I don’t think I’m even going to bother to see this even if I (mostly) agree with the general political perspective of the films. That’s because these films are missing something big that it takes to make movies work: heart. It’s too politically motivated and that never makes for a great film. I have the same problem with films that have a major liberal agenda. So my point is that I don’t like films that take a poltical theme and make it their main riff. I hesitated to post this for multiple reasons. MovieByte is obviously not your run of the mill, “post every movie news item that comes along” sort of place. It wouldn’t be in the Batman universe if there were no joker, I reckon. He’s the premier villain of the franchise for whatever reason. He’s the iconic one even though there are so many other villains available in the franchise. It’s that unwritten rule that your Batman franhicse installment must somewhere contain The Joker as a villain.

In a “blink and you’ll miss it” scene from this trailer, we get a pretty clear indication that we will in fact see The Joker somewhere in this series. Look for the hints starting around 38 seconds.

I don’t have a lot of hope for this upcoming Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. But It’s not like the previous films were any good either as Honest Trailers is here to remind us. In fact, they were really, really bad. Honestly after watching and laughing at this trailer, I’m quite coninved that the reboot will be much, much better.

If you’ve been following MovieByte and my work for any length of time, you’ll know that I’m a fan of actual film. I’m not crazy about it and I think digital can be just fine. But I also think that actual film is a great thing. This new documentary explores the revival theaters that use real 35mm projection and run older (not first run) films. It seems to be particularly focused on the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles and features some familiar folks such as Kevin Smith, Rian Johnson, Seth Green, Edgar Wright, and more.

You know, it’s funny, I used to make documentaries, but I’m not a big documentary watcher. That said, this looks like one I want to see. When I was growing up, my cousin had an Atari. I don’t remember much about it except that by today’s standards the graphics, the gameplay, everything about it would be considered pretty bad. But by standards back then, they were AMAZING. I remember nothing about this E.T. game and the demise of Atari, but I don know that Atari basically disappeared. I’d like to know more.

Seriously though, Night at the Musuem, and Night at the Museum 2 were a surprising amount of fun. Strangely I liked the second installment almost better than the first. That said, I can see this film not being so great. I’m not sure what the story is yet. Additionally, I don’t see Amy Adams anywhere in this film. Coming on December 17 of this year, Peter Jackson will prove yet again that a little restraint, a little bit of a limitation, and healthy dose of humility would have gone a long way toward helping The Hobbit trilogy be so much better. There is just no reason this story should ever have been three films. One would have been the perfect length. But the money making machine must have gone on.
