Disney Acquires Full Rights to Future ‘Indiana Jones’ Films

Disney Acquires Full Rights to Future ‘Indiana Jones’ Films
Dominic Patten - Deadline

This news came this past weekend from Dominic Patten over at Deadline.com. Though Disney purchased Lucasfilm last year, giving them the rights to future Star Wars films, the company did not have the marketing or distribution rights to make more Indiana Jones films - that right still belonged to Paramount, who was in charge of the first four films in the franchise.

The new deal gives Disney marketing and distribution rights to future films as well as retaining Lucasfilm’s ownership rights — which basically means they’ve got the whole shebang now. Paramount, on the other hand, isn’t left in…

‘Hobbit 2’ HFR is Being Kept Quiet This Time

‘Hobbit 2’ HFR is Being Kept Quiet This Time
Brent Lang and Lucas Shaw - TheWrap.com

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” arrives in theaters next week with a marketing blitz reserved for billion-dollar franchises, but a key aspect of the fantasy sequel is sneaking through unnoticed.

Director Peter Jackson shot the film at 48 frames per second, double the standard speed, in an attempt to make its 3D crisper and more realistic.  The first “Hobbit” film was shown at the higher frame rate — one of a half dozen different formats viewers could watch it in – and Jackson hailed it as the future of film.

Huh. I wonder why it’s being kept so quiet? Maybe it’s because some…

Paramount Planning ‘Jack Reacher 2’

Paramount Planning ‘Jack Reacher 2’
Cain Rodriguez - The Playlist

Although the Christopher McQuarrie-directed “Jack Reacher” opened to a muted response stateside last Christmas—its opening haul was $15 million with the final domestic tally just over $80 million—international audiences were more kind, with the Lee Child adaptation making $138 million abroad. Naturally, Paramount is looking to get back into business with the anti-hero.

Deadline reports plans are being made to do a “Jack Reacher 2.” Instead of tackling any of the other seventeen novels, Paramount and Skydance Productions are looking at Child’s latest installment, this fall’s “Never Go Back,”…

Joe Cornish Not Directing Next ‘Star Trek’ Film

Joe Cornish Not Directing Next ‘Star Trek’ Film
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

And while just over a month ago, Cornish emerged as Paramount’s top choice to direct “Star Trek 3,”[sic] it looks like he won’t be going into the final frontier.

Among Variety’s recent news that J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joining the tentpole to write alongside franchise mainstay Roberto Orci (though, no sign of Alex Kurtzman) was the little nugget that Cornish is “is no longer involved” with the movie. No reason is given for why the talks may have broken down between the studio and filmmaker, and everything is pressing ahead to try and meet a 2016 release date.

A lot of people…

Brett Ratner to Direct ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’

Brett Ratner to Direct ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’
Jesse David Fox - Vulture

After he failed to develop Beverly Hills Cop as a TV show, last we heard, Eddie Murphy had signed up to star in a fourth BHC movie. According to Deadline, it will be the first project Jerry Bruckheimer will develop under his new deal with Paramount. And it appears that Brett Ratner, who was in talks five years ago to direct, will, in fact, helm the picture, after he wraps Hercules. Hercules, Hercules, Hercules, Hercules, Hercules, seriously hurry up with it, Beverly Hills is currently copless,” Murphy responded.

This sounds like so much fail. So much fail. Someone did tell these guys that…

Bryan Singer Confirmed for ‘Apocalypse’ Plus Story Tie-in Details
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Well, today brings with it a couple more updates starting with Vulture confirming that Bryan Singer will be back in the director’s chair for ‘Apocalypse,’ but perhaps more intriguingly, word has already surfaced on how it links to “X-Men: Days Of Future Past.” Warning: MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD.

The guys over at FirstShowing got their hands on a recent draft of ‘Days Of Future Past,’ and not only does it reveal who will be playing the entity known as En Sabah Nur, but also that the movie will tie directly to ‘Apocalypose’ in the following manner. Again, big spoilers ahead— here’s what…

The Box Office Got a Little Cold

UPDATED:

Guys I’m very sorry. You might have taken notice that I mentioned I was sick. Actually, I cannot remember the last time I was this sick. So I’m blaming my mistake on my delirium. This is actually Frozen’s 3rd week and it’s made $190 Million to date. So my analysis below is way off. I was planning to see Frozen and talk about it with Chad on The MovieByte Podcast tonight, but I am running a high temperature and don’t have a voice. I have no idea if/when I’ll get to see Frozen. Very sorry about my mistake.

The Box Office Got a Little Cold

As most of you will remember (it’s only been a couple weeks), I used to post a weekly feature every Monday called The Box Office Report. The problem for me was that it was starting to feel routine and boring for me so I quit. But I’m going to sort of bring it back. I’m no longer going to feel obligated to post the top 8, but instead I’ll post about what I think is fun, what I care about, and/or what is important. So lets get started:

#1 - Frozen

Everyone is talking about what a great film Frozen is and the fact that it beat out The Hunger Games and Thor: The Dark World, but I think…

The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are hoping to have a film in time for the franchise to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016. Stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are expected to return.

Since Abrams will also not be directing due to him…

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Announced for May 27, 2016

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Announced for May 27, 2016
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

“X-Men: Apocalypse” will hit theaters on May 27, 2016, thus kicking off over two years of rumors, speculation and more even before ‘DOFP’ has hit theaters. Hooray? No word on who will direct, but with Bryan Singer getting in on the announcement action it’s probably safe to say he’ll be at least producing if not more.

I’m just excited that there’s an announcement for a film that is not in 2015! WooHoo!

And too, I’m incredibly excited for any X-Men films that Bryan Singer is involved with. My wife ventured out on Black Friday because there was some stuff she needed and she wanted to get…
