Everyone Involved With ‘Galaxy Quest’ Wants a Sequel

Everyone Involved With ‘Galaxy Quest’ Wants a Sequel
Germain Lussier — Film

1999 was an amazing year of movies. One of the best ever. Being John Malkovich, The Matrix, Fight Club, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, American Beauty, the list goes on and on. A film that also belongs on that list, but is rarely mentioned in the same space, is Galaxy Quest. The smart, hilarious send-up of geek culture with a sci-fi twist was a modest hit, grossing $91 million worldwide, but continues to be popular because it struck a cultural chord and was so ahead of its time.

The idea of a Galaxy Quest sequel has been batted around for years. In a recent oral history of the film done by MTV,…

‘Terminator: Genisys’ — What the Actual Heck?

How times have changed: You have to imagine that movie audiences were beyond thrilled when Terminator 2: Judgment Day was announced in the early 1990s… but now, the latest Terminator film news was met mostly with laughter. Then again, it could have to do with the title—Terminator: Genisys.

Schwarzenegger unveiled the film’s official title when he posted the above photo to his Instagram (via Deadline). Now, the working title had already been Terminator: Genesis, but clearly someone in the marketing department decided that that was just too boring for the fifth installment.

Really guys?…

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Extended Cut Coming in 2015
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Even with home video sales continuing on a downward trajectory, Hollywood seems bound and determined to follow the same playbook they have used since the early ‘80s introduction of the VCR. So even though “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” will be available digitally on September 23rd and on Blu-ray on October 14th, Fox has just announced that you’re better off not bothering with either if you want the extra bells and whistles.

Last month, franchise producer Lauren Donner Shuler mentioned that a director’s cut of ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ would be coming later this year. Now, Fox’s EVP of…

Snow White Prequel ‘The Huntsman’ Gets 2016 Release Date

Snow White Prequel ‘The Huntsman’ Gets 2016 Release Date
Jake Perlman — Entertainment Weekly

Universal Pictures announced the release date for The Huntsman, a prequel of sorts to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman with Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron reprising their roles of the Huntsman Eric and evil queen Ravenna. The film, directed by Frank Darabont, will be released on Friday, April 22, 2016 and reveal how the two characters interacted before Snow White ever met a dwarf.

I’m just having a really hard time getting into this idea. I don’t think it works without Snow White. I liked the first film, I don’t see why we have to ruin this.

Woman with middle name ‘Skywalker’ told she infringes copyright

Woman with middle name ‘Skywalker’ told she infringes copyright
Ben Beaumont-Thomas — The Guardian

Her namesake may be able to travel across galaxies in Star Wars, but Laura Matthews from Southend – whose middle name is Skywalker – isn’t even able to get on a budget airline to the Med.

The 29-year-old added the middle name by deed poll in 2008, “for a bit of a laugh”, and recently tried to renew her passport, complete with her new name and the signature L. Skywalker. Her application was refused, with the Home Office telling her it “will not recognise a change to a name which is subject to copyright or trademark”.

Ahh, yes. That good old copyright stuff that I love so much. Do you even…

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Tracking for $65M-Plus Debut
Pamela McClintock — The Hollywood Reporter

The Marvel and Disney tentpole will play in more than 4,080 theaters, the widest August release in history; “It’s much more of a space opera than a superhero movie,” says director James Gunn.

Gunning for one of the top August openings of all time in North America, Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to open to at least $65 million this weekend, a strong start for Marvel Studios’ new franchise.

Some believe director James Gunn‘s Guardians has a shot at approaching, or crossing, $70 million, although no one is placing any bets considering the steep downturn overall at the summer box office.…
