Iron Man 3 - PG-13
This is a pretty great installment in the Marvel Universe. And I loved that it wasn’t just about the suites and another guy with suites more powerful than Iron Man’s suit, etc. etc. This movie had heart, and it was a story about the characters, not the metal that the characters wear. And there were some surprises to the plot that were unexpect, unlike Iron Man 2, which felt a little bit like a paint by numbers job. Definitely worth seeing this one!…

TJ and Joe are pleased to welcome to the show special guest Dan Benjamin of 5by5! Dan is a prolific broadcaster and maker of fine podcasts, he has opinions on many things, and movies are one of them. They spend just a few minutes talking about podcasts and mixers, mice and the like. Then they kick things off with a quick discussion about Instacast for Mac Public Beta. And on to film news with J.J. Abrams saying John Williams is likely to score ‘Star Wars VII’, as well as Carrie Fisher and Ian McDiarmid talking about the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ film with McDiarmid being pretty sure Palpatine won’t be returning (no, really?). They also spend a few minutes talking about online media consumption versus broadcast TV, some thoughts about J.J. Abrams version of Star Trek, and a minute or two on ‘Pacific Rim’. And of course, the main review for this week is ‘Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan’ which leads to some great discussion. You won’t want to miss it!

New promos, clips, and other cools stuff coming out for Star Trek Into Darkness is getting to be an almost daily occurrence now. I mean really, how much more can they crank out without just releasing the film to bit torrent or something?

I know that the studios have to do everything they can to generate as much interest as they can, but I am a little bit frustrated at this point with the shear amount of footage that has been released. I feel like in order to keep up with the conversation I have to watch everything that comes out (that is officially released anyway), and yet I feel like…

Could this possibly be any good. Actually, it looks like it “could” though I don’t know if I’ll hold my breath or anything. But this sort of things can be fun when done right.

Somehow, I missed the first trailer for this film as this appears to be trailer number 2. Indeed, I haven’t heard much about it before now, but it looks like the film opens on June 28. It’s directed by Roland Emmerich and stars Channing Tatum (which makes me a little suspicious, but then again, Roland Emmerich… well, come to think of it, he has a couple of decent movies but nothing I’m overly fond of. But my point…

Is it June 14 yet? This Man of Steel trailer makes me wish it was because I’m ready. This may be just a TV spot, but it looks like there’s footage here we haven’t seen yet so it’s worth checking out. And of course, this is Christoper Nolan behind the scenes on this one producing, with Zack Snyder directing so this film “should” be good, right?

Well, we’ll see but I’m expecting it to be good anyway.

The potential is here for a good film. The X-Men Universe sort of floundered a little with Bret Ratner’s version of X-Men: The Last Stand (which I pretty much reject as cannon by the way, I guess I’m in denial). The potential is also here for an awful film, and only time will tell us the story.

In the mean time, we can get the excitement fired up for this film by way of this CinemaCon trailer. The Wolverine will release on July 26, 2013 and is helmed by director James Mangold.

Everyone sees things from a different perspective as proved by this mother who recently watched The Matrix with her son, and then retold him the plot.

I think she may have got a few of the details wrong… Moshimo? Super Powers? Beat out the Matrix?

The Paramount marketing machine is churning something new out almost every day at this point. One almost gets the impression that they want this film to be big or something.

In this fourth clip it looks like the Enterprise is headed down and the artificial gravity is going crazy, stuff is flying around, and Kirk and Scotty are in a hurry to get to, what is apparently, engineering.

Speaking at a press conference in Germany for “Star Trek Into Darkness,” J.J. Abrams was inevitably asked a few questions about the ‘Star Wars’ movie he’ll be directing, and while he generally gently deflected the inquiries, he did let slip a little bit of info about who will score the movie. “For ‘Star Wars,’ it’s every early days to know, but I believe that going forward, John Williams will be [scoring] that film,” he said, jokingly adding: “Because, apparently, he was there long before I was.”
