Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos raised some eyebrows this weekend when he claimed that movie theater owners are the ones threatening to kill the movie business. Their refusal to innovate with day and date releases for big movies in theaters and on digital is stifling the industry.

Is there room for old style action heroes in our modern day world? Is there something more than nostalgia going on here? I was a bit skeptical at first — well to be honest I was of two minds about it really. On the one hand the trailers actually looked good. It seemed as if there might be something more to this film than stupidity and face punching. On the other hand, how could a film with two actors that I loathe in general be any good? So I couldn’t quite decide whether I thought the film would be any good. That being the case, I simply had to go and see it so I could make a determination…

But maybe the biggest difference is that, when communing on the Degobah-like planet (aided by Minch, not Yoda), Luke actually comes in contact with the ghost of his father. And that father isn’t Darth Vader. As Ryan notes, “this pretty much proves that the Vader-Luke, father-son relationship was not Lucas’ plan all along.”

Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) finds himself living every parent’s worst nightmare when his six-year-old daughter goes missing. The only lead? A battered RV that was parked on the street only hours before. Heading the investigation is Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal), who tracks down the RV’s driver (Paul Dano) and takes him into custody. But when lack of evidence compels the suspect’s release, and police fail to turn up any more leads, Dover decides to take things into his own hands.

This one is going to be a good one, guys. This trailer is only a minute, but it’s got me ready to get myself to the theater and watch. Of course I’ll have to wait until November 22. Have a look:

He’s kind of like a kid in a candy store. It must be amazing to get to work on stuff that you’ve been a fan of since you were a little boy. What must that be like? TJ wraps up the week with a look back at the box office report — crazy enough, ‘Gravity’ has been the number one film for 3 weeks in a row. Can it pull off a fourth? We’ll see. Robin Williams is in talks for Night at the Museum 3’. In other news, ‘Night at the Museum 3’ is happening? Cool. Paul Greengrass responded to crew members and critics of his film ‘Captain Phillips’ that it was a white-wash job on the good captain. And a fine response it was. TJ has some theories about why Agent Coulson is still alive and active in Marvel’s TV Show ‘Agents of SHIELD’. Ben Kingsley is set to return to Marvel for an undisclosed project of some kind, presumably revising his role from ‘Iron Man 3’. ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ will begin production in 2014 — because apparently the production company behind it wants to commit suicide… Michael Arndt has departed ‘Star Wars VII’ as writer. TJ hopes this isn’t a bad sign. And of course, find out what’s new and what to see this weekend.
