I guess)
Totals: $41.5 Million Weekend Gross / $3.4 Million Foreign Total / $44.9 Million Worldwide Total
Week Number: 1

Look,…

What To See: Weekend of July 19, 2013

What To See: Weekend of July 19, 2013

This weekend the box office is zipping right through a dose of nitrous oxide into the world of the dead to bring you some folks who are retired but extremely dangerous.

New in Theaters

Turbo — PG

To be honest, this film doesn’t look great to me. Dreamworks has always been a bit hit or miss for me, and especially in the the past they’ve tended to be a bit copy cat like with some of their films.

But, I do have it on good authority that this film is better than one might expect so I’ll have to see it and form my own opinion.

Turbo (Ryan Reynolds) is a speed-obsessed snail with an…

‘Turbo’ Wins Wednesday But Faces Animation Fatigue

‘Turbo’ Wins Wednesday But Faces Animation Fatigue
Pamela McClintock - The Hollywood Reporter

Another salvo in the 2013 summer animation wars was fired Wednesday as DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox’s Turbo opened at the midweek box office.

According to matinee returns, Turbo should gross in the $6 million range for the day, likely enough to top the Wednesday box office chart and edge out Despicable Me 2, Universal’s megahit.

Turbo is eyeing a five-day debut in the $35 million range, a solid but unspectacular start. Box office observers believe the 3D toon could suffer from animation fatigue, considering it opens only two weeks after Despicable 2 and four weeks after…

Box Office Projections

Box Office Projections
Pamela McClintock - The Hollywood Reporter

Pre-release tracking has been notably soft for R.I.P.D. considering its $130 million production budget, and it could have a hard time fending off Summit’s adult action pic Red 2 and New Line’s low-budget horror entry The Conjuring. At this point, they are all tracking to open in the $17 million to $20 million range, although those projections could shift when final tracking is released Thursday.

The three movies begin rolling out on Thursday night, while DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox’s Turbo opens Wednesday.

Turbo, looking to benefit from being an original story after…

Canceling the Apocalypse - What To See This Weekend

Canceling the Apocalypse - What To See This Weekend

To find out whether we survive the monster apocalypse coming sometime in the near future, you’ll need to see Guillermo del Toro’s newest film, Pacific Rim. I’m not going to spoil it too much for you, but let’s just say that there are monsters and robots and lots of big stupid summer action.

New This Weekend

Pacific Rim — PG-13

I was a little worried about this film at first. It looked for all the world during the first phase of the promotional campaign like a big stupid action movie — all fluff and no substance. The tide of the campaign slowly began to turn more toward the human…

Gather the Minions - What to See This Weekend

Gather the Minions - What to See This Weekend

Gather your minions and hide the moon! This weekend Gru is back baby! Of course, also in theaters, Captain Jack Sparrow will be playing an indian named Tonto who aids a ranger, a lone ranger no less, who must wear a mask to serve justice, or some such thing. Whatever, one thing is for sure, the film is not really about the lone ranger or Armie Hammer, it’s about Captain Jack Sparrow! Duh!

New This Weekend

Despicable Me 2 — PG

I’m not sure whether I’m going to see this or The Long Ranger tonight. They are both equally tied for the “meh” classification in my mind. I saw the first one…
