Fact Checking ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’

Fact Checking ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’
Ashley Fetters & Esther Zuckerman — Entertainment Weekly

When it comes to Bible stories, many onscreen projects take these sorts of liberties when adapting their source material. The epic that’s now in theaters, however, contains some especially fascinating deviations—including a few that suggest the Bible and the filmmaker hold vastly different views on the nature and power of God. Below are some of the more notable differences between the Scott production and Christian and Jewish Biblical texts. And for what it’s worth, some of these are just common sense.

Ashley and Esther imply a question as to the Bible’s historical accuracy at the…

Sony Cancels ‘The Interview’ Because of Terror Threats

Sony Cancels ‘The Interview’ Because of Terror Threats
Russ Fischer — /Film

In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release. We respect and understand our partners’ decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers.

Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business. Those who attacked us stole our intellectual property, private emails, and sensitive and proprietary material, and sought to destroy our…

Bratty Version of Anakin

Bratty Version of Anakin

One thing is clear, everyone wanted the movie the trailer for ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ promised us, but that was not what was given. TJ, Joe, and Fizz lament the film that could have been, as well as discuss their varying opinions on how bad or not the film is, what could have gone better, Ridley Scott’s contempt for God and more. They also discuss Colbert interviewing Smaug, the ‘Insurgent’ trailer, Hal Rudnik’s interview with James Gunn about ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, the trailer for Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’, and who might direct the next ‘Star Trek’ film.

John Williams Scores ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ In This Vintage Documentary

John Williams Scores ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ In This Vintage Documentary

Whatever your feelings on John Williams are, I think almost all of us will admit that his work on Star Wars has been the best of his career, and is absolutely magical, as well as vital to the success of the franchise up to this point. Sometimes, I find it hard to spend the time watching these sorts of things, but between the subject being a film that I love, and the composer of that film, and the time period the documentary is set in, I watched from start to finish and could not stop. So I thought I would share it will you all too. It’s a wonderful little documentary and I highly recommend… Read The Rest

Rupert Wyatt Reportedly on Shortlist to Replace Roberto Orci in Directing Next ‘Star Trek’ Film

Rupert Wyatt Reportedly on Shortlist to Replace Roberto Orci in Directing Next ‘Star Trek’ Film
Mike Fleming Jr. — Deadline

Studio is high on and has met with Rupert Wyatt, who helmed Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and the new remake The Gambler with Mark Wahlberg for Paramount. He seems to be atop this list, but he’s got company. Morten Tyldum, director of the Oscar bait film The Imitation Game, is on a list that also features Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa, who has wrapped Child 44 with Tom Hardy; Justin Lin, the Fast & Furious helmer who became available when his Bourne Legacy sequel with Jeremy Renner got pushed back to make way for another Bourne Identity with Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass (Lin could…

Stephen Colbert Interviews Smaug

Stephen Colbert Interviews Smaug

I may not be a big fan of Peter Jackson’s latest (bloated) triology, but this may be the best interview I’ve seen all year. It reminds me in some ways of that Gollum Acceptance Speach video that Weta Digital did. I love it when they do this sort of thing.

There is so much win this video I’m not even sure what parts to call out. Just watch it.

‘Spider-Man’ Still Has Possibility of Coming Back to Marvel

‘Spider-Man’ Still Has Possibility of Coming Back to Marvel
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Let’s face it: when it comes to the cinematic future of Spider-Man, nobody knows what’s going on. And that’s because even Sony isn’t sure what the next move could be following the fan loathed and underperforming “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Just this past week the Sony leaks revealed that the studio briefly discussed trying to work about a deal with Marvel to include the character in “Captain America: The Civil War.” It didn’t pan out, but it appears the talks between the two aren’t over.

Latino Review reports Sony’s parent company still wants to explore the option of working with Marvel.…

‘Insurgent’ Full Trailer

‘Insurgent’ Full Trailer

Critics just hated the first installment in the Divergent series of films. They thought it too formulaic and predictable. I found the film to be okay — yes, occasionally formulaic, but… ahem… diverting.

That said, I think this second film could go either way. In fact I would say this film will either be a good bit better and considerably worse and I’m not sure which yet. The first teaser trailer was not much to go on as it appears to be entirely a dream sequence of Triss’. This trailer gives us a bit more to go on. I have not read the books but I am given to understand that it appears from…

TrekMovie Rounds Up Orci’s Responses to Not Directing ‘Star Trek’
Brian Drew — TrekMovie.com

Ever since news broke last week that Roberto Orci would no longer be directing the nextStar Trek film, there has been a great deal of confusion, speculation, and misinformation regarding Orci’s continuing role as well as the future of the feature film franchise. We don’t profess to have all the facts here, but we’re going to try and provide some clarity, using Orci’s comments here at TrekMovie, and elsewhere on Twitter.
