With J.J. Abrams currently deep into directing Star Wars: Episode VII, Paramount has turned to Roberto Orci, co-writer and producer of Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness, to direct what we still only know as Star Trek 3, set to release in 2016 to coincide with the franchise’s 50th anniversary.

“Godzilla 2: Maybe We’ll See More Godzilla This Time” will be released on June 18, 2018, at which time the film will square off against Untitled Pixar Animation Movie. Gareth Edwards’ take on the classic giant radioactive reptile template stomped its way to gross over $500 million worldwide, which isn’t bad for a monster movie with more Aaron Taylor-Johnson therein than monsters.

I hope it’s better than the first which wasn’t terrible, but in the end turned out to be fairly forgettable.

We all know that the insane idiot is a role Johnny Depp is well suited for. But what about the suave and sophisticated idiot. Well if this trailer is any indication, he’s again, the right fit for the role. I will caution that though the role seems to suite him well, you may not quite want to take your kiddos to see this one as you would, say, a Pirates of the Caribbean film (though, truthfully, I don’t let my kids see those just yet). I don’t think I’m even going to bother to see this even if I (mostly) agree with the general political perspective of the films. That’s because these films are missing something big that it takes to make movies work: heart. It’s too politically motivated and that never makes for a great film. I have the same problem with films that have a major liberal agenda. So my point is that I don’t like films that take a poltical theme and make it their main riff. While the second film was somewhat better in the acting and general production value department, neither were very good. I have no hope that…
