‘Avengers 2’ To Go Deeper (Whedon Interview Video)

‘Avengers 2’ To Go Deeper (Whedon Interview Video)

If you were wondering how Whedon might be planning to make Avengers 2 bigger than the first Avengers, which was a fairly big, large scale spectacle, well the answer is, he is not planning on making it bigger. He thinks the answer is to “go deeper.”

“Don’t go bigger; go deeper.” ... “Now you can spend your time just digging in — and by digging in, I mean with a scalpel, to cause pain.”

That sounds like the Joss Whedon we know and (usually) love.

One other thing he said in the video that I thought was a very good point, very astute and well thought:

“Something I always say to…

Dueling With Lightsabers

Dueling With Lightsabers

Joe wraps up the week with a look at his review of ‘Hitchcock’ and a few thoughts about seeing the film with TJ, the announcement of who won the HD TV and Netflix giveaway as well as broadcasting the announcement live on ‘The MovieByte Podcast’ Episode #26, the trailer for the upcoming film ‘42’ about Jackie Robinson, the first black Major League Baseball player, and some thoughts on whether the film will be overly preachy and whether the film will ultimately be worth checking out. Then for something much lighter in tone, Joe talks about a video TJ posted titled, If Disney Made ‘Star Wars’ which is just a lot of fun. There’s also Cory’s review of Coriolanus staring Ralph Fiennes. Coriolanus is a contemporary retelling of a Shakespearian classic and it’s worth checking out. And finally wrapping up the week with the MovieByte feature, ‘What to See’.

Coriolanus — Review

5 of 5 stars
Coriolanus

Riots. Famine. War. Politics. Scandal. And Shakespeare.

Ralph Fiennes works both sides of the camera in a stunning directorial debut that reimagines one of the Bard’s lesser known works in a 21st century setting. Coriolanus is the answer to those who wonder if Shakespeare still matters.

A Remarkable Reimagining

Fiennes stars as Caius Martius “Coriolanus”, a proud and illustrious Roman general suddenly pitted against his own people. Rebelling against the schemes of his manipulative mother, Volumnia (Vanessa Redgrave), and banished by the republic he has protected at all costs,…

What to see: Weekend of Jan 11, 2013

Here we are. Another week has come and gone and you may want to head to the cinema this weekend to see something. But you might be wondering what that something might be. That’s why we’re here to help.

New Films

Gangster Squad (R)
This film looks pretty good and I will be seeing it tomorrow. On Monday I posted six teaser clips from this upcoming film which you can find here. And here are the trailers on Apple Trailers site.

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns,…

‘Star Wars’ Live Action TV Series

‘Star Wars’ Live Action TV Series
The Playlist - Indiewire.com

Surely, the first thing that came to people’s minds when they heard Disney bought out Lucasfilm was the possibility of more “Star Wars” films. That one was a given. Well, it turns out that Disney has much more in mind than just another “Star Wars” trilogy, how about a live action TV series as well?

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee recently told Entertainment Weekly that he was indeed interested in collaborating with Lucasfilm on a TV series the company had shelved a couple of years ago. “We’d love to do something with Lucasfilm, we’re not sure what yet,” Lee told the magazine.…

‘Star Trek’ App

‘Star Trek’ App
FilmoFilia.com

In a world in which smartphones are resembling mini-computers, it makes sense that Star Trek Into Darkness would have an app to suit it well.

A smartphone app for fans anticipating J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel will launch at the end of this month, and will allow users to go on Starfleet-esque missions by inputting audio-visual elements into their phones.

For example, a fan could watch the Into Darkness trailer on TV, and the app’s audio tool would hear it and might reward its user with points for unlocking a new Star Trek image or wallpaper. The app’s geolocation tool might…

‘42’ Trailer

‘42’ Trailer

Jackie Robinson was the first black Major League Baseball player. It also means he was the focus of much scorn, criticism, and racism.

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s racism. So while I’m not a big fan of sports at all, I will likely see this film.

There does seem to be an overabundance of films dealing racism lately though. Not sure if I’m just happening to notice a lot more or if there is a lot more in the last couple of years.

“He’s already working on the scripts for the series,” said Lee. “We will have to work. We shot it in Los Angeles to make sure that he is free to work across his feature life and his television life, but I love to see Joss who of course has made many great television shows in his day, enjoying television as much as movies. That’s flattering for us. We love that.”

We can assume the budget for a S.H.I.E.L.D. show will be high, but Lee is thinking long term economics. “On the one hand, we have to make shows that can sustain for many, many years and we’d love to see ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ go not just…

If Disney Made ‘Star Wars’

If Disney Made ‘Star Wars’

Here, let me bring you a little bit of funny on this fine Friday morning.

This is so horrible, but so funny. It’s a must see. And we can be glad that Disney did not make the original Star Wars films, although this may have been an improvement over the prequels.

Warning, you will probably never be able to unsee this when watching Star Wars in the future.

And the winner is…

And the winner is…

Throughout the months of November and December, we ran a giveaway where you could sign up to be entered into a drawing to win an HD TV and a one year subscription to Netflix.

Last night, we announced the winner live on The MovieByte Podcast Episode 26. That’s the special sort of privilege you get when you listen live!

And now we have just released the episode to the masses. If you are subscribed in iTunes, Instacast, or any other feed reader/podcatcher, it is now available (refresh your feeds!). It is also available as always right here on the site at MovieByte.com/mbpodcast/26.
