‘Man of Steel’ Kryptonian Tech Featurette

‘Man of Steel’ Kryptonian Tech Featurette

One of the more fascinating elements of Man of Steel was the technology used by the Kryptonians. It is, not surprisingly, unlike anything we use here on earth. Of any problems I may have had with the film, I actually like the look of the Kryptonian tech and the computers quite a bit, it was very imaginative and other-worldly, which is pretty much what you want. And it made at least a certain amount of sense.

It’s too bad there wasn’t a good movie to go along with such a great concept.

‘The Wolverine’ Featurette

‘The Wolverine’ Featurette

If you’re looking forward to The Wolverine, I’ve got a featurette here for you.

Much has been explored about Logan’s immortality, but now it seems they want to experiment a bit with something that’s more relatable to us as an audience: mortality. And of course, who knows to what extent these trailers and now this featurette is misleading us regarding Logan’s apparent inability to heal at some point in the film, but I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I think one of the great struggles for a character like Logan is that there is never any real danger to him. He’s going to…

Hello, Zeke: A Brief Word About the Evolution of the Undead

Hello, Zeke: A Brief Word About the Evolution of the Undead

Following my review of World War Z, a discussion broke out in the comments section regarding the merits (and demerits) of the film’s approach to the zombiepocalypse. One of the most interesting things this discussion yielded was the assertion that WWZ is “barely passable” as a zombie film. Why? Mainly because there is no such thing as a fast-moving zombie. The movie shows us infected humans - crushing armies, leveling cities, chasing Brad Pitt hither and thither – but these feral chompers cannot be designated “zombies”. Real zombies don’t move like that.

To tell the truth, I’d never heard…

‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Season 5 Blu-ray Trailer

‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Season 5 Blu-ray Trailer

I’m telling you, I need to scrape some money together and start buying these Blu-rays. Star Trek: The Next Generation is one of my favorite TV shows ever, and the remastered HD episodes I have seen thus far are incredible.

Season 5 is also a really good season of the show. Season 3 really set the show on the right course after the lackluster seasons 1 and 2, and had some of the show’s best episodes. And it’s not that season 4 was bad, but season 5 really brought us another round of really great episodes just like season 3 did. My favorites from season 5 are:

  • Redemption, Pt 2…

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Soundtrack Review

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Soundtrack Review
John Tenuto - TrekMovie.com

While Star Trek films have had 8 different directors (Wise, Meyer, Nimoy, Shatner, Carson, Frakes, Baird, and Abrams), the composer club is slightly more exclusive with six (Goldsmith, Horner, Rosenman, Eidelman, McCarthy, and Giacchino). It is arguable that amongst all the behind the scenes artists, the composer has the most power to influence the emotional energy of a film, perhaps even more than the director or cinematographer. The music influences what the audience feels, and when it is done right, it enhances the actor’s performances, the director’s vision, and the cinematographer’s…

Germain Lussier - /Film

In the discussion we talked about working around the constructs of the Frank Miller/Chris Claremont Wolverine story, the original movies, his trepidations about the project, how the superhero audience is changing, how Christopher Nolan’s approached influenced him, if he had to hand off to Days of Future Past, developing the bullet train sequence, marketing in the Internet age, meeting Mark Millar, the work of Darren Aronofsky and Christopher McQuarrie and more.

If you’re looking forward to The Wolverine, this interview is packed with insight and information. It’s a great long…

‘Monsters’ Wins Again - Box Office Report for July 1

Two weeks in a row Pixar dominates the box office. Clearly, MU is a big winner here. But Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy seem to be setting fire to the White House, and bringing the heat so to speak. In fact, it seems Zombies are attacking the presidential residence as well.

Let’s dive in.

‘Pacific Rim’ Roundup, Not Tracking Well, Trailer, and 2 Clips

Jason McDonald over at The Playlist mentions:

As recent reports have revealed, tracking has suggested that “Pacific Rim” may succumb to the Adam Sandler sequel “Grown Ups 2,” which opens the same weekend. It’s certainly dire news for fans of kaijus and robots, but Guillermo Del Toro isn’t taking the speculation sitting down.

On DelToroFilms, an official fansite for the acclaimed director, Del Toro took to the forums to try and restore faith to his loyal fans. And despite the rumblings around town that the monster movie might flop or under-perform, the director remains optimistic. “We…

Margot Kidder’s Complaint About ‘Man of Steel’

Margot Kidder’s Complaint About ‘Man of Steel’
Scott Johnson - ComicBook.com

Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the original 1978 Superman: The Movie, has expressed her two cents on the Man Of Steel. It turns out Margot Kidder was a big fan of Man Of Steel. According to WAtoday, Margot Kidder said, “I thought it was wonderful and I thought that young Amy Adams was just terrific.”

However, Margot Kidder did have just one complaint about the movie, but it wasn’t the Superman and Zod scene that others have been debating. Margot Kidder’s complaint was that there wasn’t more of Amy Adam’s Lois Lane in the movie. Kidder said, “”I wanted a lot more of her, I wish…

World War Z Endings

World War Z Endings
Rodrigo Perez - The Playlist

2013’s easily most maligned film is the Brad Pitt’s zombie drama, “World War Z.” Originally due Christmas 2012, the movie was delayed until just this past weekend because the principal creatives involved, including the studio suits, didn’t believe the ending of the movie worked. Eyed as a potential trilogy from the start, as news of the delay arrived, so too did reports of drama spring from the project like a leaky dyke. Seven weeks of reshoots were called forwriters had to craft a new ending, and things got so bad apparently Pitt stopped talking to director Marc Forster (his DP Robert…
