The Honest Trailer You’ve Been Waiting For! ‘Thor’

The Honest Trailer You’ve Been Waiting For! ‘Thor’

I sure do love Honest Trailers. They’re always varying degrees of good, hardly ever bad. While this one falls somwhere in the middle one the good scale, it’s still pretty good. And yeah, I knew I couldn’t be the only person in the whole road having flashes of the dreaded Rainbow Road from Mario Kart whenver they showed the Rainbow Bridge in Thor.

Thor was easily my least favorite of the pre-Avengers Marvel films which makes this trailer work even better.

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Trailer

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Trailer

Oh man, oh man, oh man! This is going to be soooooo good. I can already see I’m glad to have Bryan Singer back at the helm. This trailer has the tone that made his first two X-Men films so good. Of course as expected from the title, this film is about the mingling and crossing over of the past and the future. And probably about setting some things right that Brett Ratner screwed up.

But this… this is going to be epic you guys! I can’t wait. May 23rd, 2014 can’t come soon enough!

‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ Moved to January Release

‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ Moved to January Release
Pamela Gocobachi - Entertainment Weekly

EW has confirmed that Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit has dropped off the Christmas release schedule and will now open Jan. 17, 2014.

The Paramount Pictures’ action movie is based on characters from late author Tom Clancy and stars Chris Pine (Star Trek) as a young CIA analysis who uncovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack. Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie), Kevin Costner (Man of Steel), and Kiera Knightly (Anna Karenina) will also star alongside Pine in the upcoming action thriller directed by Kenneth Branagh.

That’s not a good sign. When’s the last time we saw a…

‘Planes: Fire and Rescue’ Trailer — Ugh

‘Planes: Fire and Rescue’ Trailer — Ugh

Oh, no no no no no no… I think it’s safe to say that if Disney’s Planes was ever any good, or going to be any good it has officially jumped the shark now. I mean, ugh. Who wants to watch this??? This sort of thing, by the way, is why I was not a happy camper when Disney bought out Pixar. On the one hand, they have allowed Pixar to remain Pixar and not tampered too much, to my surprise (although one could argue that Pixar’s quality has gone down in recent years, I’m not convinced that Disney’s fault though), but they do have the rights to Pixar’s properties. And Disney will be Disney. They…

In Which Netflix Occasionally Spews Garbage

In Which Netflix Occasionally Spews Garbage
Russ Fischer - /Film

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos raised some eyebrows this weekend when he claimed that movie theater owners are the ones threatening to kill the movie business. Their refusal to innovate with day and date releases for big movies in theaters and on digital is stifling the industry.

Oh come on. You all know that I’m a huge proponent of Netflix and video on demand but that’s just ridiculous. And I am not a proponent of killing the movie theater in general. I am a proponent of on-demand TV because that content is already on the small screen. But there’s something special (to me at…

A Jacktastic Weekend - Box Office Report

A Jacktastic Weekend - Box Office Report

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore. No really, I want to go somewhere else. Any planet where the number one movie for the weekend can be something that looks so terrible is not a planet where I care to have my residence.

The good news is that at least Gravity still had a pretty good weekend.

#1 — Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa

Budget: $15 Million
Totals: $32 Million, Weekend / $8.1 Million, Foreign / $40 Million, Worldwide
Weekend: 1

Did you see the preview for this? No really, did you see it? I tried. I couldn’t make it all the way through it was so bad. Crass, vulgar, and…

Escape Plan — Review

3.5 of 5 stars
Escape Plan

Is there room for old style action heroes in our modern day world? Is there something more than nostalgia going on here? I was a bit skeptical at first — well to be honest I was of two minds about it really. On the one hand the trailers actually looked good. It seemed as if there might be something more to this film than stupidity and face punching. On the other hand, how could a film with two actors that I loathe in general be any good? So I couldn’t quite decide whether I thought the film would be any good. That being the case, I simply had to go and see it so I could make a determination…

Original ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Draft — Drunken Dinner with Vader

Original ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Draft — Drunken Dinner with Vader
Drew Taylor - The Playlist

But maybe the biggest difference is that, when communing on the Degobah-like planet (aided by Minch, not Yoda), Luke actually comes in contact with the ghost of his father. And that father isn’t Darth Vader. As Ryan notes, “this pretty much proves that the Vader-Luke, father-son relationship was not Lucas’ plan all along.”

Well, phooey. I’m not a big fan of Lucas’, but I’ve always defended him on this when he says Vader was always supposed to be Luke’s dad. But apparently not. Of course the other explanation is that the Leigh Brackett (original screenwriter of this less then stellar draft)…

‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Final Trailer

“Miss Everdeen, would you like to be in a real war?” President Snow wants to know. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes out in just 24 days. Given that short period of time, the studio has seen fit to release to us the final trailer.

This one is going to be a good one, guys. This trailer is only a minute, but it’s got me ready to get myself to the theater and watch. Of course I’ll have to wait until November 22. Have a look:
