‘After Earth’ Clip - ‘Beacon’ with Will Smith and Jaden Smith

‘After Earth’ Clip - ‘Beacon’ with Will Smith and Jaden Smith

Sci-fi films shall abound this summer, apparently. First we had Oblivion, now Star Trek Into Darkness, then there’s the upcoming Pacific Rim, and Elysium. But that’s okay with me because I usually like a good sci-fi flick. And that’s what After Earth looks like it’s going to be — a good sci-fi flick.

But, it is a Shyamalan film, and while he’s made some good films, he’s also made some bad ones. And in general, his films tend to take themselves way too seriously so who knows whether we’ll like this film or not. At the same time, Will Smith has proved himself when it comes to sci-fi, first…

Clip from “Arrested Development”

Clip from “Arrested Development”

So by now those of you who are big Arrested Development fans are drooling at the possibilities with the 4th season now coming to Netflix on May 26th after the show’s long hiatus. I’m still excited by this new developing model of content distribution, and a world where this on demand content distributor is funding and making shows. It’s really exciting.

So here’s a clip that aired on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Again, I know nothing about the series, so I have to ask the question, is the bald guy Newton from Men in Black II?

Preliminary ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Report

Preliminary ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Report

I’ll be writing my review later, but being the nerd that I am, I wanted to give a quick report on the new Star Trek film that we’ve all been so eagerly anticipating.

I purchased my IMAX 3D tickets a couple months ago as soon as they became available. I got what I consider to be one of the best seats in the house — about 3 rows up from the back in the dead center. I was not thrilled with the idea of seeing this film first in 3D, but at the time I believed that it would be the only way to see the film last night. As it turns out, I was mistaken as the general release was moved up to today…

“Someone really wanted our initials to spell out ‘SHIELD’”

YES! Joss Whedon humor! How I’ve missed that on a regular TV show. I’ll tell you what, I think this is going to be my go to TV show this fall. And man is this right up Joss’ alley. Intruige, mystery, and supernatural circumstances. I sure hope this show does well and has many, MANY seasons!

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D.  He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to…

Conspiracy Theorists Want to Know What S.H.I.E.L.D. Is

Conspiracy Theorists Want to Know What S.H.I.E.L.D. Is
Rising Tide

Who is s.H.I.E.L.D.? What are they hiding? Super-powers are real. Aliens exist. What else is out there? We will uncover the truth. We will not remain silent any longer.

So this is some fun viral marketing for the upcoming TV show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. This site is supposed to be a group of conspiracy theorists who believe they have compelling evidence that S.H.I.E.L.D. is a thing and they will stop at nothing to discover the truth (as you do).

Who knows exactly how — if at all — this plays into the show, but it’s fun none-the-less.

Here are the videos they have posted to…

Dose of ‘Star Trek’ Goodies

Dose of ‘Star Trek’ Goodies

Ready for what is now your near daily dose of Star Trek goodies?

Star Trek Into Darkness premieres domestically this week (is it Wednesday yet?), Wednesday night in IMAX, and Thursday night in theaters everywhere. I’ll be firmly planted in the seat of my nearest IMAX theater Wednesday at 8:00 PM, and if you follow me on Twitter, I’ll probably tweet my first impressions right after the show.

Interview with John Cho (New Sulu)

As far as goodies today, first up is an interview with “new Sulu”, John Cho on StarTrek.com.

John Cho had big shoes to fill on Star Trek (2009), assuming the…

Michael Giacchino Premieres Music for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

Michael Giacchino Premieres Music for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’
Movies on the Radio - WQRX

Giacchino has created a colorful, dramatic score for “...Into Darkness,” and he presents 22 minutes of it on this show. With Host/Producer David Garland, Giacchino discusses specifics about his score for the film, shares his thoughts about Star Trek’s enduring appeal, reveals how a fan’s Tweet inspired him to make a last minute revision to his score, and talks about his future projects and much more.

So I haven’t had time to listen to much of this, but it seems pretty good 5 minutes in. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any podcast feeds on this site or for this show (seriously guys, you…

“Somewhat Irascible and Cantankerous” - ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

“Somewhat Irascible and Cantankerous” - ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

I think “irascible and cantankerous” but “with a heart of gold” easily describes the beloved character of Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy. Of all the things I like or don’t like about J.J.‘s take on ‘Star Trek’, Bones is definitely in like category. Karl Urban seems to almost channel Deforest Kelly in the ways that matter.

This is a brief character profile video on the good doctor, and it even has just a tiny bit of stuff we haven’t yet seen from the film (that I’m aware of).

Joss Whedon Would Like To Clarify

Joss Whedon Would Like To Clarify
Joss Whedon - Whedonesque.com

I was going to let it slide, but I’ve got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I’m not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I’m not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I’m not making Downey money. I’m making A LOT, which is exciting. I’m not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts.

In case anyone was wondering, there you have it — at least according to him, he is not making the same amount of money as Downey. And man, that guy can be…

Kevin Feige Is Delusional

Kevin Feige Is Delusional
Edward Davis - The Playlist

The crux of the negotiations argument is that Robert Downey Jr. is their flagship star, and he’s still comparatively under-compensated (though he was paid $50 million for “The Avengers,” the four films he has appeared in for Marvel have grossed $3.4 billion dollars together). This will be a big sticking point for Marvel who clearly thinks they are probably paying him enough. Anyhow, when asked about the future films starring Tony Stark, Kevin Feige says Marvel can live on without Robert Downey Jr.

“I believe there will be a fourth ‘Iron Man’ and a fifth, sixth and a 10th and a 20th,” he…
