Netflix Full Season Release Strategy

Netflix Full Season Release Strategy
/Film

I understand it, and I get why Netflix thinks this is the way things should be. Netflix has ton of television programing available, and their users binge watch seasons in the matter of days. They have the stats to prove this. Why change whats been working for them? Why not challenge the status quo of releasing an episode a week with an original series?

I’m all about challenging the way things are done… but does it make sense?

A fine question, and as much as it may surprise you to hear it, I don’t think I like the idea of releasing all episodes of a season at once. I think Peter makes…

‘House of Cards’ Now Available

‘House of Cards’ Now Available
Netflix

Bad, for a greater good.

Ruthless and cunning, Congressman Francis Underwood (Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) stop at nothing to conquer everything. This wicked political drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern D.C. Kate Mara (“American Horror Story”) and Corey Stoll (“Midnight in Paris”) costar in the first original series from David Fincher (“The Social Network”) and Beau Willimon (“The Ides of March”).

It appears that Netflix has gone and released 13 episodes instead of releasing them one at a time on a schedule of…

Lex Friedman Tries to Cut the Cord

Lex Friedman Tries to Cut the Cord
MacWorld

When the rep came back on the line, she proposed keeping Boost Plus in place but waiving that fee; and upgrading our channel lineup to include the aforementioned movie channels, along with more kids channels and other stations. All at a monthly rate of $90. The entire rate, she said, would be good for one year.

In other words, my cable company’s proposal was this: Instead of me canceling my cable, they’d give me many more channels and have me spend more than $60 less per month than what I’d been paying. The monthly rate of $90, in fact, meant that at this point in the phone call, it…

Maria Hill a Possibility for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Maria Hill a Possibility for S.H.I.E.L.D.
FilmoFillia.com

In a recent interview with I Am Rogue, the actress discussed the sequel and, more interestingly, the definite possibility for her to appear in Marvel’s TV adaptation of S.H.I.E.L.D.

...

On whether Maria Hill could appear in Joss Whedon-directed S.H.I.E.L.D. small-screen adaptation, Cobie Smulders states,

“The commitments to How I Met Your Mother don’t affect it. And I can’t really say, but there are definite talks about it.”

And:

“Oh yeah! I’m very excited. I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it.”

She was one of the more enjoyable…

SAG Award Winners

SAG Award Winners

The general moviegoing audience pays a great deal of respect to the The Oscars and what it determines deserves adulation for a year’s films. I agree that the Academy is noteworthy, but it’s far from a perfect judgment. In fact, there are no perfect award ceremonies. Moviemakers that judge for The Oscars and others like them reflect a great deal of skewing biases. They are greatly subjective.

But, if you overview the top three (or so) award ceremonies together (the Oscars, SAGA, and the Golden Globes) then you have a better representation of films’ and their makers’ credibility. More…

Fox and NBC order Pilots from Bad Robot (J.J. Abrams)

Fox and NBC order Pilots from Bad Robot (J.J. Abrams)
Variety.com

Another day, another two pilots for J.J. Abrams.

Abrams’ Bad Robot Prods. and Warner Bros. TV picked up pilot orders from NBC and Fox on Friday. NBC greenlit “Believe,” penned by Alfonso Cuaron and Mark Friedman, who exec produce with Abrams and Burk. Project revolves around the relationship between a young girl with a gift and a man sprung from prison who is tasked with protecting her from evil elements.

The Fox order went to an action-packed buddy cop show, set in the near future when all LAPD officers are partnered with human-like androids. It hails from “Fringe” showrunner J.H.…

‘Revolution’ Animated Webisodes

‘Revolution’ Animated Webisodes

This isn’t terribly exciting, but if you were enjoying revolution before you, like me, were rudely interupted by the mid-season break, then this might be a tasty little snack to tide you over for the meal to come on March 25th.

Starting yesterday, NBC is debuting a new animated webisode every week through February 18. These webisodes are basd on letters written by Sgt. Joseph Wheatly (Reed Diamond), the guy who led Miles (Billy Burke) into the oxygen depleted tunnels toward Philly and into a trab set by Gen. Monroe (David Lyons).

Here’s Episode 1.

‘Defiance’ - Upcoming SyFy Show

‘Defiance’ - Upcoming SyFy Show

I’m not sure how I missed this. Maybe because it’s on SyFy and I’ve pretty much given them up as a bad job. I mean actual sci-fi on SyFy? Say it isn’t so, I thought they had given that up. But this appears to be sci-fi on SyFy, and it may even be good. We’ll have to see.

I found this synopsis from GeekZenith.com:

The show is set in the near future where Aliens known as the Votans come to Earth seeking refuge after their home star system is destroyed. Naturally, when they arrive they are not welcomed by Humans with open arms. Instead, they orbit Earth for 6 years whilst negotiating with…

9 Things We Want from Marvel’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’

9 Things We Want from Marvel’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’
SuperHeroHype

Production on Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel Studios’ first live action television series, is set to begin very soon. As of now, only a pilot has been ordered for the show, but it has gotten a head start on production over other pilots commissioned by ABC and executives will likely have a decision about it before any other new pilots, plus Joss Whedon is already working on stories for additional episodes.

Though it’s not a guarantee at this point, I think it’s a safe bet to assume this will be picked up to series and go on to be a pretty huge hit. The idea of doing a weekly series based…

TV Line’s ‘Fringe’ Series Finale Recap

TV Line’s ‘Fringe’ Series Finale Recap
TV Line

Warning: The following contains massive and dynamic spoilers from the Fringe series finale.

For a moment there, as the Fringe series finale barreled toward a close, you thought it might play out another way.

But it didn’t.

Fun read, with thoughts and observations at the end. I voted for option B in the poll at the bottom. I was not completely blown away with the Series Finale, but I did think it was well above average. I’ve seen a lot of seriously stupid series finales, and this wasn’t one of them. Nothing can quite top the series finale for Stargate SGI, but I was satisfied with…
