Malekith Awakens in ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Clip

Malekith Awakens in ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Clip

Our dear Asguardian prince will be battling it out with a new (to me anyway) enemy on November 8th. His name is Malekith the Accursed and he’s leader of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim (do not ask me how to pronouce that for I have no idea). Malekith is played by Christopher Eccleston who I am given to understand is a Doctor Who alum, so you Whovians can go ahead and geek out if you like.

This clip really doesn’t offer any insight into anything other than the fact that apparently, something is awakening Malekith (and his people?).

Go ahead and have a look.

‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ 3 Minute International Trailer

‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ 3 Minute International Trailer

Nope. Stil lnot feeling it. I still can’t muster an ounce of care. It looks silly and hokey and cheesey, etc. But I seem to be the only one. A lot of you seem to be looking foward to this one. So I post this trailer for you.

The film opens on Christmas Day. I sure won’t be seeing it on Christmas Day. I’ll be opening presents with my family and spending time with them!

But enjoy, if you must:

Crew Members Say ‘Captain Phillips’ Is A Big Lie

Crew Members Say ‘Captain Phillips’ Is A Big Lie
Maureen Callahan - New York Post

Capt. Richard Phillips, they say, is no hero, and the film is one big lie.

“Phillips wasn’t the big leader like he is in the movie,” says one crew member, who, for legal reasons, spoke with The Post anonymously. He worked very closely with Phillips on the Maersk Alabama and was alarmed by his behavior from the beginning. Phillips, he says, had a bad reputation for at least 12 years prior, known as a sullen and self-righteous captain.

“No one wants to sail with him,” he says.

That’s a bummer if true, but it sure wouldn’t make a very good film.

Also, who knows how what happened affected…

Alamo Drafthouse Bans Madonna

Alamo Drafthouse Bans Madonna
Edward Davis - The Playlist

OK so this is kinda rich and you may have heard this story already, but in case you haven’t, well, the irony is just too delicious to pass up. Last week during the New York Film Festival, Madonna was caught texting during Steve McQueen’s “12 Years A Slave.” A painful, brutal, unflinching film about the horrors of slavery starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and many more. When one audience member called out the Material Girl and asked politely to please stop texting, she had the gall to yell at the person and call them a particular type of 19thcentury tyrant. “It’s for…

‘Gravity’ Continues High Earth Orbit - Box Office Report

‘Gravity’ Continues High Earth Orbit - Box Office Report

It appears that nothing can keep this film down. It had an amazing second weekend. In fact, it was a record setter as the best non-holidy hold ever for a movie that opened over $50 Million. Pretty crazy, right?

#1 — Gravity

Budget: $100 Million
Totals: $43.1 Million, Weekend / $122.3 Million Domestic / $68 Million, Foreign / $190.3 Million, Worldwide
Weekend: 2

This is not a surprise to me, or to anyone really, but Gravity is really hanging on to that audience for it’s second weekend. I predicted this on The MovieByte Podcast episode 64. Quite frankly, this film is well worth a Best…

Harrison Ford and Benedict Cumberbatch - Video (Star Wars)

Harrison Ford and Benedict Cumberbatch - Video (Star Wars)

So, speaking of Star Wars, recently, Harrison Ford and Benedict Cumberbatch were both asked about Star Wars, and of course they both played it coy. There’s litterally no new information here, but I thought it was fantastic and funny and well worth watching. Harrison Ford is playing all this up for all it’s worth and it’s hillarious to watch. Ford won’t even confirm that he’s in the film, but we all know that he is.

I will say that this point I think we will see Benedict Cumberbatch in the film in some capacity.

Two Working Titles for ‘Star Wars VII’

Two Working Titles for ‘Star Wars VII’
Germain Lussier - /Film

If I could have one small sliver of information today about Star Wars Episode VII, it would be the title. Three or four simple words could give fans months of fuel for speculation. It’s not too much to ask, is it? Well considering most of the other Star Wars titles weren’t revealed until much closer to release, we probably shouldn’t hold our breaths.

Still, George Lucas apparently had two such titles in mind when he conceived the film and sold it to Disney, and those have now been revealed. Plus, with the recent news he and J.J. Abrams have been talking a lot about the film, maybe these…

Assange, Cumberbatch, and WikiLeaks, Oh My

Assange, Cumberbatch, and WikiLeaks, Oh My
Hillary Busis - Entertainment Weekly

It’s no secret that WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange, aren’t exactly crazy about Bill Condon’s WikiLeaks film The Fifth Estate. Last month, the anti-secrecy organization leaked a copy of the film’s script alongside a memo that called Condon’s movie “irresponsible, counterproductive and harmful.” WikiLeaks announced the memo with a tweet that briefly and critically appraises the movie — “As WikiLeaks was never consulted about the upcoming Hollywood film on us, we’ve given our advice for free: It’s bad.”

This week, WikiLeaks has thrown more fuel on the fire by posting a letter from…

Zimmer on Scoring ‘Man of Steel 2’
Adam Chitwood - Colider.com

With Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and this summer’s Man of Steel, composer Hans Zimmer has now had the chance to write music for arguably the two most popular comics characters in the world: Batman and Superman.  Now that Zack Snyder has decided to bring a new Batman into the fold for the Man of Steel follow-up, Zimmer is faced with the decision of whether to revisit the Dark Knight or step aside and let someone else tackle the character.

‘House of Cards’ Season 2 Probably the Last

‘House of Cards’ Season 2 Probably the Last
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

Good news for those who think current TV shows stay on far past their welcome, or bad news for those who think “House Of Cards” still has yet to hit its peak, but, according to one person close to the series, the currently in production second season could very well be its last.

The surprising comments came from producer Rick Cleveland, speaking at the Vancouver International Film Festival last week. “ ‘House of Cards’ is only going to go a second season and I think that’s it,” he said. “Kevin Spacey likes to do movies and Robin Wright likes to do movies.” It’s certainly a surprising…
