War On the Horizon in ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ Trailer

War On the Horizon in ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ Trailer

Coming on December 17 of this year, Peter Jackson will prove yet again that a little restraint, a little bit of a limitation, and healthy dose of humility would have gone a long way toward helping The Hobbit trilogy be so much better. There is just no reason this story should ever have been three films. One would have been the perfect length. But the money making machine must have gone on.

I don’t think Peter Jackson has reached Michael Bay standards of excess by any stretch of the imagination, but it does feel like he’s leaving behind the artistry and well crafted filmmaking of The Lord of…

A Most Wanted Man — Review

4 of 5 stars
A Most Wanted Man

If you were looking for a modern spy thriller with lots of bangs and explosions, a lot of high paced action scenes and over the top explosions and bombs going off in all directions, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this film is not the right one for you. There is only one scene in this film which might fall under the heading of action chase scene — and the chase part lasted exactly 5 seconds.

The thing is, this film is almost too slowly paced. Almost. Perhaps this is what actually elevates the film that much higher. There was a knife edge to ride, and this film rides it brilliantly…

Katniss is Here to Fight with Us in New ‘Mocking Jay Part 1’ Teaser Trailer

This is one of the films this year that I have more excitement for. I’d say my levels of excitement are approaching the same amount as my excitement for Days of Future Past in fact. Part of that is because Francis Lawrence’s Catching Fire was so, SO good. And now he’s back to bring us more awesomeness. Part of it is also something to do with the fact that this is literally some of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s last work. I’m susceptible to that sort of emotionalism, no doubt.

But the other part of this equation in my excitement is that I genuinely like the story, and I really like what they’re…

Gareth Edwards Confirmed For ‘Godzilla 2’

Gareth Edwards Confirmed For ‘Godzilla 2’
Edward Davis — The Playlist

Casual moviegoers may not recognize the name Gareth Edwards, but it’s more than likely that this will change in the next couple of years. Not only is he at the helm of one of the upcoming “Star Wars” films, but he’s the director ofLegendary Pictures’ “Godzilla,” a movie that grossed nearly $500 million worldwide and will likely crack that number when all is said and done (the movie is teetering just on the edge of hitting $200 million at home as well).

It was inevitable I suppose but I’m not sure why we need another one. The first one was kind of “meh”, I don’t need a second.

Edward Davis — The Playlist

“It was pretty bumpy for sure and I was really sad about it,” Rudd said of the “Ant-Man” imbroglio, noting that Wright is his friend and he still talks to him almost every day. “That being said, I love where we’re at now and [the movie has] opened up and grown in a new exciting way.

“While it wasn’t terra ferma there for a while, my enthusiasm and passion is certainly there for where we’re at now and what Peyton’s going to do. I’m excited about this new direction,” Rudd added. “So many new aspects have come on to it, but It’s still Edgar and Joe [Cornish’s] story,” Rudd said. “But we’ve…

‘Avengers 2’ Ultron and Broken Cap Shield.
Germain Lussier — Film

Everyone who was in Hall H Saturday night at San Diego Comic Con is still buzzing about the footage they saw from a few upcoming releases. One of those is Avengers: Age of Ultron but, unfortunately, Marvel doesn’t plan on revealing that footage to the public any time soon. You can read about it, or you can check out two huge clues that showed up at the Marvel Booth on the final day of the convention. There’s Captain America’s unbreakable shield, actually broken, and a very early iteration of of Ultron. Check out the Avengers Age of Ultron Props below.

So much for the unbreakable sheild…

Lucy Lawless Joins ‘Agents of SHIELD

Lucy Lawless Joins ‘Agents of SHIELD
Russ Fischer — /Film

How can Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD push back up to the ratings it enjoyed at the outset of the first season? New cast members might not hurt, especially when one is a queen in the world of fandom. And so Lucy Lawless, who rose to fame starring in six seasons of Xena: Warrior Princess and has also appeared in Spartacus, Battlestar Galactica, and Parks and Recreation, is joining Agents of SHIELD in an unknown role.

I don’t remember all that well, but I seem to remember that I thought she was good in Battlestar Galactica. So this is probably a find casting choice. I am certainly looking…

Info On ‘Interstellar’ And Description of New Trailer From Comic Con
Russ Fischer — /Film

We’ve told you about the Comic Con debut of Matthew McConaughey and Christopher Nolan, who took the stage in Hall H today to discuss their upcoming film Interstellar. While seeing Nolan field a few questions was a treat, the two also brought along a new Interstellar trailer.

We don’t have that trailer to embed, as it won’t be shown to the general public for a while yet. But we’ll tell you a bit about what it contains, after the break.

Click through for the full description. This is Nolan we’re talking about so I expect it to be good, if a bit self serious. I have yet to be completely…
